Preregistration • Early June: obtain QCARD “time ticket” • Mid-June: course timetable published • Late June and July: QCARD course selection • After preregistration ends, no changes until September
Add/Drop Deadlines • • • •
Add courses in wks 1 & 2 of each term Can drop courses up to wk 7 Please respect add/drop deadlines ECE Undergrad. Chair cannot endorse late requests that will not be approved by Academic Progress Committee • Need a valid reason (e.g., medical) • Late requests also have a $25.00 fee
Selecting Electives • You have flexibility - but you are also responsible
• Advice for choosing technical electives: - use interest, aptitude, less so "career aims"
- make tech. elective choices in 3rd-year that prepare you for choices in 4th-year
• Comp. studies - you must have a total of 102 units, with min. 72 units in H&SS ("List A" Comp Studies courses)
Lists & Requirements • At least 5 electives must be ‘400’ level • Lists Elec. Eng. List A is mostly ELEC Elec. Eng. List B covers other areas
– ELEC choose minimum 5 electives from List A Comp. Eng. List A is mostly ELEC Comp. Eng. List B & C are CISC/SOFT
– CMPE choose minimum 4 electives from List B & C, but maximum 5 from List C count for degree
Timetabling • Timetabling of all courses is done by University Registrar centrally each year • No guarantee that desired combinations of electives are completely conflict-free • ECE Dept. makes requests to Registrar to help avoid conflicts, but no guarantee • You must therefore have be flexible in 3rd-year and 4th-year to adapt as needed • Also, not all electives offered every year

• You are not limited to ‘300’ level technical courses • If you have prerequisites for a ‘400’ level elective & it fits in your timetable, take it • Could also take Comp Studies • APSC 221 needed for accreditation -- ECE section is now in Fall term
