Welcome Professor Gemma Carey Acting Director, Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University
Professor Paul Sabey Head of Performing Arts, Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University
In February 2018, we welcomed our eighth group of Bachelor of Musical Theatre students to the Queensland Conservatorium as well as our inaugural group of Bachelor of Acting students. Three years later, we are proud to be showcasing them to you today. Our students are given a world-class performing arts education and are ready to make their mark when they graduate. There have been too many highlights over the last three years to list, however we would like to take this opportunity to name a few... An Exact Point in Time; The Drowsy Chaperone; A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Elegies A Song Cycle. Unfortunately, COVID-19 prevented us from completing our 2020 season as planned, but it didn’t stop the training. As staff and students moved online, the Performing Arts department sailed its way through the unchartered waters and produced some amazing outcomes. Through online lessons, workshops, masterclasses, industry meetings, filmed performances and auditions, students grew into ‘industry-ready’ performers. The 35 performers you see before you today are committed and professional in their work ethic. They are extremely passionate about their craft and come to you as individual artists who have the ability to work as both a soloist and in an ensemble. We are proud of every single one of them. Our thanks to the team who have shaped today’s performance and to our many faculty members who have nurtured the students over the past three years. Our gratitude also to the talented students who have entrusted their training to us. We hope that you enjoy the performance and continue to follow the careers of these young artists. We thank you very much for your support and for sharing this occasion with us and look forward to welcoming you to future events.
