WORLD REFERENCE OF SURREALISM With the recent opening of the Museum Leonora Carrington, San Luis PotosĂ becomes a reference of surrealism and a destination for lovers of universal art. This is the first museum dedicated to the British artist, where sculptures, jewelry, graphic work and personal objects of the author are exhibited. In its initial collection, the museum has over 60 original sculptures of small, medium and large format, as well as 60 pieces of graphic work like drawings and sketches, tapestries and 20 jewels designed by Leonora Carrington. The museum has been built in the Centro Estatal de las Artes in a space of 2,500 square meters that has received thousands of visitors in the first three months. In addition to this project, the Leonora Carrington Xilitla Museum is being developed in an area of 814 square meters, an investment of 42 MDP that will be located half a block from the main square of this Magic Town. The International Center of Surrealism Studies will be housed in the same space. Thus, San Luis PotosĂ writes through this artistic legacy a new page in the cultural infrastructure of our country.

Portrait Leonora Carrington Moorhead was born in England on April 6, 1917. She arrived in Mexico full of both personal and historical experiences, for she had to travel a world full of difficulties. Through her work she expressed her curiosity in topics such as Celtic culture, Alchemy, Gnosticism, Kabbalah, Psychology and Buddhism. The magical and fantastic worlds she discovered in Mexico along with the closeness to animals and plants led her to develop an artistic language and a sensitivity that she expressed throughout her work. Salvador Dalí called her “Bride of the wind”, and she represents one of the most brilliant and creative minds in the world.
