I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. - John 14:2,3 LAWRENCE PETOIA was born on January 28, 1942, to the late Lawrence and Alice Petoia in Newark, New Jersey. He was baptized Catholic at an early age and later became a worker for Jehovah. He moved to Augusta, Georgia with his wife in 1985. SFC (Ret) Petoia retired from the United States Army after twenty-four years of dedicated service to his country. Lawrence was a veteran of the Vietnam War, from October 1965 to 1972 where he earned several medals and awards. The Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal (14 Campaigns), Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with palm, 12 Overseas Service Bars, Meritorious Unit Commendation, NCO Professional Development Ribbon 3, Army Commendation Medal – 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal (8th award), Sharpshooter (Rifle), and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He served a total of sixty-seven months in Vietnam aiding with the evacuation and fall of Saigon where he received other commendations for his dedication and bravery. After retiring from the US Army, he went on to work for Georgia Regional Hospital and the Fort Gordon Commissary as a Vendor Rep. He leaves to cherish: his wife, Leomie Petoia of Augusta, Georgia; six children, Elizabeth (Rhett) Simmons, Larry Petoia, Bernadette (Koran) Glover, Tammy (Nelson) Kendrick, Timothy (Melody) Young and Bernard Young; devoted grandson, Christopher Young; two nieces; one nephew; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many.
