‘One School Morning’ By Caolain O Reilly

It was a bright autumnal morning as the bare trees waved their empty branches to the sky. I was sluggishly tramping to
school
after
a
tedious
night
partying
with
my
classmates. The birds were chirping triumphantly in their twig-made nest as their mother caught a big worm. The tall trees branches were violently blowing over and back. The other children were laughing and playing in the school playground. The clamour of the school bus could be heard in the car park. The fumes were toxic.
As I pulled back the cold metal handle of the door, I stood inside this prison for young children. I peeped into the staffroom saw teachers tucking into biscuits and quickly taking a drink of tea before they headed to class.

I went into the brightly painted classroom and laid my heavy bag down on the carpeted floor.
The supervising teacher was a tall lean woman with blonde hair and had just began to take the roll call. Just at that moment the principals laid back voice vibrated out through the speakers on the brightly painted wall. He said can I have Jack Jackson to my office immediately.
I rapidly jumped out of my seat and walked down the hall in curiosity. When I got to his cluttered office he told me to take a seat. I sat down on the black cold leather armchair. He stood beside the window and looked out the cracked panel. He said to me get your schoolbag and books and go outside and get into that black Mercedes outside in a very calm sad voice.

I once again got my heavy bag and lodged the books into it. I walked out of the classroom and down the old corridor. I pulled back the door.
The first thing I saw was the baby blue sky. Then I saw the gleaming Mercedes. I hesitated for a minute thinking should I do this. Should I get into the car? Somehow my legs moved on in fascination. I knocked on the cars tinted window. Down came the tinted window. It was my uncle. I knew by the look on his face he had bad news for me.
