Musical Prelude....................................................................................................................................George Manning, II Announcement........................................................................................................................Pastor Harold Therwanger P: It is the tradition of First Immanuel to close the casket as our focus moves from Good Friday’s imagery of death and sorrow to the Easter Joy of the Resurrection in our worship. The casket is not generally reopened, so at this time we ask that any who would like to view the body of Connie to please come forward and do so. Musical Prelude....................................................................................................................................George Manning, II Invocation..................................................................................................................................Pastor Harold Therwanger P: In the name of the Father, and the Son and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen P: Grace and Peace to you from God our Father and from our Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the source of all mercy and the God of all consolation. He comforts us in all our sorrows so that we can comfort others in their sorrows with the consolation we ourselves have received from God. Placing of the Pall..............................................................................................................................Stephen’s Ministers P: Do you not know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. If we have been united with him in His death, we will certainly also be united with Him in His resurrection. Grant that we also may follow the example of their faithfulness to death and so receive with all the faithful, the crown of eternal life; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Musical Selection................................................................................................................................James Wells, soloist “Precious Lord” Apostles Creed..............................................................................................................................................Congregation (please stand) I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into Heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen Prayer....................................................................................................................................................................................... P:We pray ... Almighty God, you have knit your chosen people together in one communion, in the mystical body of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Give to your whole Church in heaven and on earth your light and your peace. Lord in your mercy... C: Hear our prayer. P: Grant that all who have been baptized into Christ’s death and resurrection may die to sin and rise to newness of life and that through the gate of death and the grave we may pass with him to our joyful resurrection. Lord in your mercy ... C: Hear our prayer. P: Grant to us who are still in our pilgrimage, and who walk as yet by faith, your Holy Spirit that he may lead us in holiness and righteousness all our days. Lord in your mercy ... C: Hear our prayer. P: Grant to your faithful people pardon and peace that we may be cleansed from all our sins and serve you with a quiet mind. Lord in your mercy ... C: Hear our prayer. P: Grant to all who mourn a sure confidence in your loving care that, casting all their sorrow on you, they may know the consolation of your love. Lord in your mercy ... C: Hear our prayer. P: Give courage and faith to the bereaved that they may have strength to meet the days ahead in the assurance of a holy and certain hope, in the communion of your church, and in the joyful expectation of eternal life with those they love who have departed in the faith. Lord in your mercy ... C: Hear our prayer. P: Help us, we pray, in the midst of things we cannot understand, to believe in and find comfort in the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Lord in your mercy ... C: Hear our prayer. P: God of all grace, you sent your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ to bring life and immortality to light. We give you thanks that by his death Jesus destroyed the power of death and by his resurrection opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers. Strengthen us in the confidence that because he lives we shall live also and that neither death nor life nor things present nor things to come will be able to separate us from your love which is in Christ Jesus our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen Lord’s Prayer........................................................................................................................................................................... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. Removal of the Pall.............................................................................................................................Stephen’s Ministers Benediction............................................................................................................................................................................ Connie Louise Woten was born Friday, March 13, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois. She always considered Friday the 13th her good luck day. She was the third of four children born to John and Blanche Burnett. Young Connie was baptized at age 11 at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church by Reverend Hawkins. She attended Joseph Medill Elementary & High School. On August 30, 1947, Connie Louise married Robert Woten Sr. To this union four children were born, 2 daughters, Laurice and Yvonne and twin sons, Robert Jr. and Ronald Sr. When her children were teenagers, she graduated at age 32, in 1963 from the Creiger Vocational Nursing School. Nurse Connie worked as a licensed practical nurse for the City of Chicago for 30 Years at the Municipal Tuberculosis Sanitarium, the Chicago Alcoholic Treatment Center and the Englewood Health Center. She retired in June 1993. Devoted and faithful, Connie followed her sons and husband to First Immanuel Lutheran Church and became a supporting member in 1969. She served joyfully for 50 years in many ways; joining the choir in the 1980’s, working with the youth at Vacation Bible School, serving as a Stephen’s Minister, and a supporting member and past event coordinator of the Senior Club. Connie Lou enjoyed cooking. Her family and church family can each name their favorite dish whether the lip smacking ribs and spaghetti, the horse shoe cake or homemade ice cream, her tomato dumplings, that banana pudding or those fall of the bone tender turkey necks, we all had a favorite. After the cooking was done, Disco Connie enjoyed dancing and singing. She was always ready for a game of cards. Her favorite games were bridge, bid whist and recently Uno with the great grands. She and her sisters always had fun taking trips to the casino. Adventurous Connie enjoyed trips to Wisconsin for Senior Camp, to Las Vegas for an annual girls trip, to Arizona and Mississippi to visit friends, to Aruba & St. Thomas on one of her cruise excursions, and to Europe - later sharing stories about Paris and London. Connie truly lived life to the fullest. On Thursday, October 3, 2019, at 7:10 pm, at age 88, Connie transitioned into eternity, to be with our Lord and Savior. She passed away peacefully with her loving family at her side. The blessing of family was so important in her life. May I Go?
May I go now? Do you think the time is right? May I say goodbye to pain filled days and endless lonely nights? I’ve lived my life and done my best, an example tried to be. So can I take that step beyond and set my spirit free? I didn’t want to go at first, I fought with all my might. But something seems to draw me now to a warm and living light. I want to go, I really do. It’s difficult to stay. But I will try as best I can to live just one more day. To give you time to care for me and share your love and fears. I know you’re sad and afraid, because I see your tears. I’ll not be far, I promise that, and hope you’ll always know that my spirit will be close to you wherever you may go. Thank you so for loving me. You know I love you too, that’s why it’s hard to say goodbye and end this life with you. So hold me now just one more time and let me hear you say, because you care so much for me, you’ll let me go INTERMENT Lincoln Cemetery 12300 S.
