Velma Jean Stanton was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 6, 1953 to the marital union of Mable Stanton (McGee) of Hearne, Texas and Quinton Stanton of Shelby, Mississippi. Velma was the eldest of two children born to this union. Velma was an exceptional student throughout her entire academic career. In elementary school she was an honor student and performed above her academic level. She attended Englewood High School where she was elected to serve as Senior Class Secretary and was a finalist for Miss Englewood. Upon graduation, she attended Pine Manor College in Boston, Massachusetts. She completed her education at Colombia College of Chicago majoring in Communications. Velma was an independent person who desired to achieve excellence in her life. She possessed an outstanding vocabulary and was a gifted imaginative writer. She attended a major modeling school in Chicago and placed runner- up in the final competition. Velma had big dreams and high ideas. She believed in Christ and attended her neighborhood church of worship. She enjoyed attending Bible Study at her church and various gospel concerts. She cherished her church home and the special friends she made. Velma made her transition in the morning hours of Saturday, August 15, 2020. She was preceded in death by her father Quinton Stanton, and her siblings Rowland Kyles (Sonny) and Barbara L. Taylor. To cherish her memory she leaves, a loving mother, Mable Stanton, sister Patricia Stanton-Rimpsey, brother Glenn Powell (Barbara) and nephew Blake Quinton Rimpsey. Along with a host of caring cousins and friends.
