Public (adj.) Public (n.): Infrastructure of Autonomy Fall 2021 | Furniture Design This thesis reframes the role of design in fostering occupant autonomy in public space. Activating natural processes of mobilization, transformation, growth, and decay, this project seeks to create a symbiotic relationship between the natural and built environments of the city.
System Development Modular Tiles are deriven from geometric analysis. It gives autonomy to occupants to pull the handles, to create a path or a tunnel. From the tiles and the action of folding, a system of furniture is developed.
Glass Roof
The axon explains the systems that are implemented. There are scaffolding systems, where flexible tiles can be attached to. There are modular furnitures, which creates space for programs. There are tree pods in different levels with different depth to accomadate different fruit tree’s root length. There are flexible tiles and fixed floor plates.

Tree Taxonomy
Human participates in the life cycle of a fruit tree. The fruit can be pick and used in cafe or sold at farner’s market. The food waste from cafe and used water from restroom can be composted and utilize as nutrition for fruit trees.
Fruit trees absorb solar energy and release oxygen that being captured in the atrium. Same species of fruit trees are in the same pods for them to form their network and communicate underground. Fruit tree are planted according to their root ball, canopy sprea, requirements of sun exposure, temperature, soil pH, soil type, and preference of dry and wetness.

Level 1 On ground level, it is a very open plan. The object of the open plan is to maintain the original purpose of the space, which is allowing people to take short cut in between buildings occupying, flash mob can also happens here. People can also pick up fresh fruits from the farmer’s market which is along the path of short cut. The tree pod and stage are imbeded into the ground. When there’s music event, the backdrop tiles can stand. The dots indicate the scaffolding and vertical circulation located in the purpose of inviting pedestrians who just passing through to go up and to explore. Up 4

Level 2 People can enjoy the performance on second floor. There is also composting area, storage room, and restroom open to public. Part of floor plate are in a slope to create a landscape. Occupants have freedom to pul flexible tiles to create the space they feel most comfortable with. As the tree on the ground floor grow, part of flexible tiles have to pull back to give back space for the tree. At this moment, tree has more autonomy than occupants.

Easy Night Stand Fall 2021 | Furniture Design Inspired by Pierre Jeanneret’s Armless Easy Chair, this project experimented subtle landscape hiding in a furniture piece as well as the mitered butt wood joinery. Hence, in some angles, the piece creates a visual illusion of a thin light slice from heavy hardwood materials.
Improving Light Condition in Southgate Market Atrium Spring 2021 | Environmental Tech/ Sustainability Through analysis of the existing condition of Southgate Market’s atrium, there are plenty of shortcomings that lead to unsatisfied light environment. A new design is needed in order to improve the light condition which directly impacts how people experience the space holistically. The new proposal includes addition of shades, changes materials of elevator wall, general wall, floor, and ceiling into sustainable materials, and changes of artificial light and incorporating daylight sensors, in order for efficient usage of natural and artificial light with elimination of glare. Hence, the design creates a welcoming environment to attract more visitors.
