Site: Chennai Site area: 1200 sqft Client name: John Marcus Type of project: Interior project About the project: The house is 3 bedroom apartment. The client asked for an Indian modern style of interiors. The interiors is designed according to the each member’s personality. The living room and dining room is designed in a way that it’s quite formal but at same time giving a rustic look with the color scheme and furniture style. The dining room has an exposed rock tiles with antique dining table. The kitchen has lighter scheme and with anti-stain walls to withstand the Indian cooking. The master bedroom is has grey-yellow color scheme with white furniture’s. The daughter’s room has turquoise color theme with floor level cot and a sliding door to toilet due to space constraint. The son’s room has bunk bed for the same reason and has white furniture and more lights to make the space bigger. Challenges: To produce a good GFC drawings To stick to the budget and time management To coordinate with the mason, carpenters and the site engineer.

Aim: To research about the characteristics of the morphology and analyze the system on different scales. To apply the system on an architecture scale. To study on organize the data and generate architectural representation. To design and small micro unit and replicate that according to the topography to from the community. Site: Huangshan mountain,China,5900 ft altitude. About the project: The project is to research about the licheniform system and study its characteristics and reflect an architecture project. The lichen is a combination of algae and fungi that grows symbiotically in extreme dry condition. The fungi acts as host while the algae produces energy. The lichens sustain more than a decade. Based on the characteristics of lichen, we selected an extreme living unit with extreme site. The hiker’s unit is a transformable structure that is designed as group of individual units colonized together to form a community in an extreme topography. The hiker’s unit is designed for an extreme altitude in Huangshan Mountain in china. One unit can hold up to 5 people and has protective layers with thermal mass, weather protection which is constructed by series of cable and steel attachments to specific spots of mountain. The structure has simple pre stressed structure that hold the unit to the vertical surface of the mountain. The interior is a series of cables like the hammock.

Site location: Hainan Island, south Sea pearl, china Site area: 290 hectares About the project: This project is based on the speculation of the morphology system research about licheniform. This project was to challenge the traditional organizational systems within city planning and building typologies. The Hainan Island is an artificial island in china. Features: 1. Sustainable architecture: The Island is self-sustainable in energy production, food production and recycling of materials. 2. Intelligent tourism: EducationalCultural-Ecological The Island is an integrated with different typologies of buildings based on the lifestyle behavior, influencing one another in a symbiotic relation thus making the island sustainable. 3. Integrated Ecology: The nature becomes a performer and re-define the physical planning and urban spaces. In some places the landscape itself becomes the amphitheater while on some places it becomes agricultural field, in some it’s a visual element in commercial spaces and in some places roof. It’s the main feature of the island becoming layers of skin. The island has different hierarchy system in functions, alignment and physical forms based on the morphological study along with the island’s site analysis and user groups activity analysis.

Site: Sahara desert Area of the unit: 9 sq.m Extreme condition: Extreme heat, sandstorm, micro living About the project: The spike is a micro living unit for one person in an extreme condition namely sandstorm. It’s an experimental unit is made of three systems that is speculated to protect from extreme heat, incoming sandstorm and the changing landscape of a desert. Concept: The cactus has thorns to prevent from evaporation of water by reducing the surface area of the green stem and decreasing the air pressure. Same way the unit has spikes to reduce the surface area to keep interior cooler and reduce the air pressure in-between the spikes. Central perforated living space: The box is compressed space essential for one person with perforated panels to allow air to come but protects from sand entering. The space has structural framework of 9x9 grid with movable furniture such that it can be arranged according user choice. The perforations are constructed with recycled bottles such that the funnel shaped part is outside and brings in cool air inside acting as air conditioner. Spikes: The spikes are attached to the 9x9 grid are the respirators for the space. They also provide visual access from inside to see the sandstorm. The spikes and arranged and angles in 32 degree so that it protects form incoming sandstorm and sand dune formation. Each spike has its own function apart from the above. One is entrance, sleeping area and table and storage spaces. Fabric system: The fabric system is the exterior part and has layers of fabric to filter the sand. It also acts as shield from the sun for the central structure. The fabric is fiber glass and with solar panels for energy production. It is stretched along the spikes so that it maintains the shape after a sandstorm too.

Project type: construction of kinectic machine Key features:Using robotics, kinectic mechanism and raspberry pie software coding with grasshopper. About the project: The project was to create a kinetic skylights and shades and focus on the phenomenology, environmental and technological qualities. The skylight was designed according to the sun path of the IDEAS UCLA campus and to get maximum sunlight into the studio space and also to control the amount of light coming in the space. Concept: The concept was blooming of flower. The skylight had three big and one small opening and each opening had four petals that opens to the studio. The openings were arranged and angled in 35 degree to maximize the light comin g through. Mechanism: The skylight operates in a simple mechanics. The petals opens with a coupler motor with a lead screw moving up and down through a lead rod. Frame: Aluminum frame Framework: The wooden rings and studs were cut by CNC machine. And assembled and screwed with the frame. Skirt: Fabric was stretched over the framework and stapled with frame and coated with wood glue. Petals: Petals were fabricated with fibre glass coated with resin using gym ball as mold. The petals were connected to the rings with aluminum steel bars. Connecting Parts: The petal were connected with 3D printed parts. Electronic parts: Each flower mechanism is run by one coupler motor and it is connected to an Adriano board with raspberry pie software. The skylight also has LED lights that is syncs with the motion of the skylight.
