‘Paint the Eend’ By Anneke Raven

Two boys, a girl and an old 2CV Citroen covered with paintings made by children; Who are they, where are they going and what is their dream? It is September 2006 when friends and artists Esther, Jeroen and Obed create the idea to travel from the Netherlands all the way to Gambia. By car. Dreams. That is what the journey about for the three artists. On their way to Gambia they will stop over in towns and cities to collect children’s dreams which the children themselves may paint on the ‘Dream 2CV’ Citroen (called ‘Eend’ in Dutch, literally translated: ‘Duck’). But why? ‘Well’, Esther explains, ‘the world is a beautiful place, we –the people- easily forget that as we are reading and seeing so much suffering and other saddening news. We want to explore the art of finding connections, find a way to activate those. We want to find new perspectives, to inspire and to learn. Together.’ Children from the visited countries will get connected through their dreams. To get to know each others’ visions might just create a little bit of unity in this globalizing, fragmentised world. And what better and more beautiful way is there than to use the universal language called creativity? At this moment The Eend has just arrived Morocco. To follow the dream, take a look on www.painttheeend.org.
