Early French science fiction is not all about Jules Verne. There are some more French writers in the 19th century who produced some quite remarkable works. Albert Robida is one of them. Le Vingtième Siècle (The Twentieth Century) was his masterpiece and published in 1882. This Master Thesis from 1992 gives some groundbreaking insight into its origins in the Parisian entertainment culture of vaudeville and caricature and gives a lot of hitherto unknown facts about this masterpiece of early French science fiction.
