John Dustin Buckman Club Central High School

Lastacia Cloyd is 16 years old and has been a member of the John Dustin Buckman Club for four years and attends Central High School. She has a passion for basketball and writing poetry which has led her to participating in spoken word competitions where she turns her verses into lyrics. Lastacia says the Club is helping her become collegeready by the time she graduates from high school as she has been able to participate in college tours where she has learned to start preparing now to ensure she reaches her goals. Lastacia is also an avid volunteer at the Memphis Public Library where she is currently serving her second term as President of the Youth Advisory Council.

Oakhaven Club Ridgeway High School

Martaveon Dockery is a senior at Ridgeway High School where he is a member of the baseball, basketball, and football teams. Martaveon has been a member of the Oakhaven Club for 5 years and is one of the teen leaders where he is President of the Keystone Club overseeing projects such as volunteering at a homeless shelter, reading books to younger children during the summer, and visiting senior living facilities. Martaveon says he has always had a strong sense of himself and known that he can achieve any goals he sets his mind to. He credits the Club for helping him stay focused, improving his grades in school, and becoming an overall great person.

High School

Christyle Garner is 17 years old and attends White Station High School. He is student athlete, maintains a 3.3 G.P.A., as well as displays exceptional leadership skills as the captain of the varsity basketball and cross country team. He is committed to a healthy lifestyle where he maintains a rigorous 5am workout schedule five days a week and has seen his goals by losing 30 pounds thus far. Christyle has been a member of the Ira Samelson Jr. Club for nine years and is an active member in the Keystone Club and enjoys tutoring the younger Club members and volunteering with the elderly. Christyle shares that the Club has provided him with an array of resources that has helped him with his school work, sports, and community involvement providing him with the tools he needs to succeed.
