Mission Statement: The Mission of the Town of Duxbury is to deliver excellent services to the community in the most fiscally responsible and innovative manner while endeavoring to broaden our sense of community and preserve the unique character of our town.

This 8-week program will focus on bringing new obstacles to even the most thrill seeking individual. Soaring down a 90 ft. Indoor Zip-Line, stacking crates up to 20 ft. high, climbing vertically and horizonally on the indoor rock wall and across the ceiling high monkey bars, as well as rappelling and down-climbing a multi-level staircase will give the most daring individual a rush of a life-time. These “no fear” adrenaline-rushing activities will keep the most experienced adventure junkie craving more. Ages 7-15. Lighthouse Fitness, 430 Court St., Plymouth, MA. 2011-2012 WINTER PROGRAMS WINTER BASKETBALL

FEE: $75

This popular program is available to boys and girls grades 3–8, beginning the week of December 12, 2011 thru February 18, 2012. The coach’s meeting will be held on Monday, December 5 at 8 pm.

HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL

FEE: $75

For boys and girls grades 9–12. This program begins the week after Christmas Vacation and be held on Saturdays at DMS.

SMALL BALL

FEE: $125

This program takes place on Sundays at the Duxbury High School gym running January 8th thru February 12th. Kindergarten takes place from 10-10:45am. Grades 1-2 takes place from 11am-12 noon. Small Ball is a fun introduction to the game of basketball. Children will participate in drills that teach them footwork, passing, dribbling and shooting in addition to playing games. Instructor: Billy Curley, Former Duxbury High School state champion, Boston College Hall of Famer, retired NBA veteran, and current assistant coach of the men’s basketball team at Emerson College.

FEBRUARY VACATION ACTING WORKSHOP

FEE: $80

The Recreation Department will once again offer our After School Athletics program for the second semester of the school year beginning the week of January 9 and continue through June 14. This program is offered to boys and girls grades 3–5. These groups meet once a week for one hour of organized activities from 2-3 pm. Grade 3 will meet on Monday; Grade 4 on Tuesday; Grade 5 on Thursday; and Grades 3-5 on Wednesday.

This program is available for children ages 6-15. This workshop will be held February 21-24, 9 am-4 pm at the Duxbury High School auditorium and will be conducted by the South Shore School of Performing Arts in which participants will receive acting instruction and direction during an intense 7-hour-a-day workshop. It will finish with a full-scale production of “Alice in Wonderland”.

ICE SKATING

This is an 7-week introduction to skating classes will be held at The Bog in Kingston and consists of a 40-minute lesson and 10 minute practice. The program is for ages 3 years thru Adult. Please bring fitted and sharpened skates, hockey or bike helmet and gloves to each class. Hat, snow pants, elbow pads and knee pads are recommended. Please arrive at least 10-15 minutes prior to start of class. INDOOR HORSEBACK RIDING

This 4-week program is an introduction to horseback riding in which participants work on balance, strength and coordination on horseback through a series of exercises and drills. Licensed instructors and veteran horses start the rider with basic horseback riding skills. Continued study possible at completion of program. LITTLE ATHLETES This program consists of a 50-minute class where children learn a positive approach to staying active. Activities revolve around building self-confidence, laughing and having fun. Children will learn to run and balance using cones and ladders, play silly games and be introduced to new sports! Program takes place at Athletic Republic, 187 Summer St. (Cranberry Crossing), Kingston. ROCK CLIMBING

This is a 6-week program for boys and girls ages 7-15. Participants will learn the basic fundamentals of indoor rock climbing and be given the knowledge and skill to take it to the next level. Instruction given by certified belayers, with all equipment provided. Classes take place Thursdays 5-6pm at Lighthouse Fitness in 430 Court St., Plymouth, MA. THE 35TH ANNUAL This 4.3 mile road race takes place on the Saturday before Thanksgiving – November 19th at 10 am. Registration begins at 9 am in the DMS Cafeteria. A turkey will be given for all category winners! All Runners will receive a Turkey Trot t-shirt. Fee for this event is $10. (cash or check) Please bring a canned good and/or non-perishable item for the local food bank.

WRESTLING

This 4-week program will be offered for boys in grades K–8 and takes place on Sundays beginning January 8 will meet from 4:30 -5:30 pm. These intro classes consist of core strengthening and stretching as a warm-up, sport wrestling skills and lots of wrestling for strength and endurance. Continuation of classes is possible at completion of the course. *(Uniform required – $30, available at WSF.)

ADULT YOGA

This program will take place on Tuesdays OR Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 pm running January 3-26. The classes will consist of warm-up movements and gentle stretches, hatha yoga postures, breathing techniques and guided relaxation. Continued study possible at completion of the classes.

• Only a parent or guardian may register their child for any Recreation Activity. • Non-Duxbury Residents may register for our programs after residents have the chance to register. Call the Recreation Department for more information. • All children must meet age/grade requirements by the start of the program. • Registrations are done on a first-come-first-served basis. • A non-refundable $10.00 late fee will assessed to all registrations accepted after the two (2) week registration period. • The Recreation Department reserves the right to consolidate, postpone, or cancel a program/trip for any reasonable cause.

• Proper behavior in Recreation Department programs is expected at all times. If improper behavior cannot be corrected after the first occurrence, then parents will be notified that the child will have to be excused from further Recreation Department programs. • The Recreation Department reserves the right to limit the number of participants to any program. • Refund Policy: with approval of the Recreation Director. IMPORTANT INFORMATION & POOL DEFINITIONS • Only parents & legal guardians are allowed to sign up their children for lessons. Friends, family members, etc. are not allowed to sign up the children. • The Pool Dues not makeup classes for missed classes • Parents are allowed on deck to watch the classes. • Please no street shoes on deck. • Parent & child are children 6 months to 3 years (must be with parent). Older siblings are not allowed to join the classes. • No Diapers please. (except for the specially designed “swimmie” diapers) • The Pool will make every attempt to make up lessons that are cancelled due to inclement weather (snowstorms,etc.) and/or holidays. • Please remember to shower before entering the pool. • For any class above Level #1, you must present on of the following: American Red Cross card, a Pass/Fail sheet, or a Swim Test Slip. For more info, call the Pool. • ADULT: For those individuals 18 years or older. • GENERAL SWIM: For people of all ages. Three lap lanes, diving board and the shallow end are open for use. Children 9 years old & younger must be accompanied by an adult who is dressed to swim. (Occasionally, less than 3 lanes are available). Children may use lap lanes during general swim! An Adult is 18 years or older. • RENTALS: The pool may be rented by the hour by both residents and non-residents, members and non-members for birthday parties, scout troups, etc. Please speak to an Aquatics Supervisor for more information. • LOCKER ROOMS: Please bring your towel out on deck with you.
