BA (HONS) FASHION & TEXTILE DESIGN At the University of Portsmouth, we adopt a synthetized approach to Fashion & Textile Design education, that encourages self-awareness and critical thinking, recognises and nurtures individuals strengths, and strives to develop confident, knowledgeable and professional specialists within their chosen field. We have three key principles that resonate: Education, Innovation and Enterprise, blending the Industrial, Commercial, Academic and Cultural spheres in our dynamic and positive learning environments. The course has been running since 2002 and has a total cohort across the 3-4 years (we offer an optional sandwich year) of 100 students currently. We pride ourselves on delivering a high quality combined fashion and textile design course in a forward thinking faculty with fantastic facilities and enviable staff student ratio of 1:18. Our students develop creative and innovative research methods and
a profound respect for traditional skills and craftsmanship, providing their catalyst for authentic and original design. Through creative exchange and collaboration, our students explore these processes alongside innovative use of state of the art digital technologies in design, production and promotion, pushing the boundaries of what fashion and textile design means and how it is communicated. The philosophy ‘PEOPLE-PLANETPROFIT’ is embedded at the heart of our course curriculum, ensuring both the reason and relevance of the work our students produce, but also greatly increasing opportunities for both enterprise and employability in forward thinking industries who are committed to rise to the challenges of a rapidly shifting cultural and commercial landscape.
