The portion of the trail running along Wolf Creek lies in a wetland area and is subject to flooding and wet conditions. A boardwalk would allow access to the area even during wet trail conditions. This boardwalk is constructed with either logs or landscape timbers as footings and dimensioned lumber as planking on top. This design is non-invasive to the sensitive wetland area, and is adapted from a typical boardwalk design used in bogs.

TRAIL BOARDWALK CONCEPT
The portion of the trail near the red dot on the map above indicating the best viewing area that can become hazardous during wet conditions. This portion of the trail is on a slope, and is very click when wet. This area could benefit from steps or stairs that are sensitive to the trail area, as this portion contains a large population of trout lilies. This step concept is constructed with either logs or landscape timbers, and can be as narrow or wide as needed, depending on path width. This design is relatively inexpensive, and can easily be constructed with volunteer labor. The steps can be edged with additional logs or rocks, but this is not necessary.

The current signage at Wolf Creek is temporary, and is only used seasonally. New signage should be installed that is more lasting and able to be used year round. Minimal signage should be installed. Signage should use natural materials in order to blend into the landscape. Signage is recommended at the entrance to the preserve on Wolf Creek Road. This signage should be clear from the road and highly visible to mark entrance to preserve. Signage is also recommended along trail. Trail markers can be attached directly to existing trees to guide visitors along path. Additional signage should be placed near notable vegetation. The kiosk at the trailhead will have a map of the property, but also offers opportunities for informational materials to be picked up by visitors.
