...is definitely not a lot of time to plan a wedding! The whole idea came about so quickly, I barely had time to think about it before I had to start setting dates and booking things. But it has taught me a lot. One big thing is the time frame keeps me from obsessing over the small things, because I don’t have enough time to. It heightened the fact that I can’t do this alone in three months, and I really had to depend on God to work out most of the details. It’s integrated community into my life, because I had to ask for a lot of help from people. Over-all, it’s been a cool process, and I can’t wait for you to be part of it.
But really, where would I be without my amazing friends? Since we are all so far apart for the time before the big day, I wanted you all to feel connected by knowing what each of you mean to me and a little about each other.
We start with the best, Rebecca Price. I’m truly lucky that my dearest friend happens to be my sister. Nothing could separate the bond we have. Through thick and thin, she is probably the weirdest, funniest, smartest and most precious person to me. I couldn’t live without her, and I definitely couldn’t start a new life without her! She’s planning her own wedding now too, is a full time nurse and brilliant knitter.
Leslie! How do I explain our friendship? She was one of the first people I met when I moved to SC. We gradually developed a strong relationship over the years. She has always been someone who called me into better places in life, held me accountable, laughed about nubs, creatively inspired me, and loves all the wonderful cozy things about fall and Christmas. Her move to Amsterdam was sad, but she and Kevin are living their adventure and I couldn’t be more proud. Love you, Les!
Abbi Webb, although a recent friend, she is one of the dearest people to me! She has an old soul and a genuine care for people. She is an amazing photographer, but captures more than pictures with her camera. She captures feelings and moments that would otherwise be overlooked. We met as baristas at Bella Latte, and after just a few shifts I knew she was golden. We enjoyed long hours helping GASTS and sipping lattes over good talks. She is one of those people who listens well, thinks deeply, laughs hard and cherishes the small things. We share a love for vinyl records, thrift stores, and exploring. She’s destined for greatness and I can’t wait to be part of her life. She loves her boyfriend to death, and I think they are the sweetest couple. I’m so thrilled you are part of this day, Abbi!
Mooooorggie. “Tell your friend...she dances very well.” You can’t travel the globe with someone and not have a unique bond with them. It’s not everyone you connect with over building a fake house at training camp and get attacked by Cambodian men on the beach with. Morgan has a gift that not many have, she get’s you laughing and talking about yourself within 10 minutes of meeting her, and you will love her forever. She is the life of any party, first on the dance floor, and everyone wants her attention because she is just, awesome. She feels deeply and loves passionately and makes me laugh more than “veeeta” did, and gosh. I just could go on and on. You all are in for a treat.
Lauren, my beeper boop, my alien head, my coffee buddy, my friend who lives way too far...I will always cherish my year with Lauren, traveling, seeing new things, taking in cultures and talking about weird deep thoughts and God. Just a month after the Race, Lauren led a mission trip to Nicaragua for young girls. She is inspiring and loves asking questions and talking about life. We share an obsession of coffee, and together we began coffee hour, a tradition we will probably all practice together! She has long pretty hair and wears cool clothes and dances like no other...maybe she’ll teach us. *Fingers crossed.* She has an unshakeable passion to know the Lord and His word, and is planning on squad leading this year! Good thing we planned this crazy wedding right before! ; )
Rebecca! This girl. Our moms were best friends first, and kept saying we needed to meet...they were definitely right. Rebecca loves people like no one else I’ve ever known. Sometimes I just crave hanging out with her because she radiates love. She listens, gives advice, spends time with everyone and if you need her in the middle of the night, she is there. Wine nights at the pool, valentine dates, deep talks, gym sessions, sushi, thrifty clothes and decorating...she is mah soul sista. She starts Esthetic School in January, and I know she will help people feel beautiful inside and out. I love you Rebecca!
Mandy. I met her in Cambodia over a year ago...well, kind of:) I was skyping my family while I was in Asia, and she had recently been (basically) adopted by my family and local church. I knew when I returned home we would be friends, and sure enough...she is one of the most amazing women I’ve ever met. She is so honest, truthful, down to earth, and caring. She challenges me to pray more, push fears aside and do things out of my comfort zone. A common night with Mandy and my sister involves sitting on kitchen counters, wine glasses in hand, laughing hysterically, telling story after story, maybe a few tears, and if we’re lucky a cheesy 90’s girl movie. She had the New Year’s Eve wedding idea! She’s a dream, and I’m so glad she came into my life.
Long ago, Roman law required witnesses at a wedding. In order to outsmart evil spirits, who were believed to attend ceremonies to mess up the day, bridesmaids would dress in identical clothing as the bride so that the evil spirits would’t know who was getting married! But now days it’s different...
Instead of making you all wear the same thing, I want you to pick out your own dress! I’m going for a “Great Gatsby”, elegant, shimmery, classy, New Years feel. Look for dresses with sparkle! Bright gold, dark gold, pink-gold, just shoot me a pic when you think you’ve found it!
Be sure your dress: -Is not sleeve-less. (At least 1-3 quarter length.) -Is knee length. -Is paired with any (sparkly!) flats. -Is comfy for DANCING! (ModCloth, Express, Forever21, The mall...)
