Early in the 20th century the Rockefeller family purchased land in Dorado where they built a private vacation compound. The Rockefeller’s later turned the com-

FOCUS FLOORPLAN

13 ELLE DECOR

THE SOLUTION Designing an open and spacious home were the family can entertain guests was no easy task. My design provides for all the needs and wants of the De la Cruz family in this home. The biggest task was moving the more social and public areas of the home to the second floor where these areas can be next to the terrace. Relocating the stair case and opening up the walls around it creates a vertical experience that will intrigue guests as they ascend the stair case to the second floor.

FOCUS DINING ROOM

DELIGHTFUL DINING

24 Karat Blau light fixture from Ingo Maurer.

Delightful dining is the focus of the dining room. The primary objective of this project was being able to have a dining area big enough to sit the De le Cruz family, their extended family, and any friends that happen to be visiting. Spending time with family and friends and sharing meals together is very important to the De la Cruz family. This dining room has been composed of a mix of modern and contemporary furniture and accessories. It has also been done in the white, black, gold, and navy blue color scheme that the De la Cruz family loves. The light fixture above the table brings whole space to together. The light fixture above the table is 24 Karat Blau from Ingo Maurer. Its unique use of gold brings the gold aspect to this area of the house. The art work adds a pop of color to the spaces. This piece was done by a famous Spanish artist Miquel Barcelo. It is a fun piece that the family has added to their art collection. The table has mahogany legs and a marble top, adding a sophisticated and traditional element to the space. The screen in the background adds yet another focal point. It adds a pattern element to the area and draws the eye to the breath taking view offered from the windows. The rug on the floor also adds pattern to the space with the repeated chevron and use of navy and white. It was important to be able to access the bar from the dining area. As you can see the bar has been incorporated into the design. The same marble has been used on the bar top and continued up the wall. Below the bar top is storage for wine bottles. The plates that have been selected to be used for this area are from Christopher Spitzmiller. Everything is this space works together. It offers the solution that the family desires, providing a space that will be used for fun occasions and to make memories. . This space is meant to be used for larger dining gatherings. The openness of the space allows for 12 guest to sit comfortably and enjoy a meal together. The De la Cruz family and their guests will enjoy this space for many years to come The use of modern white pottery can be seen throughout the space.

Navy blue was also a color of inspiration for this space.

FOCUS MASTER BEDROOM

MODERN MASTER

This modern master suite is a luxurious and sophisticated retreat for Carlos and Vera. The master suite is one of the largest spaces in the home. It is composed of the bedroom, a sitting area, the master bathroom, and a large closet with space to fit Carlos and Vera’s needs (including their sizable shoe collection). Inspired by deep blues found in the Russian and Spanish culture this is a space that will be enjoyed by these two. The blues add intrigue and make the space feel comfortable, while providing a restful environment conducive for sleeping. The eight foot tufted headboard is the statement piece; it helps to bring down the 12 foot ceiling while the modern and contemporary art add different colors and patterns throughout the space. This overall space is the perfect space for Carlos and Vera.
