rabians Evolution was founded for the purpose of narrating stories regarding women, men and horses ... because everybody has a story worth telling. However, we have come up with a new idea: why not dedicate an issue to a special story like the one experienced in Hollywood during the Darley and HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Awards? This Los Angeles story follows a three-act structure. The first act took place at the beautiful Dolby Theatre during the award ceremony. American and international protagonists stepped on the amazing stage to receive their awards ... a real array of stars from the world of Purebred Arabians. Nonetheless, we would like to hand over the “Queen scepter” to the twice - awarded Elisabeth Bernard, the always elegant and charming great French trainer. The second act took place at Santa Anita Park, one of the most beautiful and prestigious racetracks in the world due to its marvelous landscape. It hosted nine editions of the Breeders Cup and it is home to the Santa Anita Handicap, one of the Big Races in the States. Since last year, this racetrack surrounded by the San Gabriel Mountains, hosts another very important race for Purebred Arabians: the Grade 1, $100,000 HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Darley Award Stakes. Last year, Paddys Day was clearly the big favourite but on his way he met the outsider
at 40/1, Thess is Awesome, the winner. After 12 months, Scott Powell’s trainee triumphed at the finish line, legitimizing the prizes he and his trainers had won the evening before. In the afternoon, Santa Anita hosted another important event: the second edition of the Festival’s Hat and Dress competition, a brilliant success with nearly 50 entries and the winner was... The final and third act concerns the Celebration Banquet and annual stallion breeding auction at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons. Throughout the evening, HH Sheikh Mansoor Festival has named e new Ambassadress, a very important personality. We have had the great chance to tell you this special story because the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival, through its Executive Director Ms. Lara Sawaya, invited our photographer Michele Ardu who has recently established a close and growing collaboration with our magazine. In just a few months, Michele enjoys widespread appreciation from the community of Purebred Arabians. Well done Michele!

he utmost innovation of this umpteenth success, the 18th out of 27 races for a total of $ 391.766, is the jockey who rode him: Victor Espinoza. This jockey from Mexico is a great champion, he won in 2015 with American Pharoah, 37 years after Affirmed, the Triple Crown and also he won the Kentuky Derby and the Belmont Stakes for three times, not to mention the Dubai World Cup with California Chrome. In spite of these brilliant results, Espinoza had never ridden a Purebred Arabian before!

“ In my 30 - year career I had never ridden an Arabian horse. Today I’ve had the chance to enrich my career with this important statement - Espinoza said - this horse was full of run going into the far turn; we just had to find a way through. It’s an honor to be part of this race”. In addition to top flight Arabian-bred racing the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival and Santa Anita Park collectively donated $150,000 to the Permanently Disabled Jockeys’ Fund (PDJF), up from $100,000 a year ago.

all of Fame jockey Mike Smith and a group of local riders accepted the check on behalf of the PDJF in a Winner’s Circle ceremony. “Santa Anita Park is delighted to once again partner with the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival in making this donation to such a worthy cause,” said Keith Brackpool, Chairman, Santa Anita Park. 14 arabians

On behalf of The Stronach Group and everyone at Santa Anita Park, we would especially like to thank HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE and Minister of Presidential Affairs and Ms. Lara Sawaya, Executive Director of the Festival for supporting jockeys worldwide,” Brackpool added. The afternoon at the racecourse, broadcast live on Yass TV, was wellstocked with other events too. Derek Thompson and Masood Mohammed’s interview to Bob Baffert

was quite interesting. Baffert had just triumphed in Meydan with the invincible Arrogate and declared that the horse will stay in training next year too after running the Pacific Classic and the Breeders Cup Classic. A touch of worldly pleasures was brought at the racecourse by many elegant ladies that flaunted refined and peculiar garments, parading on stage during the elegance contest.
