CASE STUDY
AIM – TO STUDY MODERN BAMBOO ARCHITECTURE IN INDIA.M OBJECTIVES –
1. TO STUDY USE OF BAMBOO IN TODAY’S ARCHITECTURE. 2. TO UNDERSTAND BEST CONTEMPORARY WAY OF DESIGN USING BAMBOO. 3. TO STUDY SUSTAINABILITY USING BAMBOO AS A CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL .
SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
CAN’T CONSTRUCT MORE THAN 2-3 STOREY STRUCTURES AS BAMBOO IS A WEAK MATERIAL BUT CAN USE BAMBOO FIBRES IN THE CONCRETE FOR THE REINFORCEMENT. BAMBOO IS A SUSTAINABLE MATERIAL AND ALSO LOW COST ,SO BAMBOO IS A BETTER OPTION FOR POOR PEOPLE NOWADAYS. BAMBOO STRUCTURES ARE LIGHTWEIGHT SO THEY CAN BE MOVED. BAMBOO IS A LONGLASTING MATERIAL BUT IT DEGRADES AFTER SOME YEARS SO IT IS BETTER TO CONSTRUCT TEMPORARY STRUCTURES IN BAMBOO. BAMBOO IS MORE USED AS AN AESTHETICAL MATERIAL AS IT MAKES THE SURROUNDING BEAUTIFUL BY ITS COLOUR AND TEXTURE.
CONCENTRATED ON ONE ARCHITECT’S[MANASARAM ARCHITECTS] STRUCTURES AS IT DEFINES HOW DIFFERENTLY AN ARCHITECT CAN DESIGN USING SAME MATERIAL
CASE 1 - BAMBOO SYMPHONY, BENGALORE THE TREND TO REPLACE STEEL WITH BAMBOO. BUILDING IS BASED ON FISHERMAN’S NET, THETOTAL LOAD IS DISTRIBUTED ON BAMBOO ELEMENTS.
CASE 2 - CRECHE FOR DAYALBAGH UNIVERSITY, AGRA THE BUILDING CONSIST OF A FOUR PENTAGONAL CLASSROOMS THAT ARE INTERCONNECTED ALONG WITH AN EXTERNAL COVERED HALLWAY. MAIN STRUCTURAL ELEMENT IS BAMBOO.
CASE 3 - BAMBOO HOUSE FOR MR.LUNARDI, ITALY THE BUILDING IS DESIGNED IN SUCH A WAY THAT EVERY COMPONENT COULD BE MANUFACTURED SEPARATELY AND ASSEMBLED AS AWHOLE SITE
1. FORM

CASE 3 THIS IS A PREFABRICATED STRUCTURE. EVERY UNIT IS MANUFACTURED SEPARATELY AND ASSEMBLED AS A WHOLE ON THE SITE WITH THE HELP OF BOLTS AND WOODEN PLATES.
CASE 2 THIS STRUCTURE IS PROBABLY MANUFACTURED BY USING OLD CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES IN BAMBOO JOINTS.
3. MATERIALS CASE 1 ALL THE WASTE WOOD, BAMBOO , STONE BOULDERS, DEBRIS FROM HOUSE CONSTRUCTION AND MUD ARE USED WITH A BAMBOO AS A MAIN CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL.
CASE 2
CASE 3
PREFABRICATED BAMBOO UNITS ARE JOINT WITH A BOLTS AND WOODEN PLATES. GLASS IS USED FOR AN OPENINGS AND WOOD IS USED FOR MAKING FRAMES FOR A SUPPORT LIKE WINDOW,DOOR FRAMES AND ROOF TRUSS. BAMBOO IS A MAIN CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL.
MAIN CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL IS BAMBOO.THATCHED ROOF IS MADE AND THEN IT IS COVERED WITH A MUD TO PROTECT IT. BAMBOO ROOF IS SUPPORTED ON A MUD PLASTERED WALLS. WALLS ARE COMBINATION OF A BAMBOO AND MUD.
