ALUMNI IMPACT REPORT 2018-2020
INTRODUCTION Radical Partners is a social impact accelerator. We invest in leaders, engage locals, grow ventures, and design innovative solutions to collectively make communities stronger. Our Leadership Development team invests in innovative, high-potential leaders of nonprofits and for-profit social ventures through leadership development programming and long-term alumni support. We provide support through personalized and tailored coaching, skills-development, communitybuilding, and resources to retain, develop, and nurture great social impact leaders. Our goal is to increase the sustainability and impact of their organizations. Graduates of our programs join a powerful and growing base of 122 social impact leaders based in South Florida tackling issues from educational equity and climate resilience to income inequality and affordable housing. As alumni, they collaborate and support one another toward building a more equitable future for our region together. This report will walk you through a leader’s journey from program participant to social impact alum, sharing the skills and community-building opportunities offered every step of the way and celebrating the growth they and the impact they experience as a result. The success of our alumni and the support they receive from Radical Partners is presented below through the results and reflections of 91% of our 122 program alumni who completed annual alumni surveys from 2018 through 2020.

THE PROGRAMS
Each of our leadership development programs strives to create space for social impact leaders to invest in their own brilliance and build a community of peers along the way to collectively move the needle on key challenges facing our region.
A flagship Radical Partners program that increases the impact and sustainability of advanced local leaders who are ready to scale their social impact ventures. Through 6 months of rigorous coaching and workshop facilitation, we prepare their organizations to grow sustainably and strategically expand their reach. There is so much good about RP SEB (professional development, sincere encouragement, amazing new friends) but one of the most valuable things was simply having a "reason" to carve out the time to really focus on assessment, strategy, and growth. It's easy to skip over these things when you're used to running non-stop but the time spent on them was incredibly worthwhile. LAUREN RESKIN Sweat Records.
A five-month program that guides cohorts of grassroots, nonprofit leaders through a series of leadership training that invests in the capacity, sustainability, and ultimate impact of their organizations. These leaders work to strengthen the vulnerable communities they serve. Participants in this program are fierce community advocates who are in search of tools to grow and professionalize their local initiatives with the support of expert coaches and access to new resources. Participating in the inaugural Leadership Lab allowed our organization to grow exponentially by having dedicated staff and coaches who actively cared about our development and worked to ensure that we felt support. |SUMMIT
A retreat-style virtual workshop series where organizational leaders bring together members of their board and leadership team to collectively engage in a structured strategic planning process. The Strategic Planning Summit empowers leaders to take strategic planning into their own hands, allowing organizations to gain the skills, tools, and knowledge to create a plan tailored to their current and future needs.
MUSIC ACCESS FELLOWSHIP A $1,000,000, year-long, collective impact fellowship spearheaded by a philanthropist that mobilizes leaders toward a common goal. Fellows worked together to ensure that all youth in Miami have access to the power of music. The Music Access Fellowship was a career-changing experience for me. It allowed me to build a team and formalize a curriculum. Thank you for investing in Haitian Culture and Little Haiti. SANDY DORSAINVIL Little Haiti Cultural Complex, Maximillian Consultants.
Thank you all for that incredible journey that has definitely made us tenfold stronger than when we walked in. We continue to use the strategy framework that you taught us every day. Thanks to this summit, we are approaching our growth, our vision and our goals in a much more professional and strategic manner rather than on a wing and a prayer! VIRGINIA AKAR Girls, Inc.
A workshop series that invites highly engaged locals to implement their innovative solutions to local issues such as climate resilience and sustainability. The program serves as the action step that follows the 100 Great Ideas Campaign--online conversations where, in partnership with our committee of local topic experts, thousands of locals are invited to share their opinions about the best way to solve a pressing community issue.

ALUMNI IMPACT REPORT 2018-2020
TEAM Building the right team with robust tools for hiring, onboarding, and team culture setting. Shifting from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset to help teams meet clear performance expectations. EVALUATING YOUR IMPACT Identifying key outputs and outcomes and exploring strategies to collect and track data needed to assess an organization’s impact. PITCH AND PUBLIC SPEAKING Communicating an organization's mission and vision in a compelling way. Honing personal introductions to strengthen storytelling techniques that help increase buy-in from different audiences.
TIME MANAGEMENT Taking back control of a leader’s greatest asset: their time. Crafting a dream calendar that aligns powerfully to the things that matter most. Unearthing the factors that sabotage calendars, and learning how to maximize every meeting, and every hour to pursue goals. STRATEGIC PLANNING Aligning the organization around a strategic roadmap over the next 1, 5, to 5 years. Articulating core priorities, honing in on key programs, and aligning resources and time to the things that matter most. PAGE 08
Of all of the tools and techniques we share with participants of our Leadership Development programs, alumni shared that they continue to use these 5 most frequently:
TIME MANAGEMENT: Prioritizing and weighting a calendar allows leaders to maximize the time spent with staff and external partners and most importantly, encourages a sustainable work-life balance.
POWER PUNCH: A quick phrase that captures the mission of the organization used to spark curiosity around the impact of the work and encourages donors and constituents to learn more about the leader and the organization.
MAKING AN ASK: Building a strategy and diversifying the delivery of an ask gives leaders more confidence to land larger gifts and close on major partnerships.
PERSONAL INTRODUCTION: Gracious personal introduction techniques that focus on the audience allow leaders to lean in on their authenticity and increase their trust and likability to build meaningful relationships
TOOLS FOR GROWING TEAMS: Templates for job descriptions, interview guides, and onboarding guides are used to effectively hire and retain staff, while our best practices for managing difficult conversations and centering diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging help empower, nurture, and grow teams.

ONGOING SUPPORT A main pillar of our work at Radical Partners is ensuring that the leaders affecting positive change in our city are continuing to do so sustainably after graduation and have access to tailored support and new strategies for growth. While small group workshops and tailored coaching have always been key aspects of our alumni support, the delivery of that support shifted into the virtual realm in 2020 due to the impact of Covid19. We conducted an Alumni Needs Assessment with leaders in our network and through these conversations, we identified their levels of need as well as specific areas where they needed the most support. We developed a robust list of offerings that would help them tackle these challenges and connected them directly with expert coaches and with each other in small group sessions. We proceeded to quickly centralize all of these resources into a password-protected website where leaders can book virtual coaching sessions with the RP team and external coaches, find online resources, and sign up for upcoming virtual peer-to-peer sessions and workshops.

INDIVIDUAL COACHING Through virtual, one-on-one sessions, both external coaches and members of the RP team were better equipped to unpack the leaders’ specific challenges and help them to walk away with personalized next steps. COACHING WITH THE RADICAL PARTNERS TEAM: We leverage our unique strengths in executive coaching to help our alums navigate new challenges. We are also a resource for connections to other coaches, stakeholders, and fellow alums. Offering one-on-one coaching from our team allows us to maintain close relationships with social impact leaders and continue to adapt our support to meet their critical needs.

COACHING WITH TOPIC EXPERTS: We have cultivated relationships with local social impact coaches through our previous leadership development programs and are often referred to experts who generously provide the targeted expertise our network of leaders need. Of this network, we have been able to recruit 23 coaches to offer their expertise on a variety of topics including fundraising and grant writing, relationship management, branding, vision and mission alignment, marketing and strategic communications, team management, impact evaluation, and many more. In addition to seeking help with a specific issue, leaders also reached out to coaches to simply reflect on their current situation and to relieve stress.

SMALL GROUP SESSIONS SKILLS DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS We’ve found through our most recent Alumni Needs Assessment that alums are seeking to increase their visibility, take on organizational planning, invest in connections and collaborations, leverage fundraising support, and tackle tech concerns for their newly remote teams. We rallied a few of our all-star coaches to host small group sessions to address these topics questions in a series of small group gatherings. These sessions not only allowed alums to access topic experts, but also allowed them to learn from one another’s experiences. QUARTERLY VISION AND GOAL SETTING WORKSHOPS: This workshop, hosted by our very own Alia Mahmoud, is held every quarter to hold alums accountable for the priorities and goals they set for themselves. Participants are able to reflect on the success of their last quarter and realign their priorities for the coming months, setting clear goals to measure success for the full year. The eight workshops we hosted over the course of these two years empowered participants to make decisions to keep their organization’s momentum despite the uncertainties they were experiencing.

Andriana Oliva of The AOInsight Group led an engaging session to demystify social media strategy, sharing specific advice for leveling up marketing tactics, and brainstorming workflows that could work best for the leaders and their organizations. This became extremely valuable while leaders had to radically shift and rely solely on digital marketing strategies during the pandemic.

Each session was loosely designed around a key topic which the facilitator addressed and shared best practices. Participants were encouraged to fill out a short questionnaire before each session to allow the facilitator to tailor the workshop around their critical needs. COMMUNITY-BUILDING EVENTS ROUNDTABLES We believe that social impact leaders are the experts in their field because they are so passionate about the issues they’re tackling and work on them day in and day out. We leverage their knowledge and experience through our Roundtable Discussions, where our alums lead conversations around specific topics that are relevant to them and their fellow alums. We convene them to meaningfully share their challenges, gather learnings, and celebrate each others’ wins. Our roundtables have covered topics such as the issue such as: Scaling Your Venture Navigating Nonprofit vs. Social Enterprise How to Cultivate a Following Leading Employees Remotely - Best Practices for HR in a Time of Crisis Serving Children and Youth We aim to keep attendance at these Roundtables limited to ensure that conversation is meaningful and that alums are comfortable sharing vulnerable stories. HAPPY HOURS We learned through our annual Alumni Surveys in 2018 and 2019 that members are thirsty to take part in social gatherings to cultivate stronger relationships within the network. We’re all about building friendships and collaborating, so while our options for hosting in-person events became restricted, we created an additional regular human touchpoint for leaders to simply connect, share, and unwind in a laidback format online.
12 Shortly after the start of the safer-at-home order, I attended one of the happy hours. It was extremely therapeutic to have an hour of honest, open com-passion with people who are having similar experiences; feeling somewhat powerless in the face of the virus, yet doing so much great work in South Florida.

COMMUNITY-BUILDING EVENTS continued ALUMNI CONVERSATIONS AROUND RACISM AND INEQUALITY At Radical Partners, we've made the commitment to help build a more just, equitable, and anti-racist society by having honest conversations about racism and inequality in our networks. During these gatherings, we split into affinity groups according to race in order to facilitate frank, vulnerable, and safe yet courageous conversations, to support each other on our journeys towards racial equity and justice.

I was able to attend one of the group sessions on racism and inequality. Having a safe space to listen and talk with others on these issues during the current climate was very meaningful for me. I then had an application to join an anti-racism task force at my kids' school and Nicky [on the Radical Partners team] agreed to review it for me. Having her direct support and encouragement gave me the confidence I needed to succeed. OLGA GRANDA Performing Arts Consultant.

For some leaders, implementing sustainable work practices and continuing to work with the same organization is an indicator of growth, while for others, growth is measured by scaling their team, operational budget or organization to new locations. CONNECTIONS & COLLABORATION
75%
75% of alumni have collaborated with one or more alumni since graduating into our social impact network
The secret sauce to fostering collaborations is connecting leaders meaningfully. We track the growth of the organizations in our social impact network and proactively make introductions within the network and to external partners so that leaders can leverage these relationships to increase their impact.
STORIES OF COLLABORATION CREATING LASTING EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES I met Chad Bernstein, CEO of Guitars Over Guns (GOGO), at the first leadership cohort Radical Partners held. I learned about the work he did and I offered my conference room for him to use to train his mentors. During that time our original inspiration for starting Educate Tomorrow, Antonio Monty Shelton, was a struggling professional musician who wanted to share his gift with other young people who had come from foster care. We connected the dots between Antonio and GOGO and figured out how to joint fund Antonio to become a GOGO mentor and to operate a music studio out of the Educate Tomorrow office in order to engage our youth through GOGO's platform. 4 years later, Antonio became a fulltime GOGO employee on November 1st, 2019. Antonio was recognized as mentor of the year by GOGO at their annual event in November." BRETT MCNAUGHT Educate Tomorrow.
FOUR LEADERS COLLABORATE TO SERVE THE HOUSELESS COMMUNITY “We collaborated with Jeanne Albaugh of Showering Love on a day of service for the homeless community in May. We gathered feminine hygiene products from Ashley of The Beauty Initiative, Inc. and partnered with Enriched Foods Miami to give care kits, a warm meal, a hot shower, a change of clean clothes, haircuts, and harm reduction resources from the IDEA Exchange where we hosted the event. Alecia from Positive People Network came and brought volunteers, and we served over 150 people experiencing homelessness, also providing a community service opportunity for our TransConnect peer support group members. It was a great day of serving our community!” ASHLEY MAYFAIRE TransSOCIAL, Inc.
5 LEADERS JOIN FORCES TO SUPPORT FOSTER YOUTH Five of us came together to benefit over 40 foster youth this summer during our “Camp Independence” summer camp. The mission of the camp is to teach foster youth skills to prepare them to age out of the system successfully. Since this year’s camp was virtual, it was a great opportunity to expose them to activities the normally wouldn’t have the opportunity to participate in. Brandon Okpalobi of Dibia Dream offered coding sessions to show youth web development, video games, and online animation techniques. Anike Sakariyawo joined in to teach STEM workshops through her organization S.E.E.K. Foundation, where our youth were empowered to make their own deodorant, body scrubs, lotions, and candles. Separately, Darius Daughtry of Art Prevails led a poetry class, focusing on a different theme each week, sparking creativity through rhyme and self expression. Lastly, Cristina Rodriguez of Mind&Melody hosted music classes, teaching our youth to source musical instruments from household items.” FRITZIE SAINTOIRY Genesis Hopeful Haven.

SO MANY REASONS TO CELEBRATE The work of social change is challenging and burnout among social impact leaders is high. For that reason, we take it upon ourselves to celebrate ALL of the wins, no matter how big or small. We take every opportunity to gather the network, whether in person or virtually, to love on them not only for the success they achieve but also every step that got them there. While these celebrations were previously more intimate in-person gatherings the global pandemic has brought us to celebrate virtually to preserve the safety of everyone. HOLIDAY FESTIVUS We can’t celebrate the closing of a year without our alums. We wrapped up 2018 with Festivus Maximus: A Very Miami Social Impact Holiday Celebration hosted by an alum of Social Entrepreneurship Bootcamp, Della Heiman, at The Wynwood Yard. We called upon our partners and social impact organizations across the region to celebrate the wins in the ecosystem together. Over 400 people attended and took part in numerous interactive activities and entertainment throughout the night.
One of the highlights of the night was the gift exchange. We paired graduates with members of our alumni network to facilitate meaningful gift-giving and encourage them to get to know each other on a deeper level. We watched some amazing connections being built in our network and beyond.

KEY LEARNINGS & NEXT STEPS Even in “normal” times, It is challenging to get in touch and stay in touch with a growing network of 122 leaders who are busy serving their communities. This became even more difficult with the onset of Covid 19. In our “new normal”, our goal was to continue to foster collaboration, connection and learning. In 2020, we leveraged multiple communication tools to connect with our entire alumni base, including our Facebook groups, weekly e-newsletters, as well as tailored personal emails, and scheduled check-in calls. Feedback is incredibly important to us. In asking our alums who were not able to leverage our support in 2020, we gained the following responses regarding what posed obstacles for them. The increased support of our alums is something we strive to maintain and dedicate our team's capacity towards. From addressing important issues such as educational equity and environmental resilience to equitable development, racial diversity, and social justice, these leaders are having an impact. The incredible power of a network of over 120 leaders not only drives change within their respective sectors but also drives systemic change through their collective efforts and advocacy. We are committed to supporting the social impact network to continue to evolve with these leaders, giving them the tailored support and tools they need as they continue to grow and meet new challenges with courage and determination. Together we have the power to make a difference.
