Mrs. Sharma lebt am Rand von Allahabad. Nach dem Tod ihres Mannes wird von ihr erwartet, dass sie die Rolle der respektablen Witwe erfüllt und ihren Sohn und seine Familie unterstützt. Mrs. Sharma hat aber andere Pläne.

Zum ersten Mal in ihrem Leben gönnt sie sich eine Kosmetikbehandlung; sie genießt ein Eis, geht ins Kino, erlernt Stickerei und gewinnt neue Freunde. Sie eröffnet ein eigenes Bankkonto und bewahrt so ihre finanzielle Unabhängigkeit – sehr zum Ärger ihres Sohnes, der als freiberuflicher Radioreporter auf finanzielle Sicherheit hofft. Die Familie setzt Mrs. Sharma massiv unter Druck. Doch ruhig und unbeirrt geht Mrs. Sharma ihren Weg.

Mrs. Sharma lives in the outskirts of Allahabad. After the death of her husband, she is expected to fill the role of a respectable old woman and to provide financial support for her son and his family. But Mrs. Sharma has other plans.

For the first time in her life, she has a cosmetic treatment; she enjoys an ice cream in a shopping mall, goes to the movies, learns embroidery and makes new friends. She opens her own bank account to preserve her financial independence - much to the annoyance of her son, a struggling freelance radio reporter. The family puts Mrs. Sharma under massive pressure, even considering exorcism. But quietly and steadily she goes on to improve her life.
