CHARITIES REPORT CHRISTMAS 2020
CHARITIES REPORT CHRISTMAS 2020
The last eight months have been exceptionally difficult for many charities given the cancellation of major fund-raising events, charity shop closures, a decline in donations and with many volunteers restricted from helping, all as a consequence of the Covid pandemic. This has put many charities under huge financial pressures. Given this, a number of Radley departments, Socials, and individual boys and staff have been undertaking many and various challenges as well as volunteering and raising awareness to help others where they can. From selling hair (Little Princess Trust), growing moustaches (Movember), long distance bike rides (Hugo Rutland Memorial Fund and the Down’s Syndrome Support Group), prize draws (Luke’s Fund and Ronald McDonald House Charities), The Poppy Appeal (Royal British Legion), Christmas Jumper Day (Shelter) to supporting foodbanks, huge efforts have already been made by the Radley community to help others.
As the Michaelmas Term drew to a close, there were a number of further school-wide activities specifically raising funds for a fantastic local charity, The Footsteps Foundation, with which Radley has had close ties in the past. The Footsteps Foundation enables children with cerebral palsy and other neurological disorders to access an amazing therapy programme. Almost all Socials were involved over the last two weekends, along with the Music Department and Chapel (with other Socials and departments planning activities into next term), in a variety of events ranging from socially distanced hymn singing to twenty-four hours of athletic pain. There were also music concerts, organised by the boys, carol services, and sponsored ‘acts of kindness’. A magnificent sum of over ÂŁ24,000 has been raised so far. Congratulations and thank you to all the staff, students and parents who have continued to fundraise, support, volunteer and offer help to such deserving causes.

“On behalf of all the children at The Footsteps Foundation, we want to thank the entire Radley community for all the incredible fundraising they are doing to support our charity. The funds raised will help to ensure we can provide bespoke, intensive physiotherapy for disabled children in 2021, despite the difficult economic environment. Maggie Davies, Foundation Manager The Footsteps Foundation
