Commercial Handbook and Website A definitive Commercial Handbook containing information about all products within the Commercial Series is now available, to support the Handbook we have a website containing all Architectural details (in the most common file formats) from the entire Commercial Series. Both the Handbook and all Architectural details are available at www.commercialwindows.co.nz

Foreword, by David Van Kampen Following three years international benchmarking, discussion with major specifiers in New Zealand and then product development, we are excited to announce the launch of our new Commercial joinery. Aluminium Systems new Commercial Series is available from most of our Fairview and Elite Window & Door manufacturers located throughout New Zealand. This new suite complements our Architectural Series providing product from schools through to Commercial offices. In addition, we have boosted human resources in our Technical Department to be able to provide specifiers answers to performance queries, technical assistance and shop details. Our Architectural Advisor is also able to assist design offices from Taupo northward and we have three Regional Managers in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch who are able to help with queries. The launch of the Commercial Series in conjunction with Multi-Point Locking Windows and Vault Doors, heralds a new design initiative for Aluminium Systems, and we look forward to assisting you with any future projects.

KarelCAD Revit Software Our new Commercial Series has been included as the primary Aluminium Window and Door solution in the KarelCAD Revit Library, a resource that utilises building information modelling (BIM) 3D technology, resulting in faster, more accurate architectural plans and specifications. The KarelCAD Revit resource library with all Commercial details readily available, can be located at www.designcontent.com.au

Interpon D1010 Premium powder coatings are warranted on the building not to check or crack for a minimum period of 10 years from the date of application when applied and tested in accordance with AS3715-2002.

Future Proof Building

Introduction to the Series A Series that gives you more...

The Commercial Series offers the ultimate blend of choice, performance and the latest in security together with design flair to enhance the quality of any building. With 40 standard powder coated colours to choose from, Windows and Doors that have surpassed extreme levels of testing and security feature options that quadruple the locking strength of standard window locks, this Series really does offer the ultimate in versatility.

Glazing options

Faรงades can be front, centre and rear glazed depending on the look of the building required. Our Commercial Series is unique to the market as we can offer versatility in the positioning of glass, allowing multiple glazing combination positioning on the same elevation, that can create unique street frontages. The Commercial Series is also designed to accommodate both single and double glazing.

Features and Benefits

Our expansive range of Commercial Windows and Doors utilise Italian designed high performance EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) rubber to seal every joint where air and water leakage could occur. These seals have been tested for water penetration resistance at wind speeds of approximately 145km/h, triple the performance of normal seals. The Commercial Series faรงades have been tested at very high pressures, in some cases simulating wind speeds in excess of 270km/h, to test ultimate structural strength. This range of suites is versatile enough to be increased by adding 3mm galvanised structural inserts into sections, to apply extra strength, where needed. This is an ideal option when the look and feel of a faรงade is to be slender while a high level of strength is required. End dams have been specifically designed for this range of products, they use 90% less sealant (silicone) than other systems available, increasing speed of fabrication and reducing cost of installation. These specialist end dams, available for both single and double glazing, form junctions that have significant increased water resistance compared with other similar solutions.

Structurally glazed mullion

(This illustration shows double glazed version)

Mullion/Transom Junction The transom end dams fill the void in the glazing channel of the mullion where every transom and mullion junction occurs. Without end dams water is allowed to run down the mullion and potentially track back into the building at these transom mullion junctions. Historically, the method of sealing these junctions is to use a block and a lot of sealant. With these market leading and specifically designed end dams, fabrication is now more efficient and the finished result an even greater performance.

SPLIT FINNED MULLION AND BOXED BACK SPLIT MULLION

Historically, mullions (the vertical structural member of a window) have had a heavy fin extruded on the exterior of the section to provide strength for wind loadings. This is the most economic method for providing varying degrees of structural performance on load bearing members. Aluminium Systems have produced a Split Fin mullion to allow the glazing of long strips of windows in a unitised fashion. This type of fabrication allows for increased factory glazing, which can result in a more efficient and cost effective installation.

However, if the desired appearance of the building is to have a clean exterior look, then the required strength of the vertical member has to be supplied another way. This is where a Box backed split mullion can be used. Generally, the depth to which the shape can protrude internally is limited. So, to achieve the rigidity, the internal protrusion is increased in width. Box backed mullions are generally more aesthetically pleasing, but are slightly more expensive than Split Fin mullions.
