Inspired by the classics. Handmade for today.
RAEN is handmade and independent– driven by the horizons we seek. Designed in California we are undeniably influenced by the salt in the air and the lives we lead. Our search for an authentic and yet modern classic style keeps us evolving and inventive. We are passionate about every step of our process and are committed to making eyewear that makes you proud to wear.
Acetate
Frame
All RAEN eyewear is produced from the highest grade cellulose acetate, a high quality plastic originating from the renewable resources of wood pulp and natural cotton fibers. Acetate retains its color brightness impeccably over time because its hue is embedded in the material rather than sprayed on, which also prevents any color peeling. It contains unique aging stabilizers that prevent fading, yellowing or other discoloration from UV light or skin contact. Acetate is also hypoallergenic, making it safe for those with sensitive skin.
Every pair of RAEN frames are handmade. Opticians always prefer to work with handmade acetate frames because they can be heated and molded to achieve the optimum fit. They also offer the wearer more flexibility and comfort. Each front shape is cut from a single flat sheet of acetate, following the precise design set forward from our California design studio.
Temples
Wire Core & Hinges
These temples can be balanced and adjusted for the ideal fit to any face shape. Each temple is constructed with strong, long-lasting hardware to prevent bending and warping, keeping your ideal fit, ideal.
Each temple has a wire core embedded in it. This piece of hardware is what holds the temple shape, and keeps your favorite pair of shades fitting your subtle nuances for a long time to come. Because the hinge is mounted to this wire core it gives the frame strength throughout its entire construction.
Screws & Hardware The variety of hinges we use are each specially selected to suit the styling and needs of each frame. We use three, five, and seven barrel hinges for their strength, and rivet hinges for their classic styling.
CR-39 Lens All RAEN Optics are outfitted with CR-39 or CR-39 Polarized lenses manufactured by Carl Zeiss Vision. CR-39 is a material highly resistant to abrasions making it a preferred choice for sunglass lenses, and the perfect complement to handmade acetate frames. It can sustain continuous use in temperatures up to 212°F and is resistant to gamma radiation, material fatigue, and aging. All RAEN sun lenses provide 100% UVA and UVB protection for optimum visual comfort and superior eye protection.
Smoke An excellent all-purpose lens that is ideal for bright sunlight because it offers neutral color perception. Smoke lens tones offer 100% UVA and UVB protection with a Filter Category rating of 2.
Green Ideal for medium to bright light. A neutral lens tint for a color accurate view and a cooling sense. Excellent in hot, sunny conditions. Offers 100% UVA and UVB protection, and has a Filter Category rating of 3.
Mirror TRI-FLECTION™ mirror lenses manufactured by Carl Zeiss Vision are in a class all of their own. RAEN has sourced these scratch resistant and incredibly durable mirror coated lenses for their ability to repel the dirt of the world and remain easy to clean.
Gradient RAEN offers a variety of gradient lens tones. This is a simple detail that keeps your look feeling fresh in a subtle way. Our gradient lens tones function in a variety of lighting conditions making them perfect for any sort of travel conditions and ideal on a cloudy day. They provide 100% UVA and UVB protection with Filter Category ratings ranging from 2 to 3.
Brown
Polarization
Offers a sense of enhanced contrast in a wide range of lighting conditions. Our brown lens tones excel in medium to bright sunlight and provide 100% UVA and UVB protection with a Filter Category rating of 3.
Adding the polarization coating to our CR-39 lenses helps to reduce glare off reflective surfaces: the ocean, car hoods, mirrors, your diamond ring. Polarization ensures clear vision no matter where your day takes you.

Fabriqué en France
Fabriqué en France by RAEN is the sort of thing you tell yourself you deserve… because you do. Like a nice bottle of Cépage or a few extra days on holiday. This limited run was handmade in a small family operated factory near the Jura mountains in the east of France. Materials were of the utmost importance. For this reason, we sourced acetate from Mazzucchelli 1849, a single family owned, six-generation, Italian manufacturing company that we hold in the highest regard. Each silhouette was outfitted with CR-39 lenses manufactured by Carl Zeiss Vision with AR Azure coatings. This is a premium treatment to minimize internal glare for maximum comfort and performance. We held nothing back and decided to really treat ourselves on this one with the Remmy 49, Norie and Wiley. All available in three distinct finishes: Noir, Arbois & Fumée.

If the Remmy wrote a novel. The Whidbey takes style cues from the Remmy, and translates them into this unisex and slightly oversized frame: thin, lightweight, and smart. The Whidbey’s round silhouette and keyhole bridge is a best friend to square and oval faces. It comes in both a 53mm lens, and a slightly smaller 50mm for a closer fit.
