Master in Composition at Boston University with Honors and bachelor at the Universidade de São Paulo, Rafael was a Residency Composer for the Project called Coral "Comunicantus” in 2008; on st
August/2009, he was awarded with the 1 Prize in the Classical Music category and with the Mentoring prize in the General Arts category in the University Competition of Arts called Programa Nascente – USP, with his work for flute, clarinet, viola and cello Quarteto em forma de Fauno e Éolo. It granted him a scholarship and mentoring for the implementation of an art project sponsored by Universidade de São Paulo. In 2010 he got the first place at the OCAM orchestra prize for the piece Ensaio sob a tristeza performed at MASP (Sao Paulo Art Museum) and received a prize from the Bienal da Musica Contemporanea Brasileira for your electronic piece Impaciencia televisiva. In 2011 was awarded in the Sound Icon Composers Competition for the piece Pherrk ic in Boston Massachusetts and receive a review from the New Music Box Magazine "Pherrk ic presented a far thicker and more dense stew than Sciarrino’s hide-and-seek. In 2012 he won the first prize of the Brazilian Electronic Music Society Competition for the electronic piece Pnhr22. Teacher Assistant of Aura Skills at Boston University for the sophmore and freshmen students of Music Department 2010-2012, Assistant of the Conductor Theodore Antoniou in 2011-2012 on the contemporary music ensemble ALEA III where he had a chance to work together with big names like Gunther Schuller. Rafael was a composition student of Joshua Fineberg, Aylton Escobar and Rodolfo Coelho de Souza. His composition style is influenced by his experiences in popular music as a guitarist in Jazz, Brazilian Music (samba, choro, forró ) and Rock styles, and also by his musical experience as musical arranger and musical Director for Brazilian Popular/Folk music albums. Rafael is currently working as a Music Director for a theather company in São Paulo, composing the music for "The resistible ascension of Arturo Ui" by Bertold Brecht.
