TERRACE ON THE LAKESHORE
BAC 3 S.A Design Studio- Denser & Diffuse Professor - FrĂŠderic Bonnet
The project’s aim is to reinterpretate the border between the two cities of Locarno and the next village of Muralto defined by the dry river Ramogna. The limit becomes a threshold with the new woodden terrace that tries to link in a new way the railway station and the Piazza Grande creating a path that modifies the relation with sanctuary of Madonna del Sasso and the lake. The structure is realized by modular woodden elements carried by two 100 meters long archs held together by tresses and rods.
TWO INTERLOCKING PATHS
BAC 3 S.P. Design Studio- New case study houses Professor - Christian Sumi
The project wants to understand the relations created by two different functions mixed together in a single building. A bookstore and a kindergarden are interlocked in order to exploit the courtyard typology which defines the spaces of each function. The typology is furthermore varied conforming to the construction technique. It starts with a container composition and than varies to a concrete articulation of volumes and spaces. The final step of the project consists then in understanding the perception of the place for both functions in both materials through videos and perspectives obtained with the software Rhinoceros.
TERRACE RESTAURANT
MAS 1 S.A. Design Studio- Ristorante al Porto Antico di Genova Professor - Quintus Miller
The restaurant in the Porto Antico of Genova occupies a void in the urban fabric of the city and connects two little squares positioned on the front and on the back of the building at different heights. The big diining room developes along a path that links the two squares through a terrace composition. After entering in the building the path of the customers moves through two theatral scenes that define three spaces: the bar/entrance, the ding room and the fumoir, while the service spaces are under the slope of the main space. In this scenario the customers become spectators and actor of the main act of eating at the restaurant that has to feel comfortable and familiar, but at the same time unexpected.
MASTERPLAN FOR BUCHAREST
MAS 1 S.P. Design Studio- Low rise, High density 4 Professor - Jonathan Sergison
The masterplan designed has to solve a void in the middle of the city of Bucharest. It started with the analysis of the in between spaces that characterize diffusely the urban fabric: these semi-private spaces are very similar to courtyards for the feeling but are not so well defined by a limit. The urban strategy to design the plot has started with the definitions of the size of the blocks and the creation of two pedestrian axis that pass through the site and develope the links with the new area, the existing monuments in it and the external areas. The new neighborhood is so defined by diffuse public space that activates public areas at the groud floor of some blocks and more private areas in the coutyards of the blocks.
CAGLIARI: NEW LINK BETWEEN THE CASTLE AND THE SEA
MAS 2 S.A. Design Studio- Reuse of the ruins of the Santa Chiara convent in Cagliari Professor - Martin Boesch
The project wants to recreate the link between the sea and the walls of the old castle of Cagliari. A new branch of the Univerisy of architecture of Cagliari organises a semi-public path that connects the old headquarters situated above the walls to the XIX century Piazza Yenne through a path that passes beside the Elephant’s tower. The strategic point of junction is occupied by the XIII century convent of Santa Chiara, and its ruins offer an interesting opportunity to develope a reuse project. The project is conceived as a concrete base that connects the level of the walls to the one of the sea and arranges a sequence of functions for the university composed by solids and voids. The main building of the branch of the university is the new library which finds place in the cloister of the old convent: the storage rooms and the small reading rooms are arranged in the old refectory and rooms of the nuns, and the main reading room is placed in the big void of the cloister, a space for the books the silence and the light.

SPORT CENTER BETWEEN THE CITY AND THE MOUNTAIN
DIPLOME PROJECT Design Studio- Sport Center in Chiasso Professor - Mario Botta
The masterplan for the sport center in Chiasso aims to reconnect the urban fabric of the southern part of the town: on the east the housing deveopement of the Soldini district, and on the west the industrial fabric of the Faloppia plan. The intention is to introduce a north-south direction that shifts the longitudinal developement of the town beyond the railways and reestablish the relations between Chiasso and the Mount Penz. The structure of the sport center is defined by a sequence of walls arranged at the edge of the mountain that define on one side the paths toward a linear park connected to the mountain, and on the other side the edge of the stadium. The Sport Center is composed by stripes of functions: the three pavillions (swiming pool, the existing basket field and hockey field), the main piazza and the stadium that evoques the reestablished relation with the Penz through a funicular roofing that connects the base of the mount to a new public building situated on the street.
