I would like to thank the outgoing GC members for their time serving the Club. I would also like to extend a warm welcome to the newly elected members of the General Committee. One of the immediate tasks that the General Committee will look into is the Food & Beverage area at the Golfers’ Terrace. As I have mentioned in my election speech, we will do an in-depth review of the GT operations and look into the main areas that we can improve on, which are the food quality, operational efficiency and overall customer satisfaction. We will be carrying out a poll to find out from members the type of hawker food that they would like to eat at the Golfers’ Terrace. Having this feedback from members will allow us to tweak our menu and allow our chefs to focus on these types of food so that we can serve the best hawker food at the Club that members are asking for. I have also mentioned our golf courses. They are our assets and a major source of revenue for the Club as well as enjoyment for our members. As such, we will endeavour to keep our golf courses in pristine condition. We will use the best and latest golf course management programmes available so that we have excellent cultural practices for maintaining our golf courses. We will provide more training for our course maintenance staff to further develop their competency on golf course maintenance as well as obtain the best practices from the golfing industry and other golf courses in Asia. Our goal is to ensure that our golf courses are kept in their best playable conditions at all times.
We are also looking at injecting more fun and enjoyment into our golfing events. One of the possible areas we would look into is to co-ordinate the golfing events with Lifestyle so that the events are more lively and entertaining. We will hold such events at the Golfers’ Terrace. We will be communicating with members for their inputs so that it is a members’ event. Please rest assured that members’ feedback is welcomed. You will be heard. On a personal note, I will make every effort to meet members for casual conversations whenever I am at the Club. If you are at the Club and you see me there, please come up and say ‘hello’. I will be happy to chat with you over a glass of beer or coffee. I am also open to playing a round of golf with members, so just let me know if you would like to golf with me. It will be my pleasure to join you and your Kakis. We are a members’ Club and as members, we can make the Club a great place to be in and for us to have an enjoyable time playing the game that so many of us love. And, at the same time enjoy great food and friendship. Let’s all do our best to make RCC a club that we can be proud of.
Paul Singh President
We are a members’ Club and as members,
WE CAN MAKE THE CLUB A GREAT PLACE TO BE IN AND FOR US TO HAVE AN ENJOYABLE TIME PLAYING THE GAME that so many of us love.
Thank you for your support. Ciao for now! See you at the Club!

Captain's age
Mess
It is a great honour to be elected as Captain of this prestigious golf club for 2016.
After all, this is not MY Club. It is not THEIR (Management) Club. This is OUR Club.
I send a special ‘Thank You’ to all our members who supported and voted for me during the AGM held on 23 September 2016. I would also like to thank the past captains for giving me this privilege.
I look forward to working with the team to consolidate and secure the future of the club.
Initially quite unprepared, for like many of you, I was happy to play, have a pint and go home: letting the Club Committees get on with it and having no personal responsibility. I had attended AGMs over the years and thought to myself: “What a thankless task for anyone getting caught up with all that – they need their heads examined!” but one day Paul Singh (who is now our Club President) called me up informing me of the Club’s situation, amongst other areas of concern. I agreed to give it serious thought and consideration. I began to contemplate the personal implications: the responsibility associated with accepting the position. Am I looking forward to this year as the Captain of this golf club? Yes, wholeheartedly. I will immerse and involve myself in all aspects of this Club. I have pride and passion: I am humbled by the goodwill that I sense towards me and I will be proud to lead this Club into 2017. With my commitment to you all, be assured that I will do my very best, my utmost for you and this Club.
As we all know, recent years have been challenging for all golf clubs. Our Club, along with many others, is under threat; therefore it is important that we remain focused and vigilant, keeping our fingers on the pulse to monitor any adverse trends, reacting and managing changes as required. At the same time, we must do all we can to ensure that the courses are kept in pristine condition. Our existing members must feel that their subscription represents good value. Committees and the management must endeavour to satisfy and further enhance the benefits of their membership together with seeking new members. No single or small group of people can do it all; it is a team effort. Members are the heartbeat of the Club and I ask you all to support the Committee and the Club.
Sebastian Song Captain
I have pride and passion:
I AM HUMBLED BY THE GOODWILL THAT I SENSE TOWARDS MYSELF and I will be proud to lead this club into 2017.
Together we can make a difference: we can’t do it without you. Finally, may I wish you all a prosperous golfing season and look forward to enjoying a game of golf with you.

Joining RCC as the General Manager’s secretary, Gracie has more than 10 years of secretarial experience under her belt. She graduated with a Double Diploma in Private Secretary and Business Administration (LCCI) and is well-versed in the roles a secretary has to play. To her, a good secretary is someone who always has the information her superior needs at her fingertips. Starting her career as a legal secretary in Litigation and Conveyancing, Gracie believes that the hectic environment helped to lay the groundwork for her to become wellversed in working systematically and efficiently. After a five year stint at the firm, she went on to become a secretary for a director of the corporate secretarial department. Having to work closely with colleagues from different departments required her to be able to communicate effectively, and she is thankful to have developed invaluable communication, decision-making and problem solving skills. An optimistic and cheerful lady, she believes that “Every cloud has a silver lining” and as long as you stay positive, good things will happen. Her favourite pastime is jogging as she always feel relaxed and peaceful after sweating it out. Although she is still a stranger to golfing, she is definitely looking forward to picking up the sport in the near future. Gracie also enjoys travelling and makes it a point to explore a new country at least once a year.

Snapsh ts We've got a pair of newcomers at Lake Course! Making Your Golfing Experience a Better One!
A pair of masked lapwing was spotted roaming Lake course since mid-June. Native to Australia and New Zealand, this pair of fearless 'lovebirds' decided to build their nest not once, but twice, along the buggy track.
Silver Hill Duck – Best Duck in the World, Ireland
The female laid her first four eggs in late July, which mysteriously disappeared one by one. Determined to make the scenic Lake course her new home, she then laid another batch of four eggs in early August. One egg went missing in the end but all the three other eggs have hatched!
Silver Hill Farm is a fully integrated duck company. The ‘Wagyu’ of ducks, Silver Hill ducklings upholds its name as being probably ‘The Best Duck in the World’ by winning many awards in the culinary industry. A hybrid that, after many years of research, produces ducks that are full of flavour, succulent, tender and consistent in quality. Suitable for any kind of palettes and cuisines, it is truly a culinary experience. Prices start from $36 for ½ duck onwards.

Das Oktoberfest at RCC! 23 September 2016
One, Two, Three, DRINK!
H
ailing all the way from Munich, Bavaria, Germany, Oktoberfest is a 16 – 18-day folk festival drawing over 6 million people from all over the world annually. On 3 September, RCC turned Albatross into mini Munich, with the aroma of roasted pork knuckles, sausages, beef and mix of other mouth-watering dishes seeping through its doors, drawing hungry members like ants to sugar.
Members eating, drinking and connecting during the Oktoberfest!
10
Hosted by the ever enthusiastic and humorous emcee, Nas Shafain, members and guests were given a roaring welcome upon stepping through the wooden door. Even better, the rows of delectable food and drinks beckoned to the hungry stomachs, attracting members unconsciously to the feast laid out in front of them. The shining eyes and intense chomping throughout the night was testament to the quality of food.

The ladies crooning to the crowd.
One of the karaoke kings, Mr Heng Thye Yong, winning a prize!
Cheers to another year of enjoyable Oktoberfest!
To ‘amp’ up the event, two beautiful Erdinger brand ambassadors dressed in traditional Bavarian costumes went around to promote the event’s special, Erdinger White and Dark Beer, going for only $6.90 each! Members being treated to a free flow beer fountain was the icing on the cake. Knowing that RCC members enjoy singing, the emcee opened up the stage for them to serenade the audience. The vocal showdown was terrific and the best singers were rewarded with prizes! The key highlight of the singing segment was the five-year-old grandson of a member singing ‘Chan Mali Chan’ and ‘Let It Go’ like a professional singer. Cuteness overload! Next up, the emcee kicked off an innovative game of bingo that replaced conventional numbers with options like plucking off three hairs and going topless to complete the game. Of course, monumental sacrifices like these called for equally good prizes! Participant Mr Heng Thye Yong was
A 5-year-old dishing out Chan Mali Chan and Let It Go like a pro!
definitely grinning from ear to ear when he received his prize! What is Oktoberfest without a beer-drinking competition? And what is a competition without some level of difficulty for our thirsty members? Definitely not for those with weak stomachs, participants of the competition were made to turn five rounds on the spot after drinking their first mug of beer, followed by ten rounds after the second mug and lastly, complete the third mug bending down! Now that was definitely raising the difficulty level up several notches! Of course, nothing could deter our members with stomachs of steel. The three warriors drank like there was no tomorrow and downed their last gulps amidst rambunctious cheering. With their thirst well-satiated, stomachs filled with authentic German fare and arms laden with prizes, members went home that night walking on air. Oktoberfest 2017, we are ready for you! RCC Invitational 2016 14 August 2016
I
t is common knowledge that friendships are forged over a game of golf. The networking, the interaction and the fraternising are the unique social opportunities that golf can give you as a sport. There is no other sport that offers the luxury of time and social setting. And with this, we formed the essence of the RCC Invitational. The RCC Invitational 2016 was organised with the purpose of reaching out to members’ guests and friends from our local and overseas reciprocal clubs, inviting them to RCC for a round of golf and showcasing our beautiful golf courses. For the inaugural event, we selected the magnificent Lake Course to set the background for the game. After months of preparation, the day finally came and we were blessed with blue skies and fine weather. The Sunday game was set to start after a quick lunch of Teochew porridge at the foyer.
ARE
Where Friendships FORGED AND the Fun begins.
Before setting out, participants gathered at the lakefront buggy dispatch area to form human letters of “RCC”, which was captured on video with an aerial video-cam driven by a drone. As everyone was moving out to their respective Tee-boxes, they were served with ice cream along the way.
Hurray to the inaugural RCC Invitational!
16
To inject more fun into the event, we included Hole-in-Two prizes to the regular Hole-in-One. Other novelty games included Best Nett Team Champion, Best Nett Team Runner-Up and Nearest to the Pin for Men and Ladies. The fun didn’t stop when the game was over. It continued into the evening’s programme. Everyone was treated to an eight-course Chinese dinner which was interlaced with fun quizzes initiated by the emcee, Sylvia. The screening of the aerial videography of the day’s event and the prize presentation were some of the highlights of the evening. A dance segment led by Sylvia in the later part of the evening got most of the dinner participants on their feet bopping to the beat of classic hits like Gangnam Style and YMCA. When the evening came to an end, many were red-faced and happy. Interestingly, a Korean guest wanted to know if this event was a monthly affair. He clearly had a great time and wanted more. For those who have missed this inaugural RCC Invitational 2016, look out for the next instalment in 2017 and don’t forget to sign up early! We wish to thank the enthusiastic participation of members and guests, as well as the support of our generous sponsors who contributed to the success of this event. Our sponsors are Winston Wines, Red Bull, American Express, Gopher Beverages, Claude Bernard, TEHC, PSN Asia Pac, Knowledge Tree, Golf Hub International, Apexlync, Mr Paul Singh and Mr Patrick Low. For the first time in the history of RCC golfing events, we had the drone licence approved; and with it, not only did we capture the aerial videography of the amazing overview of the Club and the golfers in action on the course, but a memorable event.

Inter-Club Golf Friendly 2016:
RCC vs KRPM 21 August 2016
Caps off to a game well-played!
W
hat better way to seal a friendship than over a game of golf?
The Club hosted one of its long-time Reciprocal Clubs in Malaysia – Kelab Rahman Putra Malaysia - on Sunday, 21 August 2016 at the acclaimed Lake Course. Despite the beautiful morning being dampened ever so slightly by the early morning showers, the Bawang & Chilli combination soon worked its magic to bring about the perfect weather conditions for play. Blessed with a cooling breeze, golfers executed perfect strokes and forged bullishly ahead in an attempt to put their team in the lead in the exhilarating game.
Swag alert! Cool lad
ies on the course!
Taking the game stroke by stroke, the players of Raffles Country Club soon steered the team towards victory and emerged the winner on home ground. Based on the total score of the Top 20 pairs, RCC led the game by almost 100 points! Congratulations RCC and thank you for a great game KRPM! This event has definitely helped to tighten the friendships and bonds forged between the two clubs. See you again soon!

Men’s & Ladies’ Club Championship, Men’s & Ladies’ Intermediate Championship and Aruan Cup 3 - 17 September 2016
A
test of skills, endurance and luck, the Men’s & Ladies’ Club and Intermediate Championship and Aruan Cup are permanent fixtures on the golfing calendar. As one of the major club events, this competition has attracted a sizeable pool of avid and keen players through the years. This year is no different as we witnessed throngs of talented golfers dotting the greens of the ever-challenging Palm Course over three consecutive weekends. Trying their best to outmanoeuvre each other on the familiar yet arduous terrain, the participants put their years of experience and skills to the test. Blessed with fast green speeds across all the four days of the tournament, even the more seasoned players found it a challenge to gain an edge over their peers and only managed to win by a nose at the final holes.

20
One of the key highlights of the event was when Samir Bedi of the Men’s Club Championship had a play-off with Ben Chua. Both outdoing themselves in this tie-breaker, Ben Chua emerged the winner in this year’s edition. Likewise, after rounds of intense showdown among excellent players, other categories like Men’s Intermediate Championship, Aruan Cup, Ladies’ Club Championship and Ladies’ Intermediate Championship produced worthy winners who were honoured with trophies, their names commemorated on the Honour Board and personalised lockers for the rest of the year! Indeed hearty congratulations to all winners! And we look forward to welcoming more worthy players next year!

themselves on the different courses in Singapore rain or shine, on a weekly basis despite everyone’s busy schedule. Much emphasis was placed on attributes such as team camaraderie, commitment, cohesiveness and good etiquette for the team members to abide by.
After rounds of elimination from the selection trials that were held between December 2015 and January 2016, the fifty six-member strong 2016 team was born. New blood was injected into this year’s team to ensure a good mix of experience and skills.
Unfortunately, the journey for the 2016 season proved to be a vertical climb all the way; the arduous task of winning each game is likened to wheels within wheels which escaped the clutches of our best players.
Having achieved a remarkable runner-up position in the overall SGA ICL 2015 season, the team had to face the daunting expectation of achieving the same, if not better ranking amongst the clubs in Singapore. And boy, did they train hard to live up to that expectation! The diligent team was seen out training and acclimatizing
SGA ICL 2016 - Performance
Despite their best efforts and winning against the ultimate champion of SGA ICL 2016 team, TMCC, the RCC Team came in 4th place, out of the thirteen clubs that participated. Losing only two games and having gotten a draw in another two, let’s give them the applause they deserve for giving their best! To a better SGA ICL 2017!

The Junior Open 2016 By Donovan Lee, RCC Junior Member
O
ur very own RCC Junior Member, 15-year-old Donovan Lee, recently returned from the Junior Open 2016, which took place in Scotland from 11 to 13 July 2016. Hear what he has to say about his oncein-a-lifetime experience and he is grateful to everyone for this memorable experience in Scotland. “Getting a slot in the Junior Open was considered lucky for me even though I was playing quite well during this period. I was selected under the Order of Merit from SGA for golfers in the “under 16 years old” category. I would like to thank SGA for giving me this great opportunity to play in the Junior Open in Scotland. The Junior Open tournament is held once every two years in Scotland and is only for juniors who are 16 years old and below. This really was a once-in-the-lifetime experience for me as I would have exceeded the age limit in the next Junior Open. Playing on links courses was a big challenge for me as Singapore does not have such courses for me to train on. The weather was another big challenge; I had to play under windy and cold conditions. Although I arrived in Scotland a few days earlier to condition myself, I still had difficulties acclimatising and playing well in such an environment. There were some outstanding players in the tournament but the winner of the Junior Open was a junior from Portugal, Pedro Lencart Silva. He shot 6-under on the final day to clinch the title. Silva is a humble person and he confessed to me that his whole life centres around golf and he has no time for his education. I think he has the makings of a future PGA star. As mentioned earlier, this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I have learnt a lot during this tournament. I have learnt how to improve my game in different aspects and also how to better prepare myself under different conditions and environments for the next tournament. Lastly I wish to thank everyone who has helped me in one way or another during my trip to THE JUNIOR OPEN.”

An Important Milestone By Erika Layson, RCC Junior Member
One of the many things that I loved about this event was the Scottish people. They are very friendly and welcoming to strangers. I recalled when my Dad and I were having lunch at the cafe, on their way out of the club, some of the club members would stop by to share their experiences and to give advice on how to play the course well. This was something very foreign to me, which I have not seen in Singapore. The people here are very encouraging and accommodating towards junior golfers. My personal highlight was receiving my Junior Open players badge from the 2015 Open Championship Zack Johnson. This is something I will treasure for the rest of my life.
I
was over the moon when I was informed that I was selected to represent Singapore at The Junior Open Championship 2016 in Scotland. This was definitely one of the best tournaments I have ever participated in and it was a very unique experience for me. Being in Europe for the first time, I did not know what to expect - both on and off the course. Thankfully, my dad had planned for us to arrive there a week earlier to adjust to the weather and course conditions. With temperatures hitting a low of 12°C and winds as strong as 30km/h, it was something you cannot really be prepared and train for in Singapore. Throughout the tournament, I was faced with numerous challenges, one of which was adapting to the constant changes in both wind speed and direction during the round. There were times when the weather got so cold that I had to exercise to keep myself warm before hitting my shots. Scottish links Golf has a fearsome reputation for its thick fescue rough. The Kilmarnock Barassie Golf course was no exception - it is a tough championship course that was also used for the qualifiers in last year's Open Championship.
After the Junior Open, all the junior players were invited to The Open Championship held at The Troon in Scotland. It was a very unique and different experience from the other professional events such as the HSBC Women's Champions and the SMBC Singapore Open that I attended earlier this year. I have always enjoyed watching major championship golf on the television, but being here watching the big names such as Jason Day and Rory Mcllroy up close in person was surreal! The atmosphere in the spectators’ village was electrifying! It was like a carnival! Thousands of people were sitting and laying on the grass and massive Jumbotron televisions were everywhere. I have never seen anything like it. It was truly an experience like no other. I am very grateful for this opportunity and to those who have helped make this possible. Most importantly, I would like to thank my parents for their support and encouragement. The next Junior Open will be held at St Andrew's in 2018, I wish I could go but I would be ineligible to compete (U16) then as I would have exceeded the qualifying age. I would like to wish the next two junior golfers who will be representing Singapore all the best. I hope they will have as much fun as I did!
From this tournament, I realised the importance of shaping and varying your shots, such as hitting low punch shots, high soft pitches, fades, etc. and adapting quickly. There were certain shots that I was unable to execute during my rounds and that was something I have to keep in mind and work on during my training sessions. Overall, the tournament was very well organised and enjoyable. I was able to interact with people from all around the world, such as Cook Islands, Uruguay, as well as our friends from Myanmar, Thailand and Malaysia.

A Visit to
The Home of Golf
By Edwin Layson, Father of RCC Junior Member Erika Layson
I
left England at the age of 15, boarded a plane on my own and headed to Singapore to train full-time to pursue my tennis ambition.
In July 2016, I returned to the United Kingdom, Scotland with my 15-year-old daughter, Erika, to fulfil her golfing aspirations, and it felt like a homecoming of sorts. We set out trying to qualify for this event two years ago. The Junior Open Championship is a biennial international tournament, a junior version of the Open Championship. This year, the event was held at the Kilmarnock (Barassie) Golf Club in Scotland and it attracted 148 players from 80 countries. Upon our arrival, my daughter’s first impression was how old the buildings looked in Scotland. "The buildings are so old here. Is this our hotel? So antique looking!" Unbeknownst to her, I had booked the Victorian-style inn in a little town near the golf course to experience local life instead of staying at the local village. This was the perfect opportunity for my ‘city girl’ to experience the sort of cultural landscape that I grew up in. Erika had a good tournament, forged many new friendships and when the time came for us to leave, we were reluctant to. Singapore is a modern city, all glass and chrome, 24/7 entertainment and iconic buildings with an ever changing skyline, but it lacks soul. Scotland is the complete opposite. A charming rustic place where time stands still; simple pleasures such as stroll down the village has a calming effect. The courses here are beautiful and scenic. The hospitality of the Scots is warm. Scotland is truly the home of golf. Scotland is a ‘must visit’ for all who play this beautiful game.

Swing Makeover
By Chris Marriott - Head Professional, Raffles Country Club
C
hampion jockey Glen Boss has been doing some great work off the racing track in a bid to become a more consistent ball-striker and lower his scores on the golf course. Like many professional jockeys, the three-time Melbourne Cup winner’s downtime away from horse racing at Kranji or back in Australia is often spent out on the golf course. Glen’s recent training sessions under my coaching at the driving range have involved a significant change to the overall pattern of his golf swing. It was previously a rather long, loose and disconnected motion that has now become a compact, repeatable and powerful golf swing.
Glen Front Before
Glen Front After
Glen Back Before
Glen Back After
Glen Impact Before
Glen Impact After
Similar to many amateur golfers, Glen’s upper body previously tilted towards the target during the backswing (Pic 1), causing the club to point across the target line at the top of the backswing (Pic 2). Glen’s upper body then shifted even further toward the target on the downswing, which left his arms trailing his body with his hands very far behind the clubhead at impact, creating a weak hitting position (Pic 3). With the use of a mirror and impact bag we were able to train Glen’s shoulders to turn or coil around his spine rather than tilt towards the target which helped maintain the level of his hips and height of his body as he made a backswing (Pic 4) and also allowed the club to sit in a more neutral position at the top of the swing (Pic 5). From this new backswing posture, Glen could easily deliver the club into a stronger impact position with the hands now more ahead of the ball and the shaft leaning towards the target (Pic 6). This new move created much more compression, resulting in a stronger and more predictable ball flight and also a considerable increase in distance. With a good understanding of posture and direction of turn, with a mirror and an impact bag, you too can make some huge improvements to your ball-striking!!

Conduct of Players During Club Golf Competition By Dennis Ee, Golf Manager
A
s in any amateur competition, there are bound to be competitors who take the competition lightly and treat the game as just another social game. Sadly, by signing up for a competition, a competitor has committed to observe the rules of golf, etiquette and conduct in a manner befitting the spirit of the competition. If you do not, others will ensure that you observe these basics of competition seriously in the same manner as they do. If you are not a regular competitor, you will find the below article useful. In any club competitions, members are required to register personally at the Golf Reception prior to the tee off. On registration, it means that the player has confirmed his attendance for the competition and the competitors will be issued a scorecard with their name, handicap index and other information such as tee time, hole number and course name printed on the scorecard. The responsibility of the competitor at this stage is to ensure that the Handicap Index assigned is correct and correspondent to the month where the Handicap is to be used. Although it is the duty of the Golf Office to assign your handicap index, the onus still lies with the player to check the accuracy of his Handicap Index. Of course besides this, the player must also ensure that the other details printed on the scorecard are correct. Rule 6-2. Handicap a. Match Play Before starting a match in a handicap competition, the players should determine from one another their respective handicaps. If a player begins a match having declared a handicap higher than that to which he is entitled to and this affects the number of strokes given or received, he is disqualified; otherwise, the player must play off the declared handicap. b. Stroke Play
In any round of a handicap competition, the competitor must ensure that his handicap is recorded on his score card before it is returned to the Committee.. If no handicap is recorded on his score card before it is returned (Rule 6-6b), or if the recorded handicap is higher than that to which he is entitled and this affects the number of strokes received, he is disqualified from the handicap competition; otherwise, the score stands.
28
Note: It is the player's responsibility to know the holes at which handicap strokes are to be given or received. Unlike a Professional Competition, where the exchange of the scorecards will be taken care of by the organiser during registration, players in a club competition are expected to ensure that they exchange the scorecard themselves with their markers, who are normally the buggy mates, prior to tee off. This is normally done at the tee box or buggy staging area, or wherever is convenient. Once the scorecards are exchanged, it means that the marker is responsible for the recording of the other player’s score during the round. Of course the marker will also record his own score, usually at the bottom of the scorecards for verification purpose. As a marker, a player is expected to mark the fellow competitor’s score accurately and at the same time, observe that he plays the game in accordance with the rules of golf. At the end of the competition, before submission of the scorecard, a marker must verify the hole by hole score of the fellow competitor. Having said this, it is also the responsibility of the player himself to ensure that the scores recorded by the marker are correct. If the scores, after having been signed and submitted, are lower than the actual score, he may be subject to disqualification.

GOLF
6-6. Scoring in Stroke Play
6-3. Time of Starting and Groups
a. Recording Scores
a. Time of Starting
After each hole the marker should check the score with the competitor and record it. On completion of the round the marker must sign the score card and hand it to the competitor. If more than one marker records the scores, each must sign for the part for which he is responsible.
The player must start at the time established by the Committee.
b. Signing and Returning Score Card After completion of the round, the competitor should check his score for each hole and settle any doubtful points with the Committee. He must ensure that the marker or markers have signed the score card, sign the score card himself and return it to the Committee as soon as possible. Penalty for Breach of Rule 6-6b: Disqualification. c. Alteration of Score Card No alteration may be made on a score card after the competitor has returned it to the Committee. d. Wrong Score for Hole The competitor is responsible for the accuracy of the score recorded for each hole on his score card. If he returns a score for any hole lower than actually taken, he is disqualified. If he returns a score for any hole higher than actually taken, the score as returned stands. Exception: If a competitor returns a score for any hole lower than actually taken due to failure to include one or more penalty strokes that, before returning his score card, he did not know he had incurred, he is not disqualified. In such circumstances, the competitor incurs the penalty prescribed by the applicable Rule and an additional penalty of two strokes for each hole at which the competitor has committed a breach of Rule 6-6d. This Exception does not apply when the applicable penalty is disqualification from the competition.
Penalty for Breach of Rule 6-3a: If the player arrives at his starting point, ready to play, within five minutes after his starting time, the penalty for failure to start on time is loss of the first hole in match play or two strokes at the first hole in stroke play. Otherwise, the penalty for breach of this Rule is disqualification. Before the tee off, players are also expected to show their balls and markings on the balls for identification purposes. The number on the ball and brand alone are not unique enough to prevent wrongful identification of balls due to popular brands in the market ie. Tiltleist and Callaway Balls. Players are strongly encouraged to mark their balls with unique markings prior to the competition. This way, they will not be subjected to unnecessary penalties for playing the wrong ball or causing undue delay if they struggle to mark their ball midway through the game. Similar to driving on the roads, you do not wish to be held up by slow traffic. In golf, it is the responsibility of all the players to ensure they observe the pace of play and do not cause undue delays. A player may be subject to penalties for unduly delayed play. 6-7. Undue Delay; Slow Play The player must play without undue delay and in accordance with any pace of play guidelines that the Committee may establish. Between completion of a hole and playing from the next teeing ground, the player must not unduly delay play. With the above, I hope you will understand the competition rules better and observe them the next time you take part in a club competition and prevent yourself from making unnecessary mistakes that can lead to a penalty.
The competitor is to ensure that he reports to the starter 10 minutes before the tee off time. Although the starter will arrange to page the players who do not show up on time, it is not a starter’s duty to ensure that a competitor arrives punctually. If a player reports late to the starter, he will be subjected to the below penalty.

RCC Fishing 10 October 2016
T
he event all anglers have been waiting for IS BACK WITH A BANG!
Seeing 36 members and 68 guests, the long-awaited fishing affair kicked off at 12.30pm sharp as many eager participants reached as early as 11.30am. Waiting under the sweltering heat of 33 degrees Celsius for hours on end, some of the anglers can be seen moving to less punishing spots of Palm Course, such as under the trees. After all, fishing is all about enjoying the process.
A picture of peace and patience. A test of patience.
Patience definitely does pay off when fishing at RCC as many participants were seen reeling up both big and small catches when we were out on the course catching a shot! Oh the excitement of pulling up a giant is indescribable! We hope everyone went home satisfied and we can’t wait to see more participants discovering the many ‘sea monsters’ in our lake during the next fishing event. Till then!
The fishing buddies!
A great catch, Peacock Bass!
So... the little one attracted its bigger twin.
Guess who!
Lesson from the anglers, these are
The two giants!
called Snake Heads!

Health Tips on Natural Remedies
Contributed by Loh Kum Chuen, Pharmacist
T
he Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore has a very catchy and meaningful logo “Not for Self but for All“ which we, as pharmacists, adopt to pass on our knowledge on health issues to the general public in our Public Education programmes. The health tips which I have compiled here are drawn from the experience of naturopaths, doctors, pharmacists and herbalists which I will pass on to our RCC members in a series of articles for their health benefits. High Blood Pressure (HBP or Hypertension) More than half of people over 60 have high blood pressure, or hypertension of 140/90 or greater and some develop it even earlier. Obesity, stress, high salt diet and high cholesterol can contribute to hypertension and, if uncontrolled, can lead to heart attack, stroke, kidney failure and diabetes. Dietary and lifestyle changes, relaxation techniques and cholesterol therapies may help if detected early. Medication can help lower blood pressure but these drugs often have side effects in varying degrees such as dizziness, chronic cough, fatigue and even erectile dysfunction. There are several natural remedies which have been recommended by alternative health practitioners which
32
have been found effective depending on the root causes. Calcium in combination with Magnesium have been found to aid transmission of nerve impulses that help to relax arteries and muscles, improving blood flow. Calcium helps in the contraction of heart muscles and Magnesium helps to relax them. Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) Many with HBP often have low levels of CoQ10 which is required for all cell functions and energy production. As we age, we produce less of this antioxidant which helps to protect our heart, arteries, muscles, kidneys, liver and every organ in our body. Hawthorne extract has a blood thinning effect which improves blood flow and has been used in Chinese medicine for centuries. Consult your doctor before using it if you are on a pharmaceutical blood thinner, such as aspirin or warfarin. Regular Exercise helps lower blood pressure. Our body produces endorphins which help us relax, feel good and sleep well, contributing to our overall well-being.

LIFESTYLE
Spot Health Problems from Body Signals Our body has a complex defence mechanism which sends out signals when we lack certain nutrients or is bombarded by toxins or infections. Hair Loss is often blamed on genes but could be due to excessive cortisol (a stress hormone) or testosterone or deficiencies in estrogen, progesterone or thyroid hormones. These imbalance are associated with poor diet, stress, exposure to toxins or (for women) pregnancy or menopause. Saw Palmetto extract for men and Chasteberry for women may help reduce hair loss. Ashwagandha herb extract, Passion flower or Valerian root extract may help to relieve stress. If these do not help stop the hair loss within six weeks, consult your doctor for test on hormone imbalance. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) may be required. Brittle Hair that breaks easily and has split ends could signal nutritional deficiencies of mineral silicon, organic sulphur Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), Vitamin B complex or Essential Fatty Acids (EFA and DHA). Supplementation with Multivitamins with minerals and Omega 3 (Fish oil or Flaxseed oil) may help. Dandruff often stems from nutritional deficiencies such as Vitamin B complex, mineral Selenium and EFAs (Fish oil or Flaxseed oil). Dandruff may be also linked to low stomach acid, which impedes nutrient absorption. Gentian herb or Dandelion root extract helps to stimulate stomach acid production.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Diarrhoea or Constipation may be a result of food sensitivity, stress and upset of balance between the good and bad bacteria in the gut. Modern lifestyle is a real gut destroyer with chlorinated water, antibiotics, mercury exposure, stress, and poor diet. All these team up to destroy the good bacteria so replenishing them with a supplement makes good sense, that is if the right species and strain of good bacteria (Probiotics with Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium species) is used. These bacteria live in your sinus cavity, mouth, throat, urinary tract and skin. They help regulate the digestive system and provide protection against harmful bacteria, fungi, and viruses. They naturally boost your immune system and manufactures several B vitamins and vitamin K and help with the absorption of minerals. When your good bacteria counts dip down too low, you are open to digestive problems resulting in IBS, diarrhoea / constipation, flatulence, bloating, bad breath and prone to skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis, hormonal imbalances, allergies, vaginitis and respiratory tract infections. For food poisoning due to ingestion of harmful bacteria, you can treat with 3 to 5 doses of Probiotics (5 billion units of live bacteria / dose) on the first day. With that, your body should be able to fight and eliminate the intestinal infection. References: Extracts from Dr Mark Stengler’s “Natural Healing Library”
Hairless skin or sparse hair in men or women signals a deficiency in the hormone testosterone and / or DHEA, which can increase the risk for depression, fatigue, poor memory, low libido, osteoporosis and heart disease. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) or oral supplementation of DHEA may be required under a doctor’s supervision. Stiff Knees or Joint Pain can signal Osteoarthritis, a degeneration of cartilage due to previous injuries, inflammatory disease or nutritional deficiencies. To help lubricate joints and repair cartilage, supplement with a combination of Glucosamine, Chondroitin and MSM, Hydrolysed Collagen and Omega 3.

Change of Staircase Carpet leading to Fu Lin Men Chinese Restaurant
Ice Scoop Container
The carpet on the staircase leading to Fu Lin Men Chinese Restaurant has been changed as the old one was worn out and unsightly.
An ice scoop container has been installed at the right-handside of the ice machine to hold the scoop. This makes it easier for members and guests to locate and replace the ice scoop instead of having to leave it at the top of the ice machine.
Additional AED units at Recreation Wing Partitions @ Buggy Bay Shoe Wash Area Two pieces of partitions have been installed at both ends of the shoe wash area to prevent water splashing out of the wash area, ensuring that the walking area remains dry and safe for the members.

The Facilities team have installed 2 additional AED units at the Recreation Wing after noticing that the nearest AED units are over at the Golfers’ Terrace and Buggy Bay. These new AED units come with a demo video to ensure that anybody who is not familiar with the AED can still operate it during an emergency. 1 unit is installed just outside of the gym and the other unit is placed just outside the Ladies Changing Room at the Swimming Pool.
