Studying in Raffles Merchandising Institute has led me to know what I want to be in the future. I learnt lots of new things that will be useful for my job in the future. For example, from studying buying principle, I know how the buyers behave. Garment and Composition is also an important module because I learn about the types of silhouettes. Visual Merchandising is useful in the real world such as my internship with Lanvin. There are also some fun modules such as digital photography. I really enjoyed myself when I was taking this module. The biggest project that I did was the charity fashion show in promotion and coordination class. On top of that, the teachers in Raffles are very kind and fun because they mix with us and are really helpful when we do our projects, giving us invaluable feedback to help us improve. The time I spent at Raffles Design Institute felt so fun, it was as if my whole 2 years of school life was over in a flash, in a matter of the few seconds I was on stage receiving my Diploma in Fashion Marketing. There are happy and sad moments to have graduated with a diploma from Raffles Design Institute with a reluctance to say goodbye to all of my friends and lecturers. The Fashion Marketing course offered many avenues to develop my self-confidence, teamwork, leadership as well as communication skills. During my one and a half years in the Fashion Marketing course, I have improved and developed myself as a marketer and designer. My marketing knowledge has provided me with a strong understanding of the fashion business and its operations, preparing me for an experience with a company, to be able to benefit from my hard work and neverending enthusiasm to learn. I am glad Raffles provided me with a 3-month internship and I took the initiative to participate in various fashion shows, which have broadened my experiences. It’s been 1.5 years since I have transferred from Raffles College in Sydney and I can say that there were so many memorable events during this short time. My biggest project so far is organizing a charity fashion show for fashion promotion and coordination class. The show, called La Soirée Blanche (The White Party), was a success and it was attended by a lot of people. Nothing feels better than watching the show which you worked hard on go smoothly. Besides this class, other subjects that I like the most are buying principles and accounting. The reason I like these two classes is that I think it’s very useful for my future work to know the basics of business. I wish to become a fashion buyer or fashion stylist so that’s why I took the position of fashion stylist assistant during my internship and yes, it certainly taught me a lot of new things.

In the past 2 years, I have had a lot of precious experience and interesting activities in my Advanced Diploma course in Raffles Design Institute. I had a chance to work with ‘Lesportsac’ in displaying their retail stores products, and with ‘Reebonz’ in designing their new interior outlook. The most memorable experience is that all of my classmates and I organized a graduation fashion show. We collaborated with local designer, Jen Su, and with her fashion label Spunk Punk Funk, we created a charity fashion show as part of our final project. Since it was the first time that we organized a fashion show ourselves, we were very excited and put in a lot of effort. Therefore, we had these unforgettable memories before our graduation.

I am blessed that I have met friends who will always be there for me and lecturers who always guided me to the right path. Being a fashion marketer is not that easy; it requires experience, knowledge and hard work. The fashion industry is tough; I have to be competitive to keep up. Things end, but memories lasts forever. These memories will never fade.

Since I was young, I’ve liked to doll up myself and have always had an interest in physical appearances. I would like to have my own label in future. So I decided to enrol in the fashion department of Raffles College of Higher Education. Since the first day I stepped into Raffles, I knew I would learn a lot of things and gain knowledge which I wouldn’t able to get from other colleges. The lecturers were AWESOME, they taught us far more than what we were supposed to learn. It has been a memorable college life. Here’s wishing everyone in Raffles has a great and brighter future!

Fashion has been my obsession since I was young. However, unlike others who want to be fashion designers, I set myself the goal of being a fashion marketer. I love to make the clothing be more precious, and develop a strong brand name that all fashion lovers dream about. I choose Raffles Merchandising Institute, majoring in Fashion Marketing & Management to build my foundation. In my opinion, art school is always less restrictive than other universities, not in terms of rules but in the way they give me the best environment to unleash my creativity and personal ability. I love the way my lecturers force me to think outside the box and remind me about time management. To date, teamwork remains the hardest challenge that I need to learn to conquer.

The first time I stepped into Raffles, I totally had no interest in fashion. As much as I loved to dress myself up, I didn’t know anything about fashion. I was just a greenhorn trying to discover what I could do in future. The modules in Raffles engaged my interest and I learned more than what mere textbooks could provide. Slowly, I realised that fashion had become part of my life. I found my own distinctive style and dressing up makes me feel good. I’ve learned to be different, be special, as there’s only one me.

Pursuing a fashion career has been my dream since childhood, and going to Raffles Design Institute has brought me closer to achieving my goal. I didn’t grow up already knowing that I was going to work in fashion. However, I have always been stirred by the idea of how we are shaped, by those who positioned fashion as a state of living and our surroundings. At Raffles Merchandising Institute, these get as real as they could be and they have become my daily demands to spy on. I didn’t just read or write about fashion, I’ve had to work on them too; doing so gave me the greatest possible degree of enlightenment. By grace, I got the opportunity to work with Harper’s BAZAAR Singapore for my internship, where I witnessed and discovered what went on behind the scenes in the publishing industry. For my final marketing project, my team created a monthly online culture-oriented fashion magazine and multi-label e-tailer, named WWonders, that scours the world for young, emerging, independent designer labels.

Two years ago when I first set foot in Raffles, I was full of dreams. As I started my studies, I realized that life is a series of lessons. There were good times that taught me the beauty of life, and bad times that made me a tougher person. I have learned the true meaning of responsibility to my school and to the people who have given me financial support and boosted my morale. Meeting people of various nationalities has also helped me understand different cultures and develop a well-rounded personality.
