APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY Dear Colleagues ( I can confidently call you “colleagues” now), It was a true pleasure for the entire Psychology team to work with you as you had high level of dedication and curiosity, worked hard, and strived for success. We were teaching you psychology while you were teaching us to look at psychology from a new perspective, and to ask non-trivial questions. Thus, here is a piece of advice: rely on intrinsic motivation, be creative, improve communication skills, avoid biases and heuristics in your judgements, remember that stress and conflict have positive sides, and under no circumstances fall the victim of learned helplessness. Let everything you’ve studied be a solid basis and investment to your great career achievements; keep reading psychology books, articles and networking with other psychologist to make this investment work. One day each of you will make us proud of being your teachers.

AMANDA ONG HUI ZHONG amandaong@raffles-psych.com [65] 93462019 I was a diploma holder when I joined Raffles College of Higher Education. At first, I faced some difficulties, like having to sideline all knowledge from my first diploma, in order to process psychology-related texts. I lost focus, zoned out during lectures, and kept mostly to myself during the first few terms. In a sense, I saw it as just another normal and boring course at a school. Three years on, I am now equipped with knowledge that helps in my current line of work. I also have a healthy teacher-student relationship with my lecturers (past and present) who have guided me throughout. I am also part of a group of fun-loving classmates who have been through many events together, be it assignments, exams or presentations (both local and overseas). It has been a great journey so far, and I thank everyone for that.

They have helped me a lot, from daily schoolwork to charting my future direction. In RCHE, I also got the chance to know more people, not only my classmates but also people from our internship. Besides attaining knowledge in my field of study, I’ve also received other forms of knowledge that could not be attained elsewhere. My lecturers and friends are awesome. They are the reason for my wonderful journey in Raffles, especially when the going gets tough, due to the pressing assignments deadlines. My classmates and I would not sleep for few days just to meet the deadline of our assignments, and would pester our lecturers for suggestions and tips. My friends and lecturers were supportive and never once gave up. This is the Raffles spirit and this learning journey in Raffles and has made a big impact in my life.

RCHE has gone through a major ‘restructuring’; from changing lecturers, to frequent changes in student services and a new academic structure. But choosing to be in RCHE is not disappointing. I’m grateful to be taught by two wonderful lecturers; Dr Monica Walet and Dr Anna Leybina, who stayed throughout my graduating years. Not forgetting, the other lecturers who have made my interest in Psychology grow. And in these 5 years, the best moment is to meet new people and building unexpected friendships. My journey with RCHE has finally ended and I will miss every moment I have as a student.

VANESSA EMILY QUEK vanessaquek@raffles-psych.com [65] 90914382 From the first day as a student at Raffles College of Higher Education, I was instantly welcomed by virtually everyone I met; faculty, staff, and students. During my time as a student at Raffles, I was also working full time as an Editor for an online fashion magazine and all the professors and student faculties understood the demands of my job and worked to help me reach my full potential. Besides the lectures from my Psychology modules being always interesting, challenging, and informative, the professors were amazing. I am blessed to have been thought by teachers like Dr Anna Leybina, Dr Carlin Lee, & Dr Monica Walet who have always offered 100% of themselves in class to ensure our understanding of topics and were always available to offer encouragement and advice whenever we needed it. I would also like to thank the education consultant, Ms Chew Zhi Qi (ZK) from the Sales & Marketing Department, for all her assistance in making my transition and journey as a student at Raffles College a smooth one and for all her unwavering patience with me.
