TRAVEL LUGGAGE FOR Professionals One of the projects done
with
Mozaic Designs, Goa
as a project trainee
To design a travel bag for metropolitan professionals, which would serve for 2-3 over night journey. The product should allow the user to be organised. The travel bag is intended to be designed in a way that the user does not miss to carry the necessary.
ANALYSIS After analysing the market and involving the user in giving their views, we came to know even though the existing suitcases addresses a lot of different problems, nothing allows the user to be organised and remind the necessary things to be packed. Addressing this common problem of all travellers combined with good aesthetics and ergonomics would be a good selling point for this luggage bag.
CONCEPT With the human body in mind, the luggage bag has been divided into two parts. The right side is upper body (head, body, hips) and the left side is lower body (bottom, legs, foot). Before accessing the packing space there is a fabric on which there are signs printed to aid the user to pack the necessary without fail.

FEET
MANBAG This concept here is to make user packing experience intuitive and interactive. The luggage bag when open completely, looks like a human standing up right. This is intended to help the users, place their belongings in the respective part of the body it is worn or held in. eg: ( The tie is hanging from the neck of the luggage bag ). This would help to verify if you have packed all your belongings.
Scope for improvement. At this stage, the question was “how to capture the user’s attention?” The challenge here was to retain the soul of the concept and yet apply it in a subtle manner.
FINAL DESIGN This cabin sized luggage bag has a touch screen gadget attached to it. Enter the destination and the purpose of the journey, there appears a check list. The gadget has a finger print access or password protection to remove it from the suitcase. The gadget can be used for official data carrying and transferring purpose and for entertainment during waiting periods. The luggage bag would thus systematize the travel.

THE BUS STOP Class room project ‘Universal Design’ Duration: 2 weeks A Team work with Neeraja BS
Universal design refers to broad-spectrum ideas meant to produce buildings, products and environment that are inherently accessible to both people without disabilities and people who are differently abled. The term “Universal design” was coined to describe the concept of designing all products and the built environment to be aesthetic and usable to the greatest extent possible by everyone, regardless of their age, ability, or status in life. The challenge here is to make a Bus stop inclusive of these factors.
Concept Ideas were put together to create a concept that would solve the problems of passengers and for a convenient waiting period at the bus stop.

Platform raised to the level of the bus entry
Railings to guide passengers
For the comfort purpose. The bus stop has elevated platform and diagonal seating thus reduceing crowd accumulation on the roads therefore making it convenient for other motorists. The diagonal seating helps passengers view the incoming bus as it is angled towards the direction of the traffic movement. It also accommodates more number of seating.

Final Design Visually impaired passengers can use the audio feedback to learn about the bus route and timings. Considering the Indian scenario , the design also provides two commercial spaces attached to the bus stop which can be rented. The bus stop is not just a passenger waiting spot but also a space for socialization for students, women and aged.
FLASH Bug zapper Class room project ‘TCP’ Duration: 4 weeks
Pest-o-flash works fine as a product, but it can be improved on basis of the way it looks, smell and sound it makes. Also the dead insects are visible to human eyes. The product can do well in the market when given a better details and good aesthetic feel.
Concept Here the form of the product follows function. The upper part of the product is narrow than lower part of the product. This form is in such a way that insects cannot fall off on the floor.
Existing product
Details in exploded view.
Final Design As the bottom unit can be removed wherein all the insects gets collected, it can disposed and kept clean. The insects would not be seen as the grid is on the other side and is closed. It could be made out of both sheet metal or plastic. A brush is provided to clean the electrical grid.
THE BARN OWL Class room project ‘Nature and form’ Duration: 3 weeks
It is an advanced form course where we understand different aspects of nature and apply it in design. We are to study and get inspired by a nature’s creation and develop a 3D form.
Considering the Barn owl is a nocturnal bird, I took this as an inspiration to abstract it into a street light as well as a Table lamp.

Tube Wraps One of the projects done Goa as a project trainee
with
Mozaic Designs,
The aim is to make an attachment to the tube lights that would enhance its lighting effects producing a colourful environment. An effective alternative to fancy lighting that is a burden to our pockets which is also simple to handle. Could be used in office, school, home, parties etc.
This envelopes the diameter of the tube light and collapses sideways.
Its geometrical pattern makes it hold onto a tube as well as collapse it into a square.
Has circular mouth at regular intervals holding it on the tube light and is collapsible.
