India is known as the ‘Spice Bowl’ of the world. It produces a number of quality, rare and medicinal spices. With an aim to open up newer opportunities to promote international trade of Indian spices, the 14th edition of the World Spice Congress (WSC), is to be held in Mumbai from 16-18 February 2023.
D Sathiyan, Secretary, Spices Board, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, stated that this edition of the WSC is special because it coincides with India ’s G20 presidency. He was speaking at the curtain-raiser press conference held in Mumbai. He further said that it will provide a platform for the stakeholders to discuss the industry ’ s current trends after COVID-19 and chart out a way forward. The event, organised to create a platform not only for traders but also policy regulators, will have special business sessions dedicated to promoting spice trade among the G20 countries. Policy makers, regulatory authorities, spice trade associations, government officials as well as technical experts from key G20 countries will participate in the event, informed Shri. Sathiyan. The theme of the WSC 2023 is VISION 2030: S-P-IC-E-S (Sustainability, Productivity, Innovation, Collaboration, Excellence and Safety).
Speaking about choosing Maharashtra as the venue for the WSC, Shri. Sathiyan said, “Maharashtra is a one of the leading states producing spices. It is the largest producer of turmeric in India. Maharashtra produces two GI tagged turmeric varieties and one GI tagged chilli variety. Coastal areas of Maharashtra are also known for production of GI tagged Kokum. The state is one of the largest exporting hubs for spices.” Providing details of the events planned for the Congress, Mr. Sathiyan said that, Shri Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry and Smt. Anupriya Patel, Minister of the State, Ministry of Commerce and Industry have consented to grace the WSC 2023, to be held at the CIDCO International Convention Centre, Navi Mumbai. Shri Piyush Goyal will also distribute the trophies and Awards for Excellence in Exports of Spices on 17th February 2023.
While elaborating on the spice trade in India, Shri Sathiyan said that during 2022-23, there has been an increased demand for certain spices, especially the seed spices including cumin, fenugreek, Bishop ’ s weed (Ajwain), Dill, Poppy, Aniseed, Mustard and others. Garlic has registered an increase of 170% in quantity during April-October 2022 compared to the same period last year. Some other spices such as Saffron, which had a bumper crop in the current season, Asafoetida, Cinnamon and Cassia also show a positive trend. Value added products derived from spices such as curry powder also show a positive trend. A majority of the spice trade in India takes place during the last quarter of the year and the Indian spice industry is looking forward to an increased export of spices during January -March 2023, which is expected to take the total exports towards the USD 4 billion mark. The WSC 2023 will provide a platform to further explore diverse possibilities in this area.

’s WSC 2023, supported by the Government of India, is expected to be bigger and far more diverse compared to previous editions and will have special state pavilions and commodity pavilions. The event will provide an opportunity for the spice fraternity to meet and promote Indian brands before a bigger global audience.
Informa achieves top global ranking in Media Sector in leading ESG Index

ITPO holds its 45th AGM
The 45th Annual General eeting of India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) was held on December 20, 2022 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. Members of ITPO’s Board, including senior officials from Ministry of Commerce & Industry, were present on the occasion.
While addressing the AGM, Shri Pradeep Singh Kharola, CMD mentioned that the total income has increased to Rs. 79.17 Cr during the year 2021-22 as compared to Rs. 50.30 Cr in the previous year and ITPO could manage to reduce losses to Rs. 56.30 Cr compared to previous year loss of Rs. 84.14 Cr. During the year IITF 2021 was held in spite of very short notice. During the year an important event i.e. Inauguration of Pragati Maidan Tunnel and New Halls 2-5 which are part of mega IECC project was held in October 2021 by Hon ’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
CMD ITPO also mentioned that the year 2022-23 will be a normal year from earning point of view as ITPO is back to normalcy and we could hold IITF 2022 in large scale in November 2022 where around 10 lakh people visited Pragati Maidan.
Mentioning the challenges and the task ahead to make ready the Iconic Convention Centre for G-20 Summit, Shri Kharola sought special cooperation from all stakeholders to execute the mission and acknowledged the cooperation and support by various Ministries, Departments and Stakeholders to ITPO.
LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA provides fillip to the Indian manufacturing through its 2022 edition
The 10th edition of LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA concluded on a high note with implementable solutions for use of lasers, photonics and optical technologies in various applications for Indian manufacturing industry. The show reinforced its credibility as ‘India ’ s platform for laser and optical technologies – components, systems and applications.
Through strong partnerships with the industry through industry associations – LIAI, ILA, SPECTARIS, OSI and AMSI, the event focused on creating a clear roadmap for Industry 4.0 and producing world class products from India by offering cost effective solutions for use of lasers and photonics, optical technologies, 3D printing and additive manufacturing for various industry applications.
Regarding the excellent response to the tradeshow, Dr. Lalit Kumar, President, Laser Industries Association of India (LIAI), said “We received encouraging response for this latest edition of the trade show. Today, laser technology is critical to many industries, ranging from medicine and diagnostics to gems and jewellery and even manufacturing of automotives and electronics. What happens in the laser and photonics industry impacts the entire economy through manufacturing output. Hence, we are receiving interest from multiple user industries and that is reflected through the footfalls at this trade show. This has become an unmissable event for our industry.
One of the major highlights of the 2022 edition was the industryacademia partnership through IEEE Photonics Society, IEEE Bombay Section at IIT Bombay in the form of Photonics and Lasers – Industry Meet (PLAIM), which brought together global experts and researchers to deliberate on emerging trends, opportunities, challenges confronting the industry and the need for boost innovation and R&D by enabling commercialization of technologies developed by the leading researchers in the country. The platform also presented 15 students with an opportunity to showcase their ideas and innovations at the poster zone.
Speaking at the meet, Prof. Venu Gopal Achanta, Director of National Physics Laboratory said, “There is tremendous potential in laser technologies but their commercial prospects as well as challenges need to be deliberated upon. This trade show offers the platform to discuss the emerging applications and solutions for mutual growth. Photonics and Lasers Academia Industry Meet (PLAIM) has emerged as the right platform to forge industry-academia partnerships and work towards the common goal of shared prosperity for the country.
Another special highlight was the launch of a new laser source by IFA associated with SLTL group. “SLTL’ s focus has always been on Make in India initiative and we are happy to share that we have launched our new IFA Laser source in LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA 2022. We have always believed that India must have its own fundamental laser source, which is important for the country and with this ambition our Lasers was born. 5th Indian Aerosols Expo 2023 to be organised from 20 to 21 Feb at Pragati Maidan, Delhi India
The 5th edition of Indian Aerosols Expo - India's only trade show dedicated to the Aerosol spray industry – shall be held from 20th to 21st Feb 2023 at Pragati Maidan, Delhi. With 75 new models on display, Auto Expo 2023 Kicks off: Electric Vehicles Dominate
The Auto Expo 2023, being held at the Expo Mart in Greater Noida, has created a buzz not only in NCR but across the country. In new age cars, exhibited at the expo, makers have taken full care of modern technology as well as safety. This year, a completely seperate pavilion has been set up for electric vehicles and vehicles running on natural fuel, which is attracting a huge crowd.
More than 50,000 people visited the expo on Day 1. It is being estimated that on Sundays, this number can reach beyond 1 lakh. People are curious to see the vehicles of future and also want to know which vehicles they will be able to use in the coming future, which have state-of-the-art facilities.
Started on January 11, the 16th edition of the Auto Expo has been officially open for the general public from 11:00 a.m. Saturday. The ticket for the expo is costing Rs 475. In the Auto Expo, which is being held after three years, well-known automobile companies of the country and abroad are launching their products. A total of 75 products will be launched at the fair. These will include new cars as well as future works. Coming back after 3 years, automobile companies are showcasing future technology and upcoming models. Among these companies, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors, Kia India, Toyota, Kirloskar and MG Motor India are leading one. Thirty vehicles have been launched on the first day of the Auto Expo. This time, more than half of the 75 vehicles being presented at the Auto Expo are electric vehicles and vehicles running on natural fuel.
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, who arrived at the formal inauguration of Auto Expo 2023, said that "the automobile sector has contributed a lot in the development of India. GDP was 2.77 per cent 8 years ago, now it has reached 6 per cent." "It is evident that the country's automobile industry growing and India is now at number three after leaving behind Japan. In the next 5 years, India will become the number one country in the world in the field of vehicle manufacturing. It is a bit difficult but not impossible.”
Heavy Industries Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey has said that "India has only one per cent of the world's vehicles and we account for 11 per cent of road accident deaths. There is a need to bring this down. The government is continuously working on this. Electric vehicles are expensive because of the high cost of batteries, but the day is not far when India will also become an exporter of batteries." He also said that the Automotive Research Association of India is constantly working on developing fast chargers for vehicles. "By 2024, there will be no shortage of charging stations and battery in the market. India will have 70,000 electric buses, 55,000 electric four-wheelers, over 40,000 electric three-wheelers and 1 million electric two-wheelers on the roads by next year.”
Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri has urged automobile manufacturers to move beyond the prototype stage and introduce green vehicles in the market. He said that now is the time for biofuels and other clean energy technologies. Puri also enquired about the new electric and natural fuel vehicles introduced in the vehicle exhibition at Auto Expo 2023. According to Puri, the target period of 20 per cent ethanol blending in India has been reduced from 2030 to 2024-25. He said that under a pilot project, ethanol will be made available at petrol pumps soon. Puri had inaugurated the Ethanol Pavilion at the expo.
Auto Expo 2023 – Components Show records highest-ever footfall of 122,500 visitors
Auto Expo 2023 – Components Show, organised jointly by Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), from January 12-15, closed yesterday with the highest-ever footfall of 1,22,500 business delegates from 65 countries.
The 16th edition of the allencompassing event, held at New Delhi’s Pragati Maidan, saw over 800 exhibitors from 15 countries and six country pavilions from France, Germany, Japan, Poland, South Korea and the UK, witness packed stalls with business visitors from India and overseas. The event created a lot of excitement amongst the visitors, who were busy with business meetings, networking, and forming new partnerships with Indian and global players present at the show.
Held on the overall theme of ‘Technovation – Global Platform for Future Technologies & Innovation’, Auto Expo 2023 – Components Show set the tone for future areas for innovation for India’s automotive component industry. There were more than 1,400 new products on display, many of them addressing industry megatrends including vehicle electrification, reaffirming industry’s commitment to India’s plan for transforming into a sustainable and green future mobility. Some of the innovations and futuristic products on display included
low weight tailgate and sunroof; tyre changing attachment for EVs; energy efficient power control units; nanocatalyst for coating CDPF; friction motor cooling system; semi-solid lithium-ion cell; on-board charger; digital twin benchmarking, Delta costing and Iceberg 3.0; PVC fabric tarpaulin and LSR components for EVs.
Commenting on the event, Sunjay Kapur, President, ACMA said: “Auto Expo Components has grown to be a major event showcasing India's engineering & manufacturing capabilities. ACMA is the apex Indian industry body representing the interest of over 800 automotive component manufacturers who contribute to more than 85% of the industry’s turnover in the organised sector. The automotive value chain, which spans across different geographies of the country, is a large, integrated and complex network of OEMs and suppliers. Today, it contributes 6% of the country's national GDP, 49% of the national manufacturing GDP and is responsible for over 30 million jobs. The auto component industry is dominated by SMEs which are the key drivers of India’s economic growth and the ‘Make in India’ program.
