rofessionally trained chef and local food guru Emma Galloway published her first cookbook My Darling Lemon Thyme in April 2014 and her second book A Year In my Real Food Kitchen was published April 2016. Emma now has her third cookbook Every Day on the shelves and the Local Rag caught up with Emma to hear about her food journey so far. What year did you start your blog? What inspired the blog? I started mydarlinglemonthyme.com in July 2010, back when there were only a small handful of food bloggers here in NZ and most people had no idea what a blog was (crazy to think of nowadays with everyone writing a blog of some sort). I was inspired to start it after coming across US food blogger and author Heidi Swanson. I had borrowed her first cookbook from the Raglan library and it was after I’d poured over her site that it occurred to me that this was a way in which I too could share my crazy obsession with food. I had no idea what I was doing to begin with (it was only family and friends reading it in those first few weeks and months) but over time I taught myself how to style and photograph my recipes, which I shared weekly back then. 3 years later I began writing, styling and photographing my first cookbook.

In April you launched My Darling Lemon Thyme, Every Day. How long had you worked on the book and in what time period?

Can you describe the creative process to produce the recipes? What does a typical day look like for you when you are working on a book?

I wrote, tested and re-tested recipes, styled and photographed the book in 6 months, starting in January 2020. A large portion of the book was created during level four lockdown and while I already had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted this book to be, the situation we all found ourselves in definitely reinforced those ideas.

I feel like I possibly don’t approach book writing in the most efficient way, often re-doing work over and over until I’m happy with it! But my rough creative process begins with jotting down chapter ideas, so I have an idea of the overall layout and feel. Then within each chapter I brainstorm recipe ideas, many of which go no further than that initial stage (for all sorts of different reasons such as the flavours actually just didn’t work like I thought they would in my head, or for this book, if recipes ended up taking too long to make, or required fiddly steps or trips to speciality food stores to source ingredients, they got the cut). I then write down a rough ingredients list and method I plan to follow when recipe testing. Next I test. If I’m happy with it, I will test once or twice more to make sure before I style and photograph it. If I’m not 100% happy with the recipe, I’ll decide at that point if it has potential, in which case I will tweak and test the recipe until I’m happy, or I discard that idea and move onto the next. In a lot of ways it’s really full on doing the job of 3-5 people myself with the recipe writing, styling, photography and editing, but in lots of other ways it’s so much easier (and it’s the only way I know) as I can just cook and shoot each recipe as I work through the book.

Is there a particular theme of the publication? This book focuses on everyday recipes, as the title suggests. They’re recipes that use everyday ingredients to create nourishing, achievable and flavour-packed meals that just happen to be vegetarian, gluten-free and largely dairy-free because that’s how I eat. The book spans the entire day, from Breakfast ideas, Junk-free Snacks and Baking, to not one, but three chapters on easy everyday dinner ideas and of course, a few quick and easy dessert recipes to finish off with. I’ve also shared tons of ideas on Waste-free Cooking, giving tips and tricks I use in my own kitchen to lessen food waste and cook smarter. Dotted throughout my everyday recipes, you’ll also find my base or ‘anything’ recipes, that encourage the reader to use whatever ingredients are in the kitchen, garden or in season.

Authors who don’t take the photos generally have a 1-2 week period where they have to cook all the recipes for the photographer to shoot, which sounds super stressful to me!

my ideas. I think, well I hope, that this translates to a super user-friendly, honest and realistic cookbook, that people will use all the time in their everyday lives.

How does your ongoing blog work with/influence the book?

What is happening for you for the remainder of 2021? How do you go about promoting your new book?

Having my blog (and presence on social media) provides immediate feedback as well as dialogue with readers, which definitely helps to influence what I share in my books. It was all the messages and emails I’ve received over the years from people struggling to provide quick, nourishing and tasty recipes for themselves and their families that was one of the main pushes to create this new book. You grew up in Whaingaroa Emma. How do you think this has influenced you and your work? My upbringing here in Whaingaroa, surrounded by nature and with parents who grew most of what we ate on our large organic property on Hills Rd is where my love for good food, gardening and cooking stems from, 100%. Is your family involved in the process? Only in the eating side of things! And the occasional hand modelling for photos, although they all hate doing that, so I have to be adaptable and work with whoever is the least resistant on the day, lol. And what about the creative aspect of pulling the book together. Your images are beautiful. Who helps you? Thank you. I take all the photos myself. As a self-taught photographer this is the part of the process I feel least confident about. I try not to over complicate things, especially with my styling, one: because I simply don’t have the luxury of time when it’s only me doing everything, and two: because I want the food to be presented how the reader would see it when they make it. I purposely left off garnishes and simply photographed the plate or bowl of food as I would serve it up at home. I know most people aren’t going to go out and buy different herbs or whatever, just to sprinkle on top. Sure, it’s delicious, but if you don’t have it, it’s not going to wreck the recipe, you know? 2020 was obviously a disrupted year. What effect did it have on your plans and creativity? Yeah I definitely didn’t envisage having to write a good chunk of this book with my family all at home, every day and being unable to stop by the supermarket every morning to pick up supplies for the day, which is what I’d usually do while writing my books. But as I mentioned before, I think this only benefited this book. It forced me to consider each and every ingredient and process for each recipe and I was constantly simplifying and streamlining

I’ve had a couple of book launches, both here in Raglan and at Little Bird in Auckland which were both super successful, awesome, exhausting and lots of fun. Mostly promotion is done online and via magazines, newspapers and social media, but I am also hoping to organise a couple of cooking classes around the country later this year too, to share my book and also just experience that kind of in-person magic that simply can’t happen online. What do you do for interest and learning away from the kitchen? I spend a lot of time in my garden, both growing vegetables to feed my family and more recently trying my hand at growing a few flowers to cut, which I’m totally obsessed with. I’m also often found walking between Wainamu and Ngarunui beaches, usually listening to a podcast or daydreaming about life. I’m sure you have some people to acknowledge and thank for a project like this… Yeah for sure. I create my books at home, often with only my cat (or kids) by my side, but while the creating side of things is a solo affair, of course I have a team of supporters behind the scenes, cheering me on. I couldn’t be more grateful for each and every one of them. Firstly to my husband Si and kids, Ada and Kye, who are the most honest food critics I know and great, albeit reluctant, hand models. Rachel + Greg for looking after Ada as often as they did while I was busy working on this book, and to my sister Jess for often having Kye. My friends, whose love and support is always there. Molly McCabe from Honey Studios for making the little promo videos we’ve shared online and my friend Lottie Hedley for the photos she took of me in the garden, which have been used for promotion as well. My publishers Harper Collins, who I’ve worked with on all three books. rganic growth’s a term businesses toss about seemingly willy-nilly these days but for Raglan it’s long been a real thing, with an enterprising local couple having planted and grown commercially Whaingaroa’s very own line of organic produce from just before the new millennium. In fact Kaiwhenua Organics – which began small back in the late 1990s, selling from the garden gate at Whale Bay – went on to become the biggest producer of organic veggies in the Waikato. It’s gone now, a victim of recent circumstances beyond its control, but Raglan continues to be a force in organic produce thanks largely now to the flourishing Soul Food Farm five minutes out of town alongside the Raglan to Hamilton highway. Despite regretfully wrapping up Kaiwhenua Organics only last year because of the Covid-19 lockdown and wider family pressure to put the land to other uses, Kaiwaka Riki and his wife Lyn are proud to have helped lead the way in

turning organics into a household word here. The pair, after starting out as beneficiaries wanting simply to grow their own kai, instead succeeded in spades in what might be called a truly ground-breaking venture: they were not only growers and sellers for 21 years all up but along the way inspired hundreds of others to garden organically in their own backyards. “It was our passion,” Lyn recalls of a venture that earned Raglan national exposure through the likes of TVNZ’s ‘Country Calendar’ and Maori TV’s ‘Kai Time’. There was also the publication six years ago of a book entitled Kaiwhenua Organics, after their charitable trust of the same name. Lyn recalls the how-to book as just another avenue to “pass on our knowledge” – a practical guide detailing their tried-and-true organic practices, which closely followed Maori tradition. Kaiwaka laughs now at how a chance meeting with local Vinnies owner and chef Colin Chung – “a good mate of

mine” – first set them on the pathway to commercial success. “I will buy whatever you can give us,” Colin told Kaiwaka back in 1999 as he spied him about town handing out his home-grown veges. So the couple got to work in earnest, rehabilitating eight hectares of ancestral land on which Kaiwaka remembers his grandfather growing potatoes. True to his word, Colin bought up large for what was then Raglan’s first real cafe. As Kaiwaka remembers it, “we’d make $10,000 a month out of (selling to) Colin”. Kaiwhenua Organics grew from there to supplying the Four Square supermarket – better known then simply as Petchell’s – followed by various new cafes and more recently SuperValue Raglan as Whaingaroa developed from sleepy seaside town to vibrant ecoconscious community. Kaiwhenua was only the second market garden in New Zealand to be certified (in the early 2000s) by Te Waka Kai Ora, the national Maori organics authority of Aotearoa. As such it also became a focal point for agencies like

“We worked with Corrections for 15 years,” Lyn explains of the PD (periodic detention) workers, most of whom never returned or reoffended and ultimately ended up doing gardens themselves.

The pair of them also travelled over the years to various marae and kohanga reo – typically with a van-load or two of seedlings and raised beds to give away – in their efforts to get community gardens started and as many people as possible growing organically.

The Covid lockdown a year ago, however, suddenly left Kylie and Eddie with no businesses to sell to … so they changed tack and started their own website from which to take orders and begin home deliveries. Months later they moved Soul Food Farm from its leased plot in Okete Rd to a “perfect” flat property alongside SH23..

There, they have a full three hectares of workable land to keep them busy. “Mondays are our big harvest days,” Kylie packing fresh veggie boxes, then loading up the website ready for online orders which she delivers on Tuesdays and Fridays. The original cafes are now back on board, more (customers) to buy off the website now,” she says, “and we’re also looking at getting a couple of retail outlets in town.” Kylie and Eddie are convinced the “locality and the localism of our food” is the key, rather than having to truck their organic produce over the divvy. Kaiwhenua Organics may be no more but Raglan retains quite a reputation as a supplier of fresh organic produce and a place where it’s easy to eat healthily.

aglan Art to Wear is ready to wow audience once again in a catwalk extravaganza at the Raglan Town Hall. All entrants will present their piece to a live audience on Saturday, June 5 at 2pm, Saturday, June 5 at 7pm with the adult awards presentation, and Sunday, June 6 at 2pm with the children’s awards presentation. Event organiser Jean Carbon says the popularity of the biennial show has increased since its inception 20 years ago and she is always blown away by the creativity of the entrants. “The costumes have really developed over the years,” she says. The idea for the competition came to life from a conversation between well-known textile artist Yanny Split and Jean after a Susan Flight summer school Shiibori tiedye workshop in 1996.

“We had a fashion parade after the workshop and she (Yanny) said this is yours now to take and grow,” Jean says. Jean was working as a fabric technology teacher in Hamilton at the time and she set a design challenge every year for her students to enter various fashion competitions running at the time. After completing a fashion degree in 2000, Jean began gathering a team of keen creatives to help get the inaugural show up-and-running. It was an easy transition for Jean to take what she knew already as a fabric teacher and fashion designer, and begin developing a Raglan Art to Wear competition. With the help of Patti Mitchley, Margot Gillard and Penny Knuiman the first show came to life in 2000. Jean says many of the local talent have come back time and time again, with many starting in kindergarten and continuing into adulthood.

“I bumped into Amber Hood in Wellington and she started when she was at Matapihi. She’s now studying architecture and she said how much she loved doing the show and wished she still could.” The show has inspired all ages from the youngsters at kindy to the elder generation at Raglan Trust Hospital who also entered one year. “Some amazing groups have got together to create some amazing outfits,” Jean says. The organising team have a great time coming up with the different categories for each new show and are especially enthralled by how the entrants interpret the brief. “People who have been doing it for a while will grasp a theme and stretch it further than we could ever have imagined,” Jean says. This year the themes include Colour Spice of Life, Lost at Sea, Art to Life, Carbon Neutral –

Kaitiakitanga and It’s in the Bag mystery box. Jean reckons sometimes it’s the simplest designs that are the most effective and the five weeks it takes to pull a mystery box design together can be a winning formula for some. In 2018, Annick Faubert and Candide Lecourtois took out the Supreme Award with their quickfire, mystery box entry. hey’re kick-boxing buddies but that’s not the only way they’re striking a blow. Tia Ngarimu and Sheryn Mills are also Raglan builders’ apprentices – donning tool belts each day and working on site alongside the men. “This is the best job I’ve ever had,” Tia told the Chronicle, having pretty much done cafe and cleaning work before Carl Thomas of Chops Contracting Ltd took her on six months ago. “It’s way better working outside,” added the 19 year old. And she’s unfazed at being a lone female amid the blokes and lads, pointing out that “I do pighunting and surfing so I’m used to it”. Carl reckons all the “subbies” (subcontractors) rave about how good Tia is, and not because she’s female but because she’s all go. “Tia doesn’t stop working.” Likewise, Matt Russell of Dovetail Carpentry is happy to have Sheryn on the job. Although female builders are few and far between, he says, they bring a different energy to the worksite. “It’s good to see things changing.” The two “tradie ladies”, as they’ve been dubbed, met at Raglan’s twiceweekly kick-boxing classes downtown and are now firm friends. Sheryn’s currently working on a “nifty” build off Government Rd that features “really nice exposed trusses” made by local furniture designer Markus Kunath of Crafty Cuts, while Tia’s on her first house build – a large yurt with a central skydome – taking shape down the far end of Point St. She’s previously worked on decks and retaining walls at typically steep sites demanding lots of fetch-and-carry type physicality, lugging tools and pallets up and down multiple times a day. “I got fit as,” she laughs. Tia finds working on the yurt especially interesting even though she’s “never done a normal square house”. The yurt’s really complicated, she says, with a sub-frame that looks like a spider’s web and requires fine attention to detail to bring it together. She’s fascinated to see how it all goes up. But the yurt’s actually a first for everyone on site, so her workmates reckon she’ll think normal builds are easy after this. Tia’s father is a builder and roofer in Whitianga, from which she left to do year 13 at Raglan Surfing Academy. “Me and my Dad can build a house (together) one day,” she dreams, marvelling at how

the past half-year’s work has changed her perspective on roofs, decks, the whole shebang. “You learn such a lot (on site),” says the gutsy teen, who’s just started doing the theory side of things through the Wintec apprenticeship programme. Sheryn, by contrast, is now three years into her apprenticeship. She has another year or so to go although reckons it might be quicker “if I work my arse off”. But she’s already a busy lady. At 27 Sheryn’s not only mum to two girls, aged 10 and four, but also the sole breadwinner at the moment while her partner does further study. Throw in a few extra tasks like the Apprentice Challenge for carpenters she did in Hamilton one full-on Saturday last month, or the local tool library’s Wahine Workshop she all but ran single-handedly another Saturday back in February, and there’s hardly a minute to spare. Sheryn dreams of one day building their own tiny house, which is why carpentry is her chosen trade. She reckons her boss Matt’s also been very supportive over the past two years in terms of “life things, kid things”. “Maybe it’s the Raglan vibe,” Sheryn says, but it wasn’t quite so comfortable on the job previously in Hamilton, where she felt a bit undermined.

She admits that, as a woman working in a predominantly man’s world, you need to have tough skin. On the plus side however, she’s “grown” so much through her work. “Every day is challenging and takes a lot of strength, physical and mental,” she explains. And you’ve got to take care of your body, she reckons. “I do stretches and yoga.” Along with working as part of a team, Sheryn really likes the problem-solving side of building: for example, how to incorporate the old roof of the current build into the new roof. The end result can be very satisfying, she says.

It’s also satisfying when she can put her new skills to use at home. Her oldest daughter recently drew up plans for a new chicken coop on the family’s Maungatawhiri Rd lifestyle block, and the four of them spent Easter weekend building the enclosure to the youngster’s design. “I’m aware that I’m pushing myself (combining a very physical job and motherhood),” says Sheryn. “But ultimately it’s motivation for the girls to take their own initiative.”

treme Zero Waste Ltd has launched an exciting new project looking at construction and demolition waste in Raglan. Construction and Demolition makes up 50% of waste to landfill in Aotearoa, 95% of which could be reused or recycled. The team; Emma Martin, Rick Thorpe and Ian Mayes, Eco Building Advisor are working with local tradies, landowners and designers to rethink and reduce construction waste. “We hope to continue this conversation that many tradies are already having, and to support zero waste ambition with further containment systems and education.” Emma says. “We are running a series of workshops, audits of local building and demolition sites, waste stream research, and are producing a brochure with advice for the local building community”. Xtreme continues to refer to the Waste Hierarchy where Reduce and Reuse are steps above Recycle. In construction world this means: rethinking design, refusing non-recyclable materials, reducing the amount of materials on site, reusing over supply and offcuts and as a last option disposing of waste to appropriate disposal streams. HER BA L DISPENSA RY: FINDING A ND TR E ATING THE ROOT C AUSE

s naturopaths we aim to identify and treat the cause rather than treating your illness, we try to find what is underlying and remove any barriers that are preventing you from being well. Naturopaths use different methods to obtain this, a comprehensive health screening with questionnaires is often the basis and then they may use tools such as functional testing to try and pinpoint exactly what is going on. What is functional testing? The western medical establishment is disease-oriented, while the naturopathic model is wellness-oriented. When your traditional physician runs standard blood work, they are looking for an already established disease process e.g: hypothyroidism, high cholesterol, cancers, diabetes etc. The trouble with this is that many people might not have an actual disease, though they are still experiencing chronic symptoms already. Functional medicine lab testing aims to prevent disease before it happens by assessing patterns of imbalance that, without intervention, will end up yielding chronic disease. It looks between the lines. It assesses patterns of imbalance that can cause troublesome symptoms but has not become a ‘disease state’ yet. Not everyone needs to do a functional test though to improve their health. Some health problems are easy to understand and treat the cause, while others are not so straight forward

For example, a person can present with ongoing fatigue, lethargy, low concentration, mood issues, indigestion, nausea, gut issues. They may have already been to their doctor and had some standard blood tests and they have come back ‘normal’. They may have tried taking various natural health supplements for mood, energy and stress etc. but still find themselves in the same situation. They go to a naturopath who looks at the underlying cause. What could it be? Yeast overgrowth? Gut bacterial overgrowth? Parasites? Neurotransmitter issues? Low grade infection? Hormonal issues? Inflammation? Chemical toxicity? Mitochondrial dysfunction? This is where testing can give us a better idea of where to start. After a comprehensive health assessment, a naturopath may suggest a functional test which evaluates either blood, stool, urine or breath for specific biochemical markers. These are the top 5 functional tests that we use in the Raglan Herbal Dispensary clinic: • OAT (organic acid test). This tests for mitochondrial function, it is a metabolic snapshot of the body. It provides accurate evaluation of intestinal yeast and bacteria which can be associated with hyperactivity, fatigue and immune function. It also includes markers for vitamin and mineral levels, oxidative stress, neurotransmitter levels and oxalates, which are highly correlated with many chronic illnesses.

• DUTCH test (Dried urine test for comprehensive hormones) The most advanced and comprehensive testing for an overall hormonal health picture including adrenal, sleep and sex hormones and their metabolites. An excellent health assessment for complex hormonal conditions • GI 360: A stool test that tests for parasites, yeasts, viruses, digestive enzymes, inflammation, immunity within the gut plus microbial abundance (the balance of the bacteria that live in our gut) • Food Antigen testing: A blood draw that tests your antibodies against 88 different foods to determine food allergies, intolerances and inflammation caused by a substance. • SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) test. This is a breath test that can determine whether SIBO is present. SIBO is believed to be in 70% of people that suffer from IBS. WHY WE YOGA?

oga dates back to pre-Vedic Indian traditions and is now a global phenomenon. The question is: Why do we Yoga?

I spoke to Anna March, CoFounder of Raglan Yoga Loft, and asked her what aspect of Yoga practice she felt most drawn to. Anna suggests that beginner yoga speaks to the body, “As you progress Yoga stills the mind and becomes nourishment for the whole body, mind and soul, with them being inseparable”. It was injury that brought Diane Davies to Yoga, “At my first class I wanted to kill the teacher, I felt so unfit. I wanted to kill her so badly I went to see her more and more regularly.” Diane is now a Yoga teacher and is interested in weaving her former life as a counsellor with her yoga teaching. Another fascinating element about Yoga is that Yogi’s tend to have many years under their belt. It doesn’t seem to be something one gives up. Jocelyn-Rochelle Stewart, a teacher at The Loft Collective has been practicing Yoga for over twenty years, “Honing, it’s all about honing. The more I am yearning for the physical the more I am yearning for the spiritual, mudra, and devotional singing.” There seems to be no shelf-life on Yoga, in fact Yoga has been found to improve emotional wellness and exhaustion levels amongst elderly. Anna admits that Yoga teachers

don’t always know what’s best for everyone in the class. A problem she has identified is an East meets West expectation. For example, postures for one body type might not be ideal for another. In this light, the progression of the study of biomechanics is a useful avenue for understanding Yoga. Social scientists around the globe are becoming involved in quantifying the experience of Yoga as a therapy. However, Anna offers a simple approach we can all learn from, “listening to the wisdom of our body”, otherwise known as somatic flow, or Embodied Flow. I am a child & teen yoga teacher and an Early Childhood Teacher. Last year, during the Covid19 hygiene restrictions, with toys being sanitized and resources deemed unsafe, we found Yoga was our Base Camp. No resources were needed, we practiced indoors, outdoors, at our chairs! I found myself delivering yoga classes three times a day. All of us, students and teachers were able to escape reality, enter into the world of imagination whilst engaging our body in challenging postures. After this came Shavasana, a blessing, quietening of the classroom, quietening of the mind. I had anticipated these yoga classes to meet the needs of my 5year old students. However, I was wrong, it was the 3year olds that truly loved this time and would remain ‘on the mat’ for the duration. Yoga teachers are always learning, Yoga is always

evolving, yet the activity in essence has our species coming back for more, Century after Century. Reflecting on my own Yoga journey, I asked Diane if she felt that Yoga would have been beneficial as a teenager, “Yes, P.E. at school was always about doing something, however, with Yoga there is another possibility. Yoga provides a beautiful space where it’s not all about devices, you can forget about that.” I concur, as an adult who attends class, the switching off from my devices is a simple yet powerful first step in reaping the benefits of Yoga. Anna added to this reminding, “Yoga is about being comfortable in our own body. Breathing, reducing anger, noticing others. Noticing that others support you. That we mutually support each other. That everything is one. These things speak quite specifically to what teenagers deal with.” To reflect this, Raglan Yoga Loft offers reduced rates to children and teens. Anna admits that the monetizing of yoga is a challenge, and therefore reduced rates for young people is one way of accounting for this. Raglan is home to a plethora of sports people; bikers, hikers, surfers, sailors, skaters, Yogi’s, team-players, Pilatesers, dancers and climbers. Yoga is a discipline that connects many of these active pockets of people. The distribution of Raglan’s population to sports related activities is huge. But could we have more? Yes, why not, evidence proves we could all be reaping the benefits of Yoga. I asked Jocelyn if she had experienced any particularly strong relationships through Yoga, she replied, “Yes, but they probably don’t even know I exist, other teachers have given me so much”. This sentiment I connect with, it is difficult to give thanks to all of those who inspired me. I will never forget the brilliant rainy Wednesday night drop-in class in a surf village in Cornwall. Also, the Yoga for disabled class I went to, when I thought it was a pre-natal class. It is in these moments of trying something new that I have found gems of wisdom, kindness, and skill, shared by other teachers. Jocelyn also suggested that, “Yoga opens you up to meeting your tribe, if you have that yearning or curiosity within you.” It is impossible to separate out the variables of socialising, exercising, unplugging or meditation, to find what aspect of Yoga is so powerful in improving wellbeing. Dr Cabral and his team found that Yoga was effective as a less toxic adjunct treatment for severe mental illness. Iyengar yoga was shown to be a successful therapy for chronic lower back pain by Dr Williams and his team just two years prior. In 2020 a plethora of peer-reviewed medical papers were published sharing statistically significant findings of the effectiveness of yoga. So the question perhaps is not Why do we Yoga, instead, it’s Why Not?

The Chills are an iconic NZ band, and Martin (Phillipps, The Chills songwriter) is an absolute genius, it really will be an honour to play with them.’ Shirlow went on, ‘We’ve had a great time so far, playing shows with people who we look up to such as Paul Kean of The Bats and Hamish Kilgour of The Clean. These guys have seen and done it all in NZ and they gave us incredible feedback which really gave us a huge amount of encouragement

and confidence. More and more people seem to be finding us, not just here but even in the UK and Brooklyn, it’s just really exciting.’ Shirlow continued, ‘We are ready to go. The local, annual Whaingaroa Hoe is approaching! Hosted by the Whaingaroa Whānau Hoe Waka Club, this event is a celebration of Waka Ama (Outrigger Canoeing) on our beautiful harbour. We would like to advise that this event attracts paddlers from all over Aotearoa and we can expect up to 1000 paddlers, plus friends and whānau. Raglan Golf Club recently held a THANK the SPONSORS DAY in bright sunny conditions,at its Te Hutewai base. With over 50 sponsors in attendance the days programme of refreshments,lunch,9 hole golf and afternoon tea went down a treat! The day's purpose was for the club to express its thanks to the many sponsors who support the Raglan Golf Club as it continues to flourish in 2021.
