Reiki Ruawai is set to kick off his solo tour this Thursday at The Yard, debuting newly produced music that he’s been brewing up in the studio. Reiki is also known as the frontman of local band, Masaya, but will be showcasing his solo sound; a new generation of heavy R&B with ‘filthy kick and bass,’ during his mini-tour this Waitangi weekend.

With a couple of self-produced bangers already under his belt, including his laid-back debut single ‘Miller,’ - a summer surf anthem - and ‘Express,’ (a song that was written as a reflection on mental health among youth in Aotearoa) you can expect to hear some of these solo releases as well as new tracks during his upcoming shows.

Surrounded by musical influences from a young age and having picked up the guitar at the tender age of six, it’s safe to say that music runs through Reiki’s veins. In 2010, at age 10, he toured around Europe alongside his parents’ band, Cornerstone Roots, polishing his performances by being “thrown in the deep end at a young age.”

Reiki has recently been handpicked to be part of SongHubs UK/ Tāmaki Makaurau - a series of intensive songwriting camps bringing together APRA AMCOS (Australasian Performing Right Association Limited, Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society) members and renowned international songwriters and producers to create new hits.

Singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, Jordan Rakei, has selected this recent group of musicians to be part of SongHubs UK 2023. Reiki is set to join Muroki and 13 other artists to participate in the songwriting residency, which provides unique collaborative opportunities for both published and unpublished songwriters and composers, irrespective of genre.

Although Reiki has recently relocated to Auckland to pursue his music career he remains connected to Raglan through his parents, Brian and Naomi, who run local music café and venue, The Yard.

Catch Reiki Ruawai LIVE at The Yard Raglan, 7pm Thursday, Feb 2, 2023 or Morningside Live Block Party Auckland, 4pm Sunday, Feb 5, 2023.
