Top 16 Masterchef contestant Aaron Brunet at home in front of his pizza oven

SOD\HG WKH GDXJKWHU RI WKH FHQWUDO ÂżJXUH in  the  New  Zealand   mystery  thriller  series  â€˜This  Is  Not  My  Life’.   With  Ariana’s  drive  and  determination,  explained  Aaron,  the  least  he  could  do  was  take  up  a  challenge  he  felt  passionate  about  himself. The  whole  Brunet  family  obviously  love  a  good  challenge  as  Aaron’s  wife,   Ani,  is  currently  facing  an  even  â€œmore  dauntingâ€?  assignment  as  she  trains  up  for  the  100-kilometre  Oxfam  Trailwalker Â

event  down-country  in  April.  Aaron  told  the  Chronicle  he  enjoys  cooking  so  much  that,  with  his  daughter  into  her  teens,  he’d  love  now  to  work  with  food  as  a  main  occupation.  And  he’s  hoping  his  creations  under  the  glare  of  three  of  the  toughest  judges  in  the  culinary  world,  and  thousands  of  armchair  critics,  might  just  take  him  towards  that  goal.   Catch  MasterChef  New  Zealand  on  Sundays,  TV  One  at  7.30pm.  Edith  Symes

Aspiring  chef  Aaron  Brunet’s  got  more  reason  than  most  to  tune  into  the  telly  on  Sunday  nights:   it’s  a  chance  to  relive  his  recent  performances  as  a  contestant  on  a  top- rating  reality  show.  Two  episodes  in,  the  Raglan  42-year- ROGÂśV MXVW EHFRPH RQH RI ÂżQDOLVWV RQ MasterChef  New  Zealand’s  latest  series.   And  ZKLOH D FRQÂżGHQWLDOLW\ DJUHHPHQW SUHYHQWV him  letting  anything  out  of  the  bag,  Aaron  does  reveal  that  things  really  â€œstart  to  heat  upâ€?  from  here  on  in. Last  Sunday’s  episode  of  the  show  â€“  which  saw  eight  of  the  original  24  contestants  eliminated  â€“  had  some  â€œpretty  nerve-rackingâ€?  challenges  dished  up,  Aaron  admitted  this  week  from  his  Wainui  Road  home.  7KHUH ZHUH GHÂżQLWHO\ D IHZ VXUSULVHV LQ the  pressure-cooker  environment.  â€œYou’ve  got  no  idea  what  to  expect!â€?  he  said. Aaron  says  he  was  always  keen  on  the  kitchen  as  a  child  and  loved  helping  his  mother,  who  was  from  northern  Italy.   He  started  cooking  on  his  own  as  a  teen  but  QHYHU VHULRXVO\ WKRXJKW DERXW FKHIÂżQJ XQWLO a  decade  or  so  ago  when  daughter  Ariana  was  a  toddler. By  then  however  he  could  see  it  was  an  â€œunsociableâ€?  sort  of  job  for  a  family  man  like  himself. But  as  an  avid  fan  of  the  MasterChef  series  â€“  now  in  its  fourth  season  â€“  Aaron  jumped  at  the  chance  to  try  out  for  a  show  which  attracts  more  than  1000  home  cooks  each  year.  â€œWhat  have  I  got  to  lose?â€?  he  asked  himself.   And  having  applied  he  could  scarcely  bottle  out  as  he’d  seen  his  own  daughter,  now  13,  front  up  to  the  cameras  a  few  years  ago  when  as  a  child  actress  she Â
