The Wharf Gallery owner Sharon O'Brien and Wayne Morris - who with Hinemoa Rossi helped curate the first exhibition - show off Diana Peel's 'Cherry Blossom', priced at $5800.
An aptly named ‘The Wharf Gallery’ was the first to open, the old Raglan retro shop premises now a series of pristine white walls displaying art from around the country. The gallery celebrated its opening just under a fortnight ago with an evening of food and wine enjoyed by 70 or so art lovers. Proud owner Sharon O’Brien says her point of difference is to showcase “high-end” contemporary works from emergent through to established artists. She is insisting on showing and selling only original artwork. Included in the inaugural exhibition of works by 20-odd artists are pieces from Raglan’s Astrid Conjaerts Schepel, Lindsey Baker and Rick Youmans who, coincidentally, has his own art and design creative space next door. Hamilton-based Shirley Cresswell whose realist acrylic paintings often include Raglan scenes is also featured along with other artists from the Waikato, Auckland, Wellington and the South Island. Sharon intends to regularly show new works and to have solo exhibitions which, she points out, need to be organised a year in advance to give particular artists time to build up their current catalogues. She says supporting “young upand-coming” artists is also important to her. A successful businesswoman perhaps best known locally for establishing Whale Bay’s luxury Waoku Lodge, Sharon has a background in fine arts and is “always dabbling”. Back in the CBD, ‘La Petite Gallerie’ and ‘Artists at Work’ studio and gallery opened their doors within days of each other last week – one on Wainui Rd and the other across the road in Electric Ave. Laurie Kirby, a Raglan resident for 15 years, says the idea of having
her own little gallery came during Covid-19 lockdown when she had time on her hands so just kept on painting. “I had no more wall space in my home and friends were sick of getting my work,” she laughs. Then the onetime Scintilla boutique premises just along from The Shack came up for grabs. Now, with a striking set of french doors as its entranceway, ‘La Petite Gallerie’ boasts a range of Laurie’s big, bold, colourful artwork. The exhibition’s entitled – curiously – “untitled”. Her explanation? “I want the viewer to share the journey, to see the shapes and colours and create their own perceptions.” Though created from her imagination, the works are influenced by “the masters” Laurie loves, with hints of Picasso or US abstract impressionist Mark Rothko. Laurie has a design degree and a background as an interior designer who purchased and framed artwork for clients. Now she can paint, frame and exhibit for herself. She’ll share her gallery space with artist friends, without charging much commission. ‘La Petite Gallerie’ is after all more of a hobby, she says. By contrast ‘Artists at Work’ – which occupies the old Whaingaroa Organic Kai premises – is a space shared by well-established artists Jane Galloway and Marise Rarere, who until now have worked primarily from their homes and exhibited locally at the likes of Show Off Aotearoa. The duo will work from their combined studio and sell from its adjoining gallery, which is open on weekends and public holidays or by appointment. The gallery is also showing the works of fellow locals like Claudia Grutke, Lindsey Baker and Chris Meek, along with art from Auckland and Wellington. For Marise the move is a “longheld dream” which allows her to make some bigger works, while for Jane it underscores a recent change from realist painting to a more abstract style inspired by a “life-changing” online art course she completed during lockdown. The very best artistic talent that Raglan has to offer will be opening their studio doors and inviting you in to have a sneak peek into the creative process. There are 35 registered artists on the trail, including 9 new artists and visitors
will be spoilt for choice with a diverse and engaging range of media including stone sculpture, metal work, airbrushing, mosaic art, steel forgery, surfboard carving, ceramics, taxidermy, wood furniture, fine jewellery, digital fine art, painting and photography. Two new artists this year to keep an eye out for are photographer Paul Abbitt and painter Matt Meenagh. Paul’s photography

focuses on seascapes, but he will also be exhibiting, in his home studio in central Raglan, a beautiful collection which was 10 years in the making. It comprises photographs of junior rugby players in Cambridge as youngsters, and again as young adults, photographed in a way that captures their present passion. It aims to raise awareness of rugby as our national sport which is declining in youth numbers as children seek less physical sports. Matt Meenagh’s work can be described as psychedelic with a touch of retro. He is drawn to patterns found in nature and he finds his work to be emotionally charged, fuelled by his surroundings and his extensive overseas travels, as well as inspired by events unfolding around him. Visitors can see Matt’s work alongside two other RAW artists at the St Peter’s Church Hall on Bow Street. These are Geraldine Burns, a longstanding RAW artist and accomplished photographer who really conveys a sense of mood and rawness in her art, and Sarah Steed, one of Raglan’s most influential jewellery designers and also a past RAW participant with a love for stone, shape and metals. “It's been a hard, long slog for our artists, many who worked so hard to produce new collections for our Easter event which got postponed due to Covid, and who have had to keep coming up with the creative

goods for this event!” says Nicky Brzeska, RAW’s organiser and co-ordinator for the event. “It feels like locals and visitors alike are ready to get out and do something exciting and we’re always blown away by the support for our wee community.” Grab a brochure from one of the shops in town or the Old School and check out the trail and what's in store. At the Old School, you can get lots of info and see the RAW Preview Exhibition too. Most studios will be open 10am until 5pm for the three days, with some closing at 3pm. It's a self-guided tour where visitors can walk/bike/drive around at their leisure or get shuttled to the various artists by Raglan Shuttle who will be running an organised tour over the weekend. Artist rises from the ashes
R
aglan artist Gila Cohen is turning a lockdown disaster into an opportunity to celebrate her recovery, her art and the community that, she says, provided her strength in her darkest hour. Using the fire that destroyed her home and nearly took her life as her motivation, Gila is curating the artwork that survived the blaze for a solo exhibition at the Raglan Old School Arts Centre. “This is the first time I have ever exhibited on my own. I’ve been involved in group exhibitions but never on my own, she says. Running from November 4-22, the exhibition will feature work from all eras of her artistic journey; from her early days as an art student in Australia to her creative endeavours since the fire. What started out as night in the early weeks of lockdown with her bubblebuddy Arlene quietly watching DVDs ended in the fire that razed her home nearly to the ground. A film and television costume designer in a former life, Gila was a collector of vintage clothing; a Marlon Brando-style leather biker jacket she bought in the 1980s, shoes from 1845 are some of the objects that went up in flames. It was hard, she says, but she’s philosophical, “I don’t have the object anymore but I have the memories. I loved them when I had them. The fire started in an alcove in her bedroom when Gila turned on a wall
light to search for a DVD. She’s certain she turned off the light but thinks in her rush she may have not fully flicked the switch off. It took about an hour for some fabric that was brushed up against the light to ignite. By the time Gila and Arlene smelt the smoke, the fire was already a metre high. In their panic they tried to put it out and after about 15-minutes of trying to battle the blaze, Gila almost succumbed to exhaustion and smoke inhalation. “There was a moment when I thought – I’m just going to lay down and go to sleep. By this stage, the house was in darkness and the Arlene’s screams to get out, brought Gila back around. Built as a bach about 50-years ago, it had been the permanent residence of the retiree-owners before Gila bought it a year and a half ago. While the little bach might be gone, there’s still lots of the former owner’s memorabilia that survived, including a donsy of gnomes that were made by the husband and painted by the wife. “This was my first home. It was filled with many precious things that are irreplaceable and I felt a sense of guilt about not being able to look after the home for the people I bought it off. Those moments of melancholy are slowly easing as Gila comes to terms with the loss and finds strength and happiness in her new journey.
GRASS SILAGE
Gila's house burnt down during lockdown and she is holding an exhibition at old school in November.
Once the insurance business is all sorted, she is looking forward to a new home being built on the site. In the meantime, Gila is busy preparing for the exhibition which, she says, will help her let go of the old and make way for the new, and provide an opportunity to share her work. “I really felt held in this community and that gave me the strength to do the exhibition.
WE’VE GOT IT COVERED
Setting the reserve prices low for her older pieces, Gila hopes she can appeal to everybody’s budgets. “People ask me ‘what can we do to help’; coming to the exhibition, maybe buying a piece is a way they can help, she says. Janine Jackson Head to the Old School to check out Gila’s Open Door exhibition - opening and auction is Friday 6 November at 6pm. The Old School gallery is open for the exhibition Monday to Sunday, 10am-2pm.

couple of Saturdays ago the community was treated to a post-lockdown live performance event with an array of talented youth performing for the inaugural Whaingaroa Talent Factory competition. The amount of talent on display was impressive. Many of the performers commanded the stage with their presence and charisma, showing their creative depth with their original songs as well as their skills on various instruments. Performers showed maturity beyond their years through their confidence, skills and stage presence. Rangatahi performed to a packed Town Hall with some performers and their supporters travelling in from the wider Waikato.

The night was hosted by Neil Tolan of ex-Wiggles fame who provided vibrant commentary throughout the night. The event was also supported by Raglan Light and Sound as well as the Soundsplash team. Organiser Aaron Mooar from Raglan Community Radio said, “The judges found it incredibly difficult to pick the winners and the crowd was made to wait 30 minutes before they were announced. Despite the delay they all stuck around having been won over by the young performers earlier in the night.” “A lot of people have been asking if Whaingaroa Talent Factory will be returning next year. Given the quality of performances and fantastic support from the community the organisers are as keen as anyone to see it repeated.” He said.

Raglan Golf news: Club finals
S
enior finalists Silas Toonstra and Scott Klaver battled it out over 31 holes to decide the senior championship for 2020. Congratulations go to Scott who played some premium golf on a well manicured course. Both players had opportunities to secure the win but Scott proved more accurate on the day. Intermediate finalists, Chris Harris and Graham Rope, likewise had an even tussle
over 36 holes to decide our 2020 Intermediate champion ."Chris chipped well and was too consistent around the greens," Graham quoted as the game finished up with Chris taking out the honours for the second year in a row! Womens club champ over 18 holes is Ange Curle who defeated Sue Kendall in a tight game. Ange drove very accurately and was too tight around the greens. Well played
both competitors. With 9 hole lady memberships increasing, this years, competition was hot for final places! With Jan Brightwell and Amanda Cron, winning through to the finals, the day was set for a tight final. The game was evenly poised all the way,but with a few holes to play,Amanda pipped Jan for the 2020 title. Congratulations to all players. P.A. Senior finalists Silas Toonstra and Scott Klaver starting their 36 hole club final.

Soundsystem Project: Anti-Lonely Music Video Launch
Still images from the music video for Anti-Lonely created by local rangatahi.
T
he Chronicle caught up with local performer Jinja Cat this week to catch up about the Soundsystem Project and the resulting song and music video that was produced from the youth workshop. The musiv video for the song, Anti-Lonely was premiered to audiences at the Old School Arts centre cinema last week. Tell us a little about the project and what has been happening so far? Formed in 2017 in Scotland, the Soundsystem Project is an initiative centred around engaging young people in musically-driven creativity and technical skills via the DIY soundsystem culture
that originated from Jamaica. Participants work together to design build and operate their own transportable 12-volt soundsystem, and take part in DJing, MCing, Songwriting, Live Performance, Music Production & the creation of Music Videos. Back in the summer of 2019 two facilitators from the project in Scotland -Tom Spirals and Anders Rigg – connected with their music network here in New Zealand offering the opportunity for their programme delivery during their next visit downunder and what eventuated was the Raglan Youth Soundsystem workshop 2020 with 18 of our local youth taking part. Due to many people's combined efforts (Auckland and locally) plus donations of equipment, and our funders backing the whole

thing, our community was able to capture this unique opportunity. Out of the process the Soundsystem Project NZ limb was formed, and which is now looking to continue on, localise and diversify the initiative here in Aotearoa. The transportable 12v soundsystem, now dubbed the Whaingaroa Community Soundsystem, is also forging it's own path forward into the future as a catalyst tool for further youth and community led initiatives (and good times dancing!) It's a system with a lot of heart and potential, and we envision it becoming a positive (and memorable) thread in the fabric of our town's youth culture and musical character over the coming years. So watch this space. The resulting release, Anti-Lonely, is an original composition. Can you tell us a little about the process that rangatahi went through to create this song and the resulting music video? The song "Anti-Lonely' was created and recorded collaboratively in one evening session of the workshop and the content was spontaneous and in the moment. After deciding as a group what the tempo would be, the rangatahi split into two creative groups - one to craft the lyrics & set the chords, the other to develop the instrumental production. The lyricists brainstormed topics and chose something everyone can relate to at times – feeling alone. A song structure and 'story' arc to run through it, were set and then individuals were designated their own part of the song to write for eg. Verse 1, chorus, or bridge. In the room next door the instrumental was being made, with the youth using drum machine pads, keyboards and recording their own 'found-sounds' into the DAW to experiment with. Once the development time was up the lyricists entered the instrumental den and were given the 'thrown in the deep end' news that they would be recording their written parts right there and then. Such great sports! Overnight Anders & Tom tweaked the production and mix. The next day we got to listen to the track as a draft of the finished work, pending any changes if the youth really wanted that to happen. Everyone was buzzing on that first listen, it was such a brilliant moment. The song had a magic about it, authentic and rootsy Raglan. It was a crack up listening to a few of the rangatahi who were thoroughly shocked that they had made a song that sounded so good. That next day the group kept up the pace and actually wrote a second song - Love Step – in the same process but with the two groups swapped around. That one was inspired by dubstep 140 tempo and is a great song too! However we chose Anti-Lonely for making the video. The video ideas and story board were created by the group the next evening, and then after school the next day we set about the filming at the school and Kopua with the youth involved in all the elements – acting, filming, and directing. It was a huge achievement that day. Dominico Zapata, who was facilitating
as head-cameraman, then did the video editing post-project. The pandemic kicked in not long after, and so we waited until August to get everyone together again and give the rangatahi a private screening of their creation, as well as the doco on the project, before doing a community launch and public release. What were some of the highlights from the project? On the open day just before the project week started the soundsystem was brought into Volcom Lane and the youth got their first experience stringing it up, which basically means connecting up the battery to amp cable, and then the amp to speaker cables. They came in super keen, lining up and hungry to get hands on. It was a great sign of the week to come! Then we all carried it down to Bow St jetty, played tunes and hung out with friends. With the soundsystem being 12v transportable, running off a battery, we can take it anywhere. The soundsystem 'haul and string up' relay race on the b-ball court was hilarious. The group split into two teams raced to see how fast, yet super carefully, each group could disconnect, transport to the other end of the court, and reconnect the amp and speaker stack. A bit of box girl and box boy training. The end of the filming day also felt really special. We were at the skate bowl filming the last scene that was of the crew dancing next to the soundsystem and a whole bunch of unexpected and fun extras joined in with us. It was a stunning golden summer sunset, the place felt alive with charge, there was a vibe! And it continued on with the soundsystem staying to play the music for a pop-up dance & circus collective performance taking place in the bowl that night. How did the Music on the Big Screen night go? We had a great turn out and response, and the cinema setting was impressive with the big screen and Dolby stereo sound providing excellent quality visual and audio impact for the music videos. There was some very satisfying sub-woofer moments! Thanks to the Old School Arts Centre for having us.The aims of this event were to showcase the 'AntiLonely' video to our community, inspire and educate the rangatahi with Raglan's stellar homegrown musical talent in a unique way that also related back to their video making experience, and cultivate our Whaingaroa Community Soundsystem's vision that "music brings everyone together". It was a success. Any thanks and or mentions? Soundsplash, Creative Communities - Waikato Disctrict Council, Solscape & Rollercoaster - the funders for the February programme. Raglan Area School - for providing the venue and supporting all the way. Everyone on the organising and facilitating team - you know who you are. Ahurei Vibes! Raglan Football Club
R
aglan Football Club is seeking expressions of interest from children that wish to enter in the WaiBOP Federation league in 2021. This is an exciting opportunity to provide our older tamariki aged 13-17, who have the skills and commitment to excel in soccer to compete at competitive level whilst representing Raglan. This may appeal to our tamariki who due to their schooling circumstances cannot make the existing pathway of Raglan Football Club & Raglan Area School (RAS) teams, which will remain available whether or not the Federation teams are formed. These games are played on Sundays around the Waikato and can include travel as far as Tauranga, Rotorua and the wider BOP area. If this sounds like something that your child would be interested in or if you would like more information, please send an
email by 10th November 2020 to: info@ raglanfootball.nz and include the following details: Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Telephone Number and parent contact number. For further information on the WaiBOP Federation Teams please visit: http://www. waibopfootball.co.nz/PLAYERS/NationalAge-Group-Tournament Please note: this is a separate league, regular registrations for 2021 will commence as usual next year. R RAGLAN Chronicle 7
Little Things exhibition T he Chronicle sat down for a quick chat with Nadine from Wabi Sabi Studio to hear about the Little Things exhibition. What is ‘the little things’ exhibition about? We were brainstorming an idea to bring together a wider group of Raglan creative people and artists in a fresh way and provide a meaningful theme/ brief, to bring people together from the eclectic pool of Raglanites, we hope to inspire and provide a different platform for emerging and established talent to have a place every now and then to connect. Initially we wanted to do an exhibition open to everyone, all inclusive but the work involved in doing that for our first one seemed daunting so we decided to start with a invitation exhibition to get the idea out there and see where it goes from there. I guess the theme actually informed us without intending too …starting off small, small works, small steps to begin with. Marise suggested the idea based on a similar event in Sydney around the little things which we both loved. What is the motivation behind your theme/ brief ‘the little things’? Appreciating the little things that help make life easier or more enjoyable, keep you grounded in times of chaos. Seems even more relevant in these times that we can notice what's here around us and what those things, people, habits, gifts are. We used a few quotes about noticing the beauty in the mundane, normal everyday life that helps keep us on track and feel better about ourselves. Life can be tricky and it is hard at times. Mental health and well being are a big part for all of us to be more aware of how we can simplify and notice those little things. Tune out of the busyness, stress …pare it back down to those little things. If this becomes an annual event we hope each year artists can use it as a stimulus to tune in and also the community to be inspired by the little things ..that are actually the big things.
8 RAGLAN Chronicle
The kaupapa of the event is to bring inspiration to those little things we can hold onto …sharing what that is for each of us and in turn helping others see and notice ‘the little things’ in their life that are touchstones for them. The artworks need to also be small pieces which reflects the theme and this will make the art more accessible and at a value most of us can afford. It’s not about some big art piece or event …just this humble small thing that is of value. There will be a peoples choice award voted on the opening night and first weekend and future plans could be that there is 1st, 2nd, 3rd awards too. We have invited around 30 local artists trying to involve a diverse range so that it is fresh and eclectic, and humble …it will be exciting to see how it unfolds when works are delivered! What do you hope to achieve? Bringing a diverse group of creative, like minded people together in an inspiring, light but meaningful way … sharing personal interpretations on one idea, diversity yet community, accessible art, hope, sparking a small joy. To inspire our youth too… as there’s a huge creative force here in Raglan within the youth so being a small platform to bring them together and show their works too. We are hoping to create an eclectic exhibition of sharing personal creativity and glimmers of hope found in the little things through each of our unique eyes. Works will range in price for first time art buyers, youth to purchase and they make great Christmas gift ideas too. Maybe it will become an annual event, open to all next year who knows. When and Where: Exhibition opening is Thursday November 5th 6.30pm at Wabi Sabi Studio (behind Atamira). Then showing the weekends 10am - 2pm until Sunday November 15th. Come see ‘the little things’ and be inspired, and support local art!

brain. Neuromuscular reprogramming is the name given to this approach. We work with the brain by feeding it new information, which in this case is information about how we are actually moving. We wake the brain up to what is actually going on. The problem for us is that when the brain learns a new movement pattern – eg how to ride a bike, how to sign one’s name, how to protect an injured arm, how to not be noticed, how to cope – it may be a healthy pattern or not. After a few weeks of repetition the brain sends the pattern code to older parts of the brain, for repetitive unconscious reflex activation. The pattern becomes an unconscious
habit. This frees the upper for new learning. What is n maybe painful movement was learned, the best resp circumstances. It may not s may be crippling us. Helping grow the country
Join the Raglan Surf Life Saving Club I t’s that time of year again, the weather is heating up, the days are getting longer and Raglan Surf Lifesaving Club is getting prepared to open the doors to another season of Junior Surf. There are many reasons why children may benefit from coming along to Junior Surf sessions. Raglan revolves around the ocean, a wonderful yet powerful force which provides both immense fun but in turn, is at times strong and dangerous. Teaching our children how to read the beach enables them to understand the forces in action within the water and how to have fun in a safe way. Having an active involvement in managing risk around the water provides opportunities to make choices which will keep both them and their friends safe long after they have left home. Junior Surf encourages children who have an active competitive streak and at the same time those with a more relaxed personality. There are opportunities for Carnival and competition participation throughout the year, we enter the raft race, attend the Anzac parade and have a float at the New Year’s Eve parade. There are fun overnight stays at the club where movies and marshmallows will be up for grabs and we are offering a weekend training camp to prepare for the Northern region competitions.. The Junior Surf programme works through a framework to allow students to progress both within the season and over the years with the ultimate goal of being Surf Lifeguards themselves. Once you reach 12 years old, you can join the Rookies programme which fine tunes your Lifeguard skills, allows you to spend time on patrol and prepares you for your Surf lifesaving award. You will also have the opportunity to take part in the annual Northern Region Rookie challenge. Junior Surf is supported by a committed and experienced
team of coaches. This year we are fortunate enough to include a high number of lifeguards within the coaching team. We are always looking for new coaches and full training is provided to anyone who feels they would like to volunteer their services. Families are actively encouraged to participate and to support the children both in the sea and on the beach. The club always welcomes new members and as part of Junior Surf, families become club members. If you have always wondered what the view looks like from the clubrooms, here’s your opportunity!! Junior Surf registration is on 24th October 12 -2pm at the Papahua domain. This will be for 7 to 13 year olds. The first session at the beach will be November 2nd meet at the Raglan Surf club, Ngaranui beach. Under 7’s will start in January 2021 when the weather and water warms up. Any enquiries give us an email: Nikki- raglanjuniorsurf@ gmail.com Raglan Surf Club provides free training for people aged 14 and over who are keen to train as lifeguards and to commit to patrolling on the beach over the summer season. This runs from Labour weekend until Easter and lifeguards generally patrol for 1 weekend per month. Lifeguarding is an excellent opportunity to gain new skills, meet new people, have fun, get fit and give something really important back to the community. There are even opportunities to get paid over the peak season if you reach minimum requirements at interviews. Pre-requisites for being able to register for the training are: • Age 14 and over • Ability to swim 400m in under 9 minutes • Confidence in ocean swimming and waves • Strong commitment to being a lifeguarding
Next intake is Wednesday 28th October with sessions at Waterworld pool on 3 Wednesdays and training weekends at the Surf Club at Ngaranui beach, Raglan. For more information contact: Mollie Abrams Email:chiefinstructor@raglansurflifesaving.org.nz
Places for People engagement shows passion for the future of Raglan T he Places for People, He Whenua He Tangata project team is celebrating the high level of engagement in the community that the recent submission process attracted. Drop-in sessions held over the previous months were attended by many locals, providing a variety of opinions on the community-led project. A very successful workshop was also held with students of Raglan Area School, where the voice of our youth was heard loud and clear. Overall a total of 295 submissions were received. For the proposed changes in front of Orca at the Bow Street / Wallis Street intersection area ( Pūtoetoe Place ) there was 58% in support and 33% were against the plan and 9% in part. As far as the proposed parklet on Bow Street is concerned, 61% were in support, 28% were against and 11% in part support. As many in the community will know, this project has sparked vigorous debate within our town and the next steps of the project will be determined, much more than simply by the numbers. The project team are now analysing the large number of comments received by the community that go hand in hand with the submissions.
One purpose of the project is creating places downtown for people to gather and enjoy what the town has to offer. There was a lot of support for the creation of a space in central Raglan that is pedestrian-friendly and attractive to simply hang out for a while. However one of the main areas of concern is parking in the downtown area of Raglan and the potential impact the project would have on parking and businesses in the area. With this in mind the project team are acutely aware of the intent to bring people together rather than create division in our community, so progress on the Pūtoetoe place area will go on hold while further discussions continue with the businesses in that area. A finalised design for the proposed Bow Street parklet as presented in the drop in sessions will be coming out soon, and there are ongoing discussions about a location for a second parklet in town. Another purpose of the project is to improve the safety, confidence and attractiveness of other modes of transport like walking, cycling and access for mobility scooters. There will also be improvements to road crossings making the downtown
safer and more pedestrian friendly. How the overall project continues to evolve will become clear over the coming months, there is a lot of analysis by the project team and further discussion with the businesses and community that needs to take place. Project Manager Dennis Amoore from the Raglan Community Board says “We’d just like to say a huge thankyou to the people of Raglan for getting involved. Submissions both for and against showed a lot of passion and care for our town and community, though there were very different ideas about what it should and shouldn't strive to be.” “We believe it's in processes like these - where everyone's ideas and concerns and values are respected - that we can make decisions together as a community.” Look out for another update in a couple of weeks. You can visit the Raglan Community Board website www. raglancommunityboard.co.nz for more information about parklets and the project plus contact details for the team should you have any queries. Raglan Museum - Information Hub Update T he project team have been beavering away behind the scenes creating the next steps for the Raglan Museum and Information Hub. We hosted an update on the Whaingaroa-Raglan Destination Management Organisation in early October at Orca, this was well attended by community members, organisations, business owners and potential volunteers for the hub. We agreed that Raglan needs an information hub for visitors and locals, to provide information about services, accommodation, activities, local history, restaurants, transport, and other information about Raglan. We also shared our purpose, our vision, our mission and our values: Our purpose / Kaupapa This includes: • Providing general information services in addition to front office services, and collecting entrance fees, on behalf of Raglan Museum • Aligning with Raglan Naturally to provide a streamlined, cohesive vision for the future growth and impact of visitors to, and management of tourism in Raglan. It will help create job opportunities for locals. Raglan’s unique attractions for visitors can provide benefits for everyone. • Visitors can be educated about our place and they can contribute to the local economy and projects.

Seldom do properties come up for sale in sought after Puriri Street and it’s the first time on the market in 20 years for this big beauty. Perfectly positioned 50m from the waterfront, the substantial well presented 4 bedroom home has 2 living areas and is set on a large and near flat 1/4 acre (1012m2) section. The standalone double garage has the huge bonus of an upstairs self contained unit catering for overflow family and guests or providing a passive rental or holiday let income. The views of the waterfront, a stones throw away, are just divine from decks on both levels and there’s a rear deck and garden area for entertaining also. Ample off street parking is provided for several vehicles and there’s plenty of room for the boat too. Located so close to the popular Wharf and it’s a short flat stroll to the vibrant township and cafes. This is quite simply one of the best Raglan positions to come to the market and so seldom available for sale. Whether it be permanent, retirement or a holiday home, this ticks all the boxes. You just can’t go wrong buying in the one of best areas of Raglan.
