happy  to  share  my  day  to  day  life  with  including  the  ups  and  downs.  How  many  friends  does  one  need?  A  friend  is  a  person  who  does  things  like  bringing  a  meal  for  your  family  when  things  are  tough.  Don’t  be  fooled  into  thinking  you  have  526  friends.  Now  don’t  get  me  wrong,  I  do  actually  get  it.  I  may  not  resist  forever  and  I  understand  social  media  allows  people  to  communicate  with  their  friends  â€˜en  masse’,  stay  in  touch  and  there  is  no  mistaking  that  it’s  great  marketing  tool  for  businesses  in  these  current  times  although  I  do  think  some  companies  are  taking  it  a  tad  too  far.  A  tyre  company  with  catch  phrase  â€˜Follow  us  on  facebook’.....are  you  serious!  Decrepit  I  may  sound,  however  I  am  entitled  to  the  opinion  that  we  as  a  community  need  to  have  integrity  when  we  use  social  media  so  that  members  of  our  community  do  not  feel  abused  in  silence.  If  your  kids  are  on  facebook  check  in  to  see  that  comments  made  between  their  peers  are  above  board  because  you  might  be  surprised.  According  to  a  May  2011  Consumer  Reports  survey,  there  are  7.5  million  children  under  13  with  accounts  and  5  million  under  10,  violating  the  site’s  terms  of  service.   If  you  are  using  social  media  to  push  your  political  cause  then  think  about  keeping  it  professional  and  constructive  rather  than  personal.  Perhaps  you  will  gain  more  respect  and  credibility  that  way.  Discuss  social  media  with  your  children  who  are  using  it  and  warn  http://www.weathermap.co.nz/?p=raglan them  that  whatever  they  broadcast  is  potentially  permanent. Wild weather sends holiday plans west Kiteboarders  scudding  across  the  harbourmouth  at  breakneck  speed  seemed  about  the  only  people  who  enjoyed  the  stormy  conditions  last  weekend  as  Raglan  â€“  like  most  tourist  spots  around  the  country  â€“  turned  on  its  worst  Labour  Weekend  weather  in  years.

heavy  rain  which  joined  the  driving  onshore  winds  on  Sunday  forced  many  holidaymakers  to  either  head  home  early  or  seek  shelter  from  the  storm  in  downtown  cafes  and  shops.  Meantime  the  just-completed  replacement  deck  running  along  the  front  of  the  107-year-old  Harbour  View  Hotel  â€“  even  though  there’s  minor  work  still  to  be  done  and  there’d  been  time  to  stain  only  While  Saturday  was  settled  about  half  of  the  6  by  2  rough- enough  for  some  to  brave  the  sawn  planking  â€“  got  an  informal  beach  or  the  elements  out  in  a  boat,  christening  from  both  the  rain  and Â

Verandah  Bar  patrons. Across  the  road  the  Yot  Club’s  â€œfree  music  to  the  peopleâ€?  Sunday  Session  in  Volcom  Lane  was  described  by  an  organiser  as  â€œinsanely  busyâ€?  despite  the  regular  downpours.   â€œIt  was  our  biggest  Sunday  Session  ever,â€?  said  Candide  Reid.  â€œI  reckon  people  were  suffering  cabin  fever.â€? Another  popular  attraction  was  the  new  Raglan  artisans  market  set  up  in  the  old  boat  building  factory  at  the  wharf.   A  neighbouring  tenant  said  it  brought  a  â€œvibrant  and Â

excitingâ€?  feel  to  the  wharf  precinct,  though  had  a  tougher  time  of  it  on  Sunday  when  the  heavy  rain  set  in. The  Raglan  Information  Centre  â€“  a  good  barometer  of  activity  about  town  â€“  had  a  quieter  than  usual  Labour  Weekend  and  fewer  SHRSOH FDOOLQJ E\ WR WU\ WR ÂżQG ODVW minute  accommodation.   Several Â

accommodation  providers  typically  full  up  every  Labour  Weekend  were  left  without  bookings. Kopua  Holiday  Park  manager  Rob  Clark  also  told  the  Chronicle  that  Labour  Weekend  was  â€œa  bit  quieter  than  normalâ€?,  and  numbers  were  certainly  down  from  last  year.  People  saw  the  weather  forecast  and  chose  not  to  come  to  Raglan,  he  believes,  whereas  no-one  actually  packed  up  and  left  early  in  Sunday’s  heavy  rain. Back on deck: Verandah Bar patrons take advantage of a respite in the weather on Monday to enjoy a drink on the rebuilt deck of Raglan’s historic Harbour View Hotel. Pub owner Jeff Holloway says the old deck was rotten and unsafe, and that with new foundations also proving necessary the all-up cost of the rebuild will be about $20,000. Raglan builders Fitzgerald & Gillard narrowly won a race against time to have the new deck all but completed by Labour Weekend, a target Jeff says was “absolutelyâ€? the plan.

Raglan man alleged ‘cook’ in Te Uku drugs operation

The  expected  six-week  trial,   which  began  on  Tuesday  of  last  week  but  was  later  adjourned  to  this  week  after  one  of  the  accused  became  sick,  comes  after  the  October  2009  bust  which  police  say  uncovered  methamphetamine,   cannabis,  LSD  and  ecstasy. A  car  importer  at  whose  Rotokauri  property  police  say  they  found  large  amounts  of  cash  has  been  described  by  the  Crown  in  court  as  the  â€œkingpinâ€?  of  the  alleged  drug  operation. The  court  has  heard  a  Raglan  man  was  living  at  the  Te  Uku  rural  property  bordering  State  Highway Â

23  at  the  time  of  the  bust.   The  Crown  says  police  found  $3650  in  his  trouser  pocket  and  also  another  $200  cash.   Chemicals  associated  with  the  manufacture  of  methamphetamine  or  P  were  also  allegedly  found  at  the  property,  and  the  Raglan  accused  has  been  described  in  court  as  the  â€œcookâ€?  in  the  operation. Both  he  and  the  alleged  drug  ring  â€œkingpinâ€?  â€“  among  a  multitude  of  charges  brought  against  six  accuseds  â€“  deny  manufacturing  methamphetamine  between  January  1  and  October  17  of  2009.   The  Raglan  accused  also  denies  supplying  methamphetamine  and  unlawful  possession  of  pistols.  Several  of  the  accused  men  have  admitted  some  charges  but  are  ¿JKWLQJ RWKHUV The  Crown  says  the  drug  operation  involved  two  other  properties,  one  also  near  Raglan  and  the  other  near  Hamilton.
