This  week  the  Chronicle  caught  up  with  Denise  Fort. Describe  your  practice? I  love  drawing.  My  own  world  inspired  by  nature  and  anything  around  us. I  also  love  design.  Design  is  a  very  powerful  tool.  At  the  moment  I  do  a  lot  of  branding  projects. What  are  you  working  on  at  the  moment?  $W WKH PRPHQW ,ÂśP ÂżQLVKLQJ RII D \HDU rebrand  project.  I  loved  bringing  innovation  into  a  company  that  develops  educational  teacher  resources.  I  believe,  education  gives  people  the  tools  to  make  good  choices.  Soon  I  will  be  off  to  do  my  own  projects  again  and  then  do  more  travelling.  maybe.  It  wasn’t  an  easy  decision,  but  I  need  more  time  for  other  projects,  design  and  art.  For  my  artwork,  I’m  very  inspired  by  my  last  trip,  I  visited  an  old  friend  who  lives  and  works  in  Seoul.  A  little  bit  Japan,  Tonga,  Fiji  and  South  Island.  Since  I’m  back,  for  some  reason,  I’m  in  love  with  circles  and  triangles  on  square  paper  or  canvas.  Are  you  from  an  artistic  family?  My  father  is  a  very  visionary  thinker  and  he  was  very  creative  with  his  choices  in  life.  But  times  were  different  and  communistic  SROLWLFV JDYH P\ IDWKHU D YHU\ GLIÂżFXOW VWDUW in  life.  It  wasn’t  the  right  environment  to  execute  a  carrier  as  an  artist,  but  certainly  to  become  one  in  your  mind! My  father  did  wooden  sculptures,  made  his  own  binding  system  for  his  skis  and  he  did  drawing  competitions  with  us  and  always  won.  My  brother  is  an  artist  too.  He  is  good  at  everything  but  currently  he  is  an  awesome  photographer  travelling  through  the  northern  and  eastern  parts  of  europe. When  did  you  decide  to  pursue  a  creative  career?  I  didn’t  decide.  A  lot  of  times  I  tried  to  escape.  First  we  just  played.  Then  you  have  to  make  a  living  and  that’s  what  you  can  do  best.  I  always  worked  a  lot  and  things  just  started  to  happen.  :KR DUH \RX LQĂ€XHQFHG E\" By  a  lot  of  design  colleagues,  graphic  designers  and  car  designers.  My  friend  in  Seoul  I  just  visited,  he  designs  cars  for Â

Alan Vink for Council

Who  is  this  guy?  An  entirely  fair  question  that  I  have  heard  expressed  around  the  traps  a  bit. You  are  invited  to  â€˜drop  by’  next  Monday  (7th  October)  and  meet  me.  I  will  be  at  the  Town  Hall  supper  room  between  11.00am  to  1.00pm  and  again  at  4.30pm  to  6.30pm.  I’d  love  to  meet  you  and  will  be  happy  to  answer  your  questions.  I  am  an  ordinary  New  Zealander  born  and  bred  in  Wellington.  I  have  had  the  privilege  to  serve  on  the  Boards  of  numerous  community,  educational,  charitable  and  social  service  organisations.  As  a  school  leaver  I  worked  for  my  Dad  in  his  company.  After  two  years  I Â

headed  to  University  and  Teachers  College  and  went  secondary  school  teaching,  which  I  absolutely  loved.  However  an  unexpected  invitation  into  Baptist  church  ministry  saw  me  make  an  â€˜unplanned’  career  change  resulting  in  me  serving  three  Baptist  churches  as  their  Senior  Minister.  During  these  years  I  taught  Business  Studies  at  Wellington  Polytechnic  part-time  and  many  years  later  at  Fraser  High  School’s  community  education  programme.  For  the  last  six  years  I  have  been  an  adjunct  Tutor  at  Vision  College  in  Hamilton,  a  NZQA  accredited  Private  Tertiary  Training  Provider. Currently,  I  am  CEO  of  Willow  Creek  Association  NZ,  a  not-for- SURÂżW QDWLRQDO RUJDQLVDWLRQ ZLWK a  primary  focus  on  leadership Â

development.  I  am  passionate  about  effective  DQG HIÂżFLHQW leadership  and  management  p r a c t i c e s  for  all  Alan Vink organisations  including  local  government. I  am  deeply  troubled  that  politics  and  politicians  have  fallen  into  such  disrepute  that  according  to  the  annual  Readers  Digest  â€˜Who  Do  We  Trust’  poll  politicians  are  no.  46  out  of  50  least  trusted.  This  must  change  and  I  for  one  will  commit  to  be  a  politician  of  integrity,  transparency  and  clear  communication.
