• The Akshaya Patra Foundation is a notfor-profit organisation implementing the Mid-Day Meal Scheme in the Government schools and Government aided schools
• GPS Renewables is a waste-to-energy technology company that is pioneering the development of clean and low-cost technology for waste management solutions. • Biourja is GPS Renewables’ inaugural product, and is arguably the first viable bio waste to energy solution for urban establishments.
• It currently serves 1.4 million children from 10,770 schools across 10 states in India.
The Challenge
The Solution
• Akshayapatra required a solution of the 750 Kg of food waste generated daily after serving ~98000 children from the center off Kanakapura Road in Bangalore.
• GPS studied the waste generation pattern and the cooking requirements of the Akshyapatra kitchen
• Space available to establish a waste management solution was a constraint
• It recommended and installed a 750Kg capacity BioUrja that produces ~55Kg of LPG equivalent Biogas per day and occupies just ~300 sqft.
• The foundation was dependent on LPG for its additional requirement where on time supply was an issue
• Dependence on LPG cylinders completely eliminated Watch the Video
