By Jules Pecson e all want better performance from our brains and bodies, and none of us has time for ineffective remedies or pharmaceutical side effects. During consultations at Fiona’s Forest, Paradise’s only source for local wild-crafted medicine, my customers ask one question above all others: “How do you stay so healthy?” Since battling breast cancer nine years ago and using herbal medicine in place of traditional treatment, I’ve dedicated my life to sharing the healing power of nature with others. Whether I’m working 12-hour days or trekking through the wilderness to sustainably forage herbs, I need to operate at peak performance consistently without burnout. Here’s part of the daily regimen I trust to nourish my body, keep my brain alert, and empower me to live an actively fulfilled life.

Building a Better Brain
In the Age of Information, depression, anxiety, and exhaustion are near-universal complaints. We’re constantly bombarded with chemical and electrical interference that compromises us physiologically and psychologically. Our fatigued brains are saturated in data and forced to make countless decisions every day. Many of us are desperate for solutions to regulate mood and sharpen focus. On a recent evening walk near my Paradise residence, I looked upon a neighborhood tree and recognized a fungus that ranks above all others in benefiting neurological health: lion’s mane, a superstar mushroom gaining worldwide acclaim as a nootropic. A nootropic is a substance that enhances cognitive function, such as memory, focus, creativity, and motivation. This class of compounds is increasingly popular among young professionals seeking a mental edge in a competitive global marketplace. The Internet is especially abuzz with discussion about lion’s mane as an effective and natural alternative to synthetic drugs and their side effects.

I also use locally grown SaintJohn’s-wort tincture daily, which provides me with increased activity in serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine, and GABA, four powerful neurotransmitters that control emotions and countless other functions.

Humans have evolved through millennia using plant medicine. Untold generations of healers have learned the properties of herbs, using empirical observation to produce a long track record of safety and efficacy. In a modern phenomenon, scientists have started extracting plant components believed to be “active” constituents while discarding the supposedly “inactive constituents” in the pursuit of standardized sellable products. This new practice of sacrificing potentially vital constituents to concentrate others may have unintended consequences, such as disrupting the balance of the herb and our hard-won ability to absorb it. Instead of arbitrarily choosing certain aspects, I tincture whole plants fresh so all the constituents are present in their entirety, using trace elements rich in biological information we’re designed to recognize. In college I studied chemistry, which equipped me with an analytical perspective of plants’ molecular workings. During my six-year herbal apprenticeship, I took a hands-on approach to learning generational wisdom. I integrate both sides of this grand spectrum for maximum efficiency at Fiona’s Forest. I advocate for the power of plants, and I believe the secret to radiant vitality is living in harmony with the herbs that have developed alongside us during the course of humanity. A Letter from the Publishers
Change Is in the Air
W
hile we are on the subject of change in the air, the spring pollen is also in the air so be sure to look into the many ways in this magazine you can get relief without drugs. We have many great practitioners who can help. As far as change being in the air … we can see that we are at the tipping point in so many areas. It has been difficult to see change because the balance was so heavily against us, but now, at the tipping point, we can
see that every little thing we do, think, or feel has an effect. Our only “real” enemy is apathy and the thought that we cannot make a difference. We’ve found through the years that “thinking out of the box” not only helps you stand out from the crowd, out of the box is where all the innovations are, the new therapies and ideas, and from this vantage point it’s also where you can see and experience a new sacred emerging reality in every aspect of life. You can see it all around us; even traditional organizations are waking up to a new awareness in our world. As individuals we need to take responsibility for our mental, physical, and spiritual health; as a nation we need to make sure we are in alignment with our integrity; and as a global citizen we need to get and stay involved with world affairs.
We always want to point out that we are very thankful to you, our readers, who are so supportive of our advertisers. Without you this would not be possible. Rahasya, Dhara, and the many people who work to bring this magazine to the community

BioAcoustics, The Medicine of the Future

By Judy Chambers
uman BioAcoustics, developed by Sharry Edwards, M.Ed., of Sound Health, has been described as a cross between music therapy and biofeedback. Bob Bethel came to Sound Health with severe leg injuries from a motorcycle accident. Doctors had advised amputation. Several years later, after ongoing work with Sharry, he was teaching tennis. I am a speech pathologist by profession, and I am using BioAcoustics to maximize the effect of therapy. On three occasions, my speech patients were able to reverse vocal cord paralysis in a matter of months. For another patient who had TMJ pain, it was gone within a few weeks. Please visit www.ChicoSpeechTherapist.com for Judy Chambers, and read the reviews. What is BioAcoustics? It is a natural and holistic way of using voice analysis to enable the body to balance itself. We gather information from the body in the form of “voice prints,” which are analyzed in terms of frequency. The frequencies that are found to be “in stress” are used to develop individual formulas that are then programmed into a listening device to help the body to heal itself. Sharry Edwards, the developer of this technology, was born with the ability to hear sounds well beyond the range of normal hearing. She also is able to produce a perfect sine wave with her voice. These abilities enable her to “hear” the imbalances in people’s voices and to produce sounds that can help the individual’s voice become balanced. Sharry learned early on that these imbalances correlated with health issues. This understanding led to the development of an extensive database of frequencies correlating with a full range of vitamins, enzymes, hormones, muscles, vertebrae, nerves, neural transmitters, genomes, and so on. Through the years, computer programs and equipment have been developed that enable practitioners such as myself, who lack Sharry’s natural abilities, to provide these same services. Readers may recognize the similarity of this approach to other modalities, such as chimes, chanting, tuning forks, crystal resonators, and vibrating beds. However, BioAcoustics takes these an important step further, because it honors the individual. Any health issue that an individual can experience may be caused by many different things. There is no one cause for a particular problem, nor is there any approach that is always appropriate. Sharry discusses this at length in an interview with Larry Trivieri for a chapter about BioAcoustics in his book, Health on the Edge. She recounts a study that was done with three individuals who had gait problems. One of the subjects turned out to have difficulty processing vitamin B12. A second subject had gait problems that were due to the gene for Friedreich’s ataxia. The third individual had trauma to his L2 vertebra caused by a skiing accident. All of these root causes were discovered through analyses of their vocal prints.
What happens in a BioAcoustics session? During the first visit, or section of a longer visit, we take a vocal print. The client speaks into a microphone, which records a vocal sample into a computer. The frequencies are then analyzed by a computer program, which determines which frequencies are too high or too low. If a frequency is too high, it can mean either that the client has too much of the corresponding substance (mentioned above) in his or her system, or that the body is not able to process that substance effectively. Next, the practitioner analyzes the prints (we usually take at least two prints), running them through several data programs, to help determine the frequencies that are most likely to relate to the client’s issue. Finally, the client is asked to listen to various forms of the more important frequencies. Objective and subjective measurements determine which of these frequencies seem to be most effective. Finally, we program a small listening device, called a tone box, with the appropriate frequencies. The client takes the box home and listens to his or her sounds for a specified period each day. We usually also recommend a follow-up visit to adjust frequencies and to counsel the client. We have programs, or dedicated databases, for issues such as Parkinson’s, fibromyalgia, Alzheimer’s, cancer, PTSD, anxiety, and many other issues.
You might say that I have a passion for BioAcoustics. I have been studying with Sharry and providing this service for 22 years, and I could not stop if I wanted to!
My greatest pleasure is watching it work its magic! For more info, call 530-965-5175.

In Search of Balance
W
By Jane Miners
hen we think of balance, often we think of stillness. There’s a picture of one sitting quietly in meditation just being still. And though that will happen from time to time, balance is actually the fluctuations, the flow of life, the movement of experience and emotion. The universe is not still, our world is not still, our lives are not still; they are constantly flowing, moving, and changing. This movement is the balance. Like most people, I believe, I’ve been on a quest to find balance for my life, looking for stillness within myself. But by my early 20s I had gotten really good at creating an imbalance. Even if it wasn’t chaos, there was always slight disorder, constant low-grade stress that escalated to high-grade stress when I piled on more tasks and responsibilities for myself. I felt I always had to “do more” and “be better” so I busied myself to the
bone. I believed that balance was something to be achieved, something “out there” … someday … after I’d gotten to a certain point at which I’d done enough in life—then I would relax into a balanced life. So I pushed myself to reach this state. School, work, volunteering, mothering, helping the family, focusing on friends. Anything to avoid the turmoil inside me. One day, my friend took me to a yoga class and I fell in love; I’d found my sense of spirituality. I began taking classes intermittently in college and the community and began to understand how yoga is more than just doing poses; it translates to every aspect of our lives to help bring balance. Slowly, I began to allow myself to feel what I’d shoved aside and covered up by being busy. I realized that by holding on to unsettling emotions I was creating imbalance. Gradually, uncomfortable memories and emotions that needed to be dealt with came to the surface for me to look at. When I was able to be with the emotions and process them, the stress began to melt away. With growing inner awareness through yoga, I began

healing from emotional wounds, receiving Reiki and counseling, meditating, reflecting, and allowing myself to release anger and tears … I began to experience less chaos in my life. I began to practice being. Being in the moment. Being stressed, or sad, or happy. Whatever it was—working, going to school, taking a trip with my son—I was practicing being. Then a strange thing started to happen. I started to feel more balanced.

Body & Mind I felt less stressed and overwhelmed and began to understand that I didn’t have to avoid “negative” emotions that came up—pain, sadness, or anger. These emotions were there to guide me, to tell me that something needed to be released, to set boundaries, or to show the immense capacity I have for compassion as a human. I realized that balance, in fact, doesn’t mean that we are happy all the time, or that we will always feel calm, great, and ready to take on the world. Balance means that sometimes we are frustrated, irritated, or tired. Balance means that other times we are happy and energized. To be balanced means that sometimes we are grieving, or laughing, or sitting quietly. It means to be exactly where we are in this exact moment. Yoga is specifically designed to teach us to be. Yoga brings balance to our whole lives, the definition being union, bringing the body and mind together, to be. It concentrates specific postures to move energy in our bodies in order for us to release and process so we don’t become stuck and sick, or so stiff and rigid that our bodies and thoughts cannot move easily. It doesn’t matter our ability, flexibility, size, shape, or age; there is a practice for anyone. As with yoga, another beautiful tool that moves and balances body and mind is Reiki. Reiki is very relaxing, restoring balance in the energy centers of our body and auric field, clearing energy channels and relieving stress and

tension. It brings to the surface stored emotions and things we may have buried, healing on a subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) level, perhaps giving us profound insight on what we can do to improve our lives. It can help give a whole new perspective on situations in your life.
When I “found” Reiki, I knew I wanted to help people heal themselves through this gentle and loving energy. I knew that I wanted to teach both Reiki and yoga to help people balance body and mind, to trample the myth that they are separate. My work is guiding people to themselves, bringing the body/mind/spirit

into one through awareness and practice. Like the tree in the field that sits rooted through the storm, we can find peace despite what is going on around us. We can learn to process emotions and thoughts in a productive and healthy way, allowing us to feel steady. The acceptance that things always change allows for this peace. The storm will pass, we will feel happy and calm again, we will face more challenges, and then … overcome. This acceptance will increase the peace we feel despite our situation. We can be like the seasons that come and go, the sun that rises and sets. This constant flow and movement is the balance of the universe. If we allow ourselves to move with this flow, that same balance will fill our very beings. For more info you can call Jane Miners at 530-354-3119.

Reset Your Body’s Homeostatic Balance
with Alkaline Ionized Water
I
By Fred Erickson
t is necessary to protect our body systems from toxic overload and not deprive our bodies of the hydration necessary to support those systems. Throughout the day we lose water through our breath, sweat, and urine. Getting and staying hydrated can be a challenge for most of us. Water is the foundation of life. Our bodies are on the average 70 percent water. Water is the basis of all bodily fluids. It is critical for the regulation of body temperature, the transportation and absorption of nutrients, elimination of wastes, lubrication of joints, the cushioning of organs, and the cerebral spinal fluid that bathes the brain. Water is the largest single source of energy to the body, which is why the first symptom of dehydration is fatigue. Four properties of Kangen ionized alkaline water give the body the opportunity to return to homeostasis: alkalizing, hydrating, detoxifying, and antioxidizing. Alkalizing Kangen ionized alkaline water, with a pH of 8.5, 9.0, and 9.5, is water that has dissolved minerals in it. It is the minerals in the water—primarily potassium, magnesium, sodium, and calcium—that allow the water to be “split” by an electric current (electrolysis) into alkaline
“electron-rich” (containing negatively charged ions, OH-, that provide electrons to positively charged free radicals) and acid, electron-deficient compounds. Ionized alkaline water has an abundance of OH- ions to donate freely to unstable water molecules, resulting in an increase in the bicarbonate buffers in the blood. The blood is carefully buffered to keep it in a narrow range between pH7.35-7.45. The body keeps blood pH stable using alkaline buffers, chiefly bicarbonate, to neutralize acidic liquids, products, and byproducts. But as the bloodstream receives these acidic substances, the alkaline buffers get used up and then the body pulls necessary minerals such as potassium, magnesium, and sodium from the body’s mineral reserves, and calcium from vital bones, to use as buffers. Drinking alkaline water helps reduce the burden on the limited alkaline buffers, which are needed for the body’s natural detoxification processes.
It also neutralizes stomach acid, which stimulates the cells in the stomach to secrete more hydrochloric acid (HCL) to maintain the stomach pH value. Bicarbonate buffers in the blood balance the body by neutralizing acids and excreting toxins. Hydrating Through the electrolysis process, the water molecule is restructured and reduced in size from 10-13 clusters to 5-6 microclusters per water molecule. This change in structure and the way the water molecule is organized has a powerful effect on the water’s ability to hydrate your cells and carry energy (it is water that the body’s electric current rides on throughout the body). Chemists refer to water as a “polar-molecule.” Because of the way electrons are arranged around each atom, water has a positively charged side and a negatively charged side. This means that when water is placed in an electrical field (electrolysis), the molecules must organize themselves in a very specific way to stay balanced within the ionizing field. The water molecule assumes a crystal-like hexagonal (six-sided) geometry that can literally change the properties of water. The crystalline structure enhances its ability to hydrate cells, to transport nutrients, remove wastes, support metabolic processes, and improve cellular communication.

It's the safest, most superior hair removal technique as it removes the hair from the root while exfoliating the skin.
Body & Mind The body’s detox pathways are liver-colon, kidney-bladder, lung-breath, skin-sweat, and lymphatic system. All require fresh, clean water. When clean water is not sufficiently supplied, wastes build up in the fluids that surround each cell. Kangen ionized alkaline water supports cellular detoxification. It is fresh, clean, and tastes good, which makes it easier to get and stay hydrated.
Detoxifying To start, it is recommended that you drink 1/2 ounce per pound of body weight, with the goal of drinking 1 ounce per pound of body weight. The reason for this is the powerful effect of this water’s ability to hydrate and thus detoxify at the cellular level. Symptoms of toxicity that is due to dehydration are headaches, constipation, brain fog, and premature aging. The constant removal of cellular waste is vital to homeostatic balance.
Antioxidizing The most important property of ionized alkaline water is its oxidationreduction potential (ORP), also known as redox potential. ORP is a measurement that indicates the degree to which a substance is capable of oxidizing or reducing another substance. Water with a high negative ORP is of particular value in its ability to reduce/neutralize oxygen-free radicals. Free radicals are among the most damaging molecules in the body and are highly unstable molecules that are oxidizing (damaging) agents because they’re electron deficient. Free radicals must get electrons from somewhere and they will steal them from whatever molecules are around, including normal healthy tissues. They are a principle cause of damage and disease in the
body. Oxygen-free radicals contribute significantly to a broad variety of disease conditions in the body, varying from life-threatening conditions such as heart disease, stroke, and cancer to less severe conditions such as arthritis, cataracts, and premature aging. Stable, oxygen-rich negative hydrogen ions (OH-) are natural antioxidants and have a high ORP. Through ionization, Kangen water is charged with electron-rich OH- ions and are able to donate electrons freely, reducing and thus eliminating free radicals at the cellular level. Changing your drinking water to Kangen water will change your life and help reset your body’s homeostatic balance. Below are testimonies from people whom NAET has helped. I have been treating an autistic boy for about six weeks. We thought asking his mom for a testimony might help other parents with autistic kids, especially those allergic or vaccine damaged. “My son was diagnosed with autism at the age of 3. He is currently 4, and we began traditional ABA, OT, and speech therapy at the age of 2. He seemed to have regressed to between the age of 15 to 18 months. He lost all sounds, start of communication, and all eye contact. It seemed as if he just went
into his own world. We went along with what his pediatrician recommended with traditional therapies for autism and basically left us to figure things out. Once my son turned 4, we decided that the traditional therapies weren’t enough. The first thing we did was change his diet to gluten free, dairy free, sugar free. It is hard from time to time but he seems to be benefiting from it. We had been doing research like crazy and came across NAET treatment. We decided to start treatments because they aren’t harmful and figured we didn’t have anything to lose. We are about halfway though the basic food groups, along with treating infections, antibiotics, and vaccines. He has had some huge changes already! He is saying phrases, short sentences, and trying to sing! The clarity in his eye contact is amazing. It is almost as if he is finally seeing you versus looking at you. He is having more eye contact than he has ever had since the change. Even with other people than us.
His therapists all say his eye contact is improving; he is less frustrated and seems more calm than before. His sleep patterns have definitely improved as well. He has had some signs of detoxing, and we believe that the NAET treatments are helping his body clear toxins. We are super excited to see what his future holds with more NAET treatments. We will be taking another ATEC score at the end of treatments and are positive that it will be lower.”— Katrina, mom Another way energy medicine can help is to treat an infection. Here’s one example: Nancy had a virus, making her very ill. After treatment, she texted, “Feeling so much better after the last treatment. It’s [virus] brutal. So thankful to have you both in my life!” Pat is happy with her health shift and writes: “NAET treatments and a supplement, Lympha-EX, recommended by Dr. Light, have resolved two major health issues. Thank you NAET and Dr. Light.” Sometimes, allergies can be to heights or emotional. “I suffered vertigo for years and avoided heights whenever possible. After one treatment with NAET I discovered the source of my fear and it went away and has never returned! Amazing! Love NAET.”—TJW “I have lived in Butte County for 30 years and had continually suffered allergies in the fall due to the annual ‘Ag Burning.’ I tried numerous different products and treatments, but none helped. with no return of the allergy, and now go seasonally for NAET treatment as a maintenance. Fantastic results!”—TJW Allergies can be to one’s joints, causing pain. “I have been getting NAET treatments at Chico Integrative Health. NAET is a remarkable allergy elimination technique that removes the toxic residue of many things in your body, which make it highly sensitized and burdened and unable to heal itself. I used to think allergies meant hay fever and food allergies, but allergies cover so much more. My health has greatly benefited in all aspects and my annual lab reports show marked improvement in every category.
Carmen was so excited to have Agent Orange leaving her and is hopeful this will reduce her diabetes and sight issues. For those suffering from fibromyalgia pain, NAET can help turn off the pain signal by giving the body what it needs, eliminating unhealthy sensitivity reactions, and removing substances that are damaging or toxic to their bodies. Listening to Our “Shadow”
By Aeray Lumm
O
ne of the biggest traps we fall into when working with our shadows is trying to “fix” them. Right now, you might be thinking, “Well, if I don’t fix them, what the heck am I supposed to do with them?” Trying to fix our shadows (or our flaws) is a part of our cultural conditioning, and the process of doing “shadow work” is counterintuitive to what we are taught. It takes time and guidance for the mind to understand why we don’t need to change or fix our shadows; to understand what we can
do; and how to do it. To understand what to do with our shadows, we need to first understand what we mean by “shadow” and how the shadow plays into our lives. Your shadow is the part of you (thoughts, patterns, “flaws,” feelings, etc.) that you don’t want people to know about you. Perhaps you don’t even want to know these parts of yourself, and so you repress them. We are terrified that if we expose our shadows we will face rejection, lack of approval, perhaps even be cast out of our community or circle of friends. The belief that we are our shadows may lead us to have a decreased sense of self-worth, self-esteem, or self-image. Our genetic imperative to be accepted and to survive drives us to hide these parts of ourselves and pretend that we are “perfect beings.” Perhaps you have taken on the journey of shadow work and are really “looking at yourself”—shining that light into those dark places and becoming aware of who you really are, and how you really feel.
Unsure how to decide what to do next? Looking for guidance and a deeper understanding? Tired of crossing the line and not respecting your own boundaries? Out of control and craving balance and simplicity?

The question is … are you still trying to fix what you see? The gift. No one ever told us that our shadows are OK, that everyone has them, and that they contain gifts. No one told us that these parts of ourselves are innocent, that underneath our feelings, habits, patterns, and so on … is a young child waiting to be loved, to feel accepted, and to feel safe—that it is from these unmet needs that our shadows are born, amplified, and expressed outward in unhealthy ways. These shadows are childlike parts of ourselves that are “stuck” in a story of pain and unable to grow up. They pick fights, throw temper tantrums, feel selfish and afraid, and sabotage your life. Because they are stuck at a young age, and they do not yet have tools or understanding of how to cope with and move past their feelings … they continue to “act out.” If left unattended, they will continue to grow in their need and can control your life. When we try to suppress, repress,
Body & Mind change, fix, or push away these childlike parts of ourselves, they may feel neglected, abandoned, or unloved. This causes them to either act out more or to give up. Giving up can become a deep depression and caving in on oneself, believing in the shadows and the idea of their futility. If you are looking at your shadows, and you are working to actively change those parts of yourself, you may eventually realize that what you are doing is a form of “reconditioning.” Positive affirmations are one such style of this. They do not lead to deep change, as you are attempting to push away the shadow by focusing only on the positive. You will also come to realize that the pain finds a way to break through the facade. Any form of trying to change our shadows, without actually listening to them, will ultimately lead to more repression and deeper feelings of abandonment, as it is you who is abandoning yourself. These trapped, childlike parts of ourselves want to be free. They want to grow up and they want to feel loved. They won’t leave you alone until you can give them that. These “childlike” parts of ourselves have a reason for their behavior.
If we knew that their negative impact on our lives was really a cry for more love … would we withhold that from them? That is exactly what we are doing when we try to fix, repress, or in any way push those parts of ourselves away when they come up. So if changing, fixing, and repressing our shadows doesn’t work … then what does? The answer is counterintuitive to what we have been taught. It lies in allowing them. Relearning/remembering that being human doesn’t mean being perfect. It means having many different human experiences, all of them (on some level) valid. Our experiences have a reason and a purpose, and at the deepest level, they are always pointing to the need for love. How can we ever understand, and give to that need, if we are focused on changing or fixing them? Allowing is the act of making space for the shadows to be there. It is accepting that we are imperfect in our natures and that we are all “good” and yet we are all “flawed.” It is the compassion FINDING HAPPINESS WITHIN YOU! to say to ourselves, Group Meditations Spiritual Boutique Classes, Yoga Sunday Service Healing Prayer Circles

“This human experience I am having is OK.” The moment we surrender and agree to look honestly at ourselves … we can experience a deep release within us as our inner struggle begins to wane. Some shadows dissolve easily when we look upon them with love and acceptance. Other shadows need a change of perspective or attitude. Some shadows are multilayered, and like a combination lock, they need a process of allowing and accepting of each layer. Shadow work takes time … and it isn’t for the faint of heart. One can get lost and confused in the shadow lands, and it’s always a good idea to have the support and guidance of someone who has taken the journey and “come out the other side.” In the second part of this series, “The Art of Allowing Our Shadows,” we will look more deeply into how to allow our shadows (to be published in the next issue). Shamanic Soul Retrieval
Y
By Annie Fuller, Spiritual Healer/Teacher our joyful, innocent 5-year-old self wades in a bubbling stream while singing to deer, squirrels, and raccoons. She won’t come home to you if Daddy is still around. What happened at that age? A 40-year-old devoted mother feels an unexplained loss. In the upper worlds I meet a creative, 25-year-old soul part painting a large, brightly colored canvas. Wasn’t that the age you had your first child and turned your studio into a nursery? An 18-year-old part of your soul is standing on the side of the road, screaming. Is that where the car accident occurred 10 years ago? Are you still afraid to drive? A tightly swaddled newborn, forgotten and frozen in shock, is all alone in the hospital nursery. You’re now 75. Hasn’t abandonment been your foundational wound? Trauma and Dissociation Trauma, as illustrated in the true-life vignettes, is subjective and relative. We
dissociate or detach in response to an ordeal. An abusive father, life changes, a terrifying car accident, abandonment. We survive. Dissociation with diverse effects can be called post-traumatic stress. People spend years trying to break free from overwhelming experiences and childhood conditioning. Pharmaceutical companies offer medications to ease our pain. But is it possible to fully heal when pieces of ourselves are missing? What Dissociates? Where Does It Go? How Can We Get It Back? When we experience trauma, part(s) of our soul split off, go to a place in another reality, and become stuck in time. We survive, yet there’s a cost. Soul parts, unaware the trauma is over, are continuously reliving it. This affects us dramatically, for they are us. With vital energetic aspects of our soul no longer present, a void is created that too often becomes filled with heavy energy. All soulular energy reflects and mirrors down through the spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical bodies. The state of our soul affects our entire human experience. Soul retrieval, a cross-cultural shamanic tradition, is a ceremony in which lost parts of the soul are found, offered healing, and brought back to us, where they belong. Ancient and limitless, it enhances traditional therapy and even saves lives. The Human Soul Spirit and soul have become interchangeable words. Spirit is

consciousness. Imagine a sparkling light, and in the center, see the seed of a soul. When spirit incarnates into form, our soul seed emerges and grows. We are spirit, within soul, within body. Each individual soul is a multilayered, living library composed of refined and heavy energies. Situated in the center of the chest at the “heart/soul space,” the soul emanates and surrounds us like a large bubble of energy. Other names for soul are aura, energy bubble, and human energy field. The soul, like a protective mother, helps ground and support our survival as human beings. As a library, it stores memories of past experiences and incarnations. Our individual souls have been doing this since we began our cycle of awakening. Symptoms of Soul Loss These can include addiction, self-hatred, depression, memory loss, spaciness, anxiety, feeling as if you don’t belong, illness, suicidal tendencies, insomnia. ... Are you ever emotionally triggered? Do you have unsettling dreams, flashbacks, phobias? Post-traumatic stress of any kind? Story I met Marc in Mexico through a mutual friend. He had been a Green Beret during the Vietnam War and returned home with a severe case of post-traumatic stress. For years, Marc saw countless doctors and took a myriad of prescription medications. He got little relief. No matter where Marc

Body & Mind was—in bed, on the beach, at the store— he could not get away from the war. At Marc’s final psychiatric visit, the doctor told him, “You have the worst case of PTSD I’ve ever seen. There’s nothing we can do for you.” I did a soul retrieval. Taken to a battlefield, I witnessed an adrenal-pumping, hyperalert, shattered soul part. My teacher said, “Gather all the pieces in a basket.” I called, “Marc. Come. Come.” When the basket was full, we took it to my power spot and immersed the pieces in the healing waters. After a long while, a 20-year-old Marc, vibrant, grounded, and present, emerged from the water. He greeted his power animal, who had been waiting for him at the shoreline. I blew Marc, ready for life, and his power animal home, into his soul, where they belonged. A few days later Marc said he’d slept better than he had in years. I never saw him again, although our friend told me he was back in Texas and feeling calm. Marc was finally able to leave the war behind. Story Sonja was an active woman in her late 30s with two young children. A skiing accident necessitated numerous surgeries, and she had a rod in her knee and walked with a cane. Sonja was so depressed she barely spoke.
Here is a highlight from one of our healing ceremonies. While channeling light for Sonja, I realized she needed a soul retrieval to restore her voice. My teacher and power animal took me to the ocean floor, where
I saw beautiful fish encircling a small area. Instructed to dig, I uncovered a treasure chest. When I opened it, the sparkle of dazzling jewels almost blinded me. Rubies. Emeralds. Diamonds. My teacher said they were a manifestation of Sonja’s voice and had been hidden there since she was 5 years old. I received the riches, called for healing, and blew the beauty of her voice directly into Sonja’s throat. Later that week I received a phone call from Sonja’s husband, who was wondering what had happened at the last healing. He said Sonja had been talking nonstop! Sonja said she was speaking in the way of a young child and wondered if that was okay. I told her to give herself a few days for the energy of her voice to harmonize and balance within her newly
refined soulscape. It took a week for Sonja to have her adult voice back. Healing One of the goals for human beings is to be whole, with all the fragmented parts from past and present lifetimes joined together like a fully completed jigsaw puzzle. Dissociation and soul loss are common themes for a majority of my clients, whether they are physically ill, emotionally suffering, or energetically challenged. I’ve been facilitating soul retrievals for more than 26 years and have witnessed miracles. I’ve also had many soul retrievals and believe I wouldn’t be sane or healthy without them. Let’s All Come Home to Ourselves Be here now, in the present moment. Reap wisdom gained from the past, yet leave the past behind. Move from inner duality and separation into oneness. I’m grateful for the oftentimes instantaneous healing potential of the soul retrieval ceremony. This concise history of psychedelics quickly leaps into the future, as more influential people expand their thinking with ayahuasca, 5-MeO-DMT, and LSD. Steve Jobs admitted in his 2011 biography that he took LSD and was more inclined to hire similar people into Apple, thinking they would be more likely to think outside the box and innovate. Oroc suggests we may even move beyond chemical means to virtual-reality programs that will ease us into new awareness of our cosmic existence. Transformational festivals such as Burning Man are mushrooming throughout the West, making visionary art and music easily accessible to anyone who is curious. The movement was driven by personalities such as Sasha Shulgin, Terrance McKenna, and Alex Gray, but the future belongs to the many thousands who are now consciously working with these sacred molecules.
If you are a lighthearted seeker this book will undoubtedly give you a different perspective on the nature of life. If you are a serious researcher this book will give you a deep look into the nature of the cosmos. Being a longtime reader of Gurdjieff and Ouspensky and their research, I found many common denominators in world religions and myths while reading this book, especially the Fibonacci sequence, which underlies the very fabric of matter. What I had never thought of was that it underlies the very fabric of time and the essence of my own being. This is an important read no matter where you are in your journey.
Although the title is deceptively simple, the contents of the book are very complex and will require some work … but anything worthwhile always takes work. It includes some old information but it’s brought into a new light with the understanding of the latest research. This information has a great symbiotic relationship with traditional medicine so the patient can stay with tradition and at the same time ease the negative effects of the standard medications used today … truly a complementary approach.

The 2nd Chapter of the Yoga
M
By Tom Hess any consider the second chapter of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali to be the most important chapter of the text for the practitioner of yoga because it describes the actual practices that one should do to follow the path of yoga. Patanjali starts out in this chapter by defining Kriya Yoga, which is discipline, self-study, and orientation toward the ideal of pure awareness. These are also part of the eight limbs of yoga, which we will see later in the chapter. Then he describes the kleshas, or obstacles toward the path of yoga. They are ignorance of who we really are, ego or attachment to the false self, attachment toward the things that are pleasant, aversion toward the things that are unpleasant, and clinging to the physical self that is finite. All of these things are obstacles to the path of yoga, according to Patanjali. These kleshas can be overcome by following the path of yoga. According to Patanjali, the wise see suffering in all experience the good and the bad.

Sutras of Patanjali
After the kleshas comes a description of karma, which is the accumulation of latent impressions or imprints, either positive or negative, that then have an effect on how one acts in the future. A person will have a pleasant or unpleasant life according to the latent impressions (karma) that he or she has acquired throughout his or her life. Good actions and thoughts lead to pleasant experiences. With the path of yoga we can overcome these habitual patterns so that our actions come from the true self rather than from the preexisting patterns of behavior. Then comes a description of the gunas, or qualities of humans. They are tamas, or inertia, rajas, or activity, and sattva, or the illumined condition. These qualities we all have all the time and when we identify ourselves with these qualities rather than with the true self, this leads us to a state of ignorance or false identification. When we see beyond these qualities to the true self the ignorance is lifted. This is true freedom—when we can see the true self within ourselves rather than the image that the mind has created for ourselves. Then Patanjali describes the eight limbs of yoga, or Ashtanga (eight-limb) Yoga. These are the main practices that the practitioner of Patanjali’s method of yoga is encouraged to follow. Another name for Patanjali’s yoga is Raja Yoga or Royal Yoga. The first limb is yama, or moral observances; there are five of them—the first is ahimsa, or nonharming, the second is satya, or truthfulness, the third is asteya, or nonstealing, the fourth is brahmacarya, or celibacy, and the fifth is aparigraha, or freedom from greed for possessions. The second limb is niyamas, or restraints; there are five of them—the first is sauca, which means cleanliness and purity, the second is svadyaya, or study of the self and of ancient texts, the third is tapas, or fervor for practice, the fourth is santosha, or contentment, and the fifth is isvara pranhidhana, or surrender to the idea of pure awareness. The third limb of yoga is asana, or the physical postures practiced for nourishment and illumination of the body. The fourth limb of yoga is pranayama, or the practice of managing the breath so that the breath encourages the prana of the body to circulate and percolate within. The fifth limb of yoga is pratyahara, or the practice of removing and controlling the senses of perception to look within. This inner quest or vision is more clearly felt inside oneself when external distractions are minimized. This is where the second chapter ends and we will pick up the last three limbs of yoga next issue when we look at the third chapter of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

Three Ways to Quiet the
“Internal Critic”
By Montriel V. Jamari, Relationship Coach
When writing the story of your life, don’t let anyone else hold the pen.
W
—Harley Davidson
e all have that inner voice that has the power to encourage us to achieve and that tells us we can make it. That inner voice can even tell us we will fail and in our minds this is enough to confirm that belief. This voice can be helpful when we are going for that last pull-up or running that extra mile. That voice may
say, “One more push-up,” or “You got this!” or “I know your legs are burning but it is just one more mile … you can do it! No matter what, you can make it!” This voice brings into focus all of the hard work that preceded the obstacle that is in front of us. It may take two strokes off your game of golf. It may help you to make that game-winning shot with five seconds on the board. Likewise, some voices are not so helpful. They may say, “Do you really believe that you can start your own business at your age? You remember when you tried that last time and look what happened?” This is a very interesting phenomenon of the human mind. Where do these negative beliefs come from? Why are they so influential and pervasive over our thoughts and behavior? What is the origin of these false premises that lead us into an irrational conclusion about our own capabilities?
Most of these thoughts are based in fear. It becomes that much more challenging when we get that bill in the mail, a call from a collection agency, and an added hospital expense. It would be easy to stick your head in the ground like an ostrich and “hope” that the problem will vanish, dismissing the rest of you that is exposed above ground. The upshot? There are more practical ways of combating this faulty belief system!

Do the Opposite
Your greatest first step is in dispelling the irrational belief by proving and doing the opposite. For example, if the voice is telling you that you are a “failure,” this negative voice is speaking to a quality of your character, not a single act. Therefore, it cannot be true that you fail at everything … all the time! Small things, such as
Your Enrollment Fee! Mention this ad.
Special Interest choosing to get up in the morning and facing the day, are a success in themselves. Consciously bringing into memory and doing the things that you have been successful at is a powerful tool for disregarding this untruth about your character. There may have been things that you have failed at but this does not make you a failure!
Journaling
Journaling the trials that you have experienced goes a long way in quieting that inner critic. Ask yourself, “How have I managed to make it through these difficulties?” Take a few moments to really be with that. As you ponder this question, you might discover the reality that just simply believing in yourself is a tremendous start to changing things in your life, today, and actuating the vision that you have for your future. The problem lies when we do not couple the cognitive belief/thoughts with consistency.
around it. Practice putting what you want on paper as a goal both long and short term and make small incremental steps toward those goals. Most people know exactly what they don’t want but they give less time to being clear and specific about what they do want. Make a list of what you do want, be clear and specific, and review these goals as part of your daily life. If your goal is getting the partner of your dreams, then ask yourself what you’re doing in your life to attract your ideal partner. Hard Work You have to be a student of the game and Changing our circumstances takes hard learn every aspect of what it takes to be work. There is no other way of getting successful. by his mother that he was not going to amount to anything, just like his father. This belief had been so ingrained in his psyche that he began to fulfill this prophecy. I challenged him on his faulty beliefs about himself and the world and his willingness to confront the internal critic, who happened to actually be the voice of his mother, not himself. Together, we wrote out a plan of action to attain the vision that he saw for himself without his mother’s own internal beliefs. It worked powerfully! One of the highlights of my career was to see this young man walk across the stage with his cap and gown on college graduation day. Was it hard work? Absolutely! However, where there is setback there is deep-seated reward that is worth every penny. Life comes with challenges. Remember to celebrate the small successes, reframe the problems as challenges, believe in yourself, and have a backup plan when things do not go as expected—these are essential in your life journey.

What’s Your Pee Telling Thee? The Bowl Truth and Nothing But the Bowl Truth!
P
ee … it’s what we do multiple times every day. Most of us don’t even think about “taking a pee” unless, of course … something about your urine looks, feels, or smells differently from normal. While not quite as taboo a subject as its nearby cousin—poo—pee is a little easier on the eyes to examine for any troublesome variations. Factors such as color, smell, and look are all indicators of how well your body is excreting its waste through your urine. Once you understand what your pee is telling thee, you can learn a lot about your physical health. Sometimes it’s a matter of doing something as simple as drinking more water. If the problem appears to be more chronic, other changes may require urine testing. Here’s what
to look for and when to know if it’s important to seek help. Urine Color Normal urine—at its best—is a yellowtinged liquid. Think of the song They Call Me Mellow Yellow… The color comes from the pigment urobilinogen … which is the result of a breakdown of another yellow-orange pigment, bilirubin … which is the result of a breakdown of hemoglobin. Bilirubin is converted into yellowed urobilins once it enters the kidneys, which explains the yellowness. So basically if you excrete what looks like pale lemonade, you are good to go! Which urine colors are abnormal?
www.ColonCleansingForEnergy.com
Dark Yellow Dark, deeper shades of yellow are not as desirable. Dark yellow urine indicates that the urine is concentrated. On the contrary, clear pee that “matches” the toilet bowl water indicates just the opposite—excess water in the urine. It’s a positive sign that you are well hydrated. There’s a caveat, however: If you are drinking large quantities of alcoholic beverages, within 20 minutes of your first drink the body starts to compensate by decreasing a hormone responsible for preventing urination to conserve water (known as ADH, or anti-diuretic hormone). But when one drink follows another, the increased liquids dilute the

Body & Mind urine enough to be colorless because the kidneys can’t keep up. That’s why we often become dehydrated after a night on the town. Red Color If not the result of eating beets or other red-hued foods, a red color is almost always a sign of bleeding in the urinary tract. Redcolored urine is most often associated with urinary tract infections of the kidneys or bladder, known as hematuria. (The presence of bacteria from an infection causes inflammation that may also create a burning sensation while urinating.) Red-colored urine could also indicate the presence of kidney damage from bruised or inflamed kidneys (sometimes occurring after extreme exercise or trauma). Reddish urine may also indicate kidney stones and cancers of the urinary tract, such as of the bladder and prostate. Orange Color A bright orange, almost fluorescent yellow color may be an indication of excess vitamins. Because our bodies flush out
any excess vitamins, you may want to consider saving your money when you see fluorescent-colored urine. Some medications (check any medication side effects related to urine) may also be the culprit for brightly colored urinary hues. Brown Color Brown-colored urine may indicate a blockage in the flow of bile. When the bile duct is blocked, bile spills into the bloodstream and then into the urine. Bile colors the urine a dark greenish/brown color. Brownish urine is quite serious because it may indicate liver dysfunction, gallstones, or a pancreatic tumor. If your urine is brown, see your medical doctor immediately. Frequently, dark urine and palecolored stools occur in tandem because bile is not being made or released properly. If you are experiencing pale or tan-colored stools without brownishcolored urine, we suggest you buy and download our new comprehensive selfhelp guidebook, Mysteries of the Bowel Solved: Tan Colored Stools online for $1.99 at books.digestionreliefcenter.com. Urine Smells Of course asparagus is legendary for fouling the normal scent of our pee. It is widely known that the pungent odor comes from release of sulfurous
compounds resulting from digesting asparagus. What is not as widely known is that only 50 percent of folks have the gene that can detect the odor. The lucky ones, eh? Basically, if things are working normally, most fresh urine does not have a strong smell. Odorous urine may result from concentrated urine, which may smell ammonia-like because of dehydration. Urinary tract infections may emit a foul odor as may vitamins, which can alter not only the color but the odor of urine. Finally, a sweet berrylike smell may be an indication of diabetes. As our bodies work to regulate our blood sugar, it produces ketones, giving our urine a fruity odor. Diabetic-prone folks also urinate more frequently as the body works harder to expel excessive glucose though increased urination. Urine Looks Bubbles or foamy urine may be caused by either an urgent jet stream of urine (not a problem) or it may be a sign that there is excessive protein in the urine (a problem). Healthy kidneys are able to filter all but a small amount of proteins. But if the kidneys become damaged, protein enters the urine, creating a foamy or bubbly texture.

Dr. Gayle Kimball Tune in to KZFR 90.1, where “Ask Dr. Gayle” broadcasts 6-7pm the second Thursday of each month. Q: I was thinking about all of my relationships. I figured out that in all of them except one, the woman had a father who was estranged, negligent, abusive, or a combination. What does that mean? A: Codependents feel that if they take care of a wounded bird it will love them and stay with them. Being the stronger one may feel safe, in that we won’t get overpowered. Neo-Freudian Karen Horney theorized that men do tend to have a fear of being engulfed by a woman, as life giver, primary parent, and during intercourse. Your task is to pay attention to the warning signs before you repeat the familiar and see if you feel uncomfortable around a strong, independent woman.
Gayle Kimball has a PhD in Religious Studies, UCSB. Author of Energy Tools book, DVDs, and CDs and a dozen other books. Her recent books are about how global youth are transforming our future. To ask a question for this column, contact EarthHavenChico@hotmail.com.

Q: Objectively, I have a good life, but I don’t feel happy. What’s up? A: The positive psychology science of happiness reports on what makes us happy. About half is genetic, about 10 percent is environmental— circumstances such as poverty can inhibit happiness—and 40 percent is our attitude and actions. Even after experiencing something wonderful or terrible, we return near our set point. Scientists found that we can train our brains to feel happier because of the 40 Q: I suffered from anxiety and percent category, so that feeling happy is depression and didn’t respond to a skill. Q: I work in a job where I’m changing tires in a shop without enough mechanics, so our customers get irritated with waiting and with me and I feel unappreciated. What can I do? A: Smile and do active listening, saying something such as, “I know it’s frustrating to wait.” Start collecting jokes to tell your customers. The unconscious mind doesn’t know the difference between intention and reality, so give yourself praise after every job you complete as if you were the appreciative customer. Evidence of this is when a hypnotherapist tells the subject she’s putting a cigarette on his skin, and his body reacts with a blister even when it’s really just a pencil. Q: I’m starting a new job that requires learning many new systems quickly. How can I keep from being anxious? A: Carry around a notebook with colored tabs for different systems or a tablet and write down procedures as your boss teaches them. Frequently take long slow exhalations to calm the reactive parasympathetic system. Do cross-crawls, touching opposite elbow to knee to keep balanced and clear thinking. Put a reminder sticker on your devices so that you remember to breathe, including a calming breath in which you breathe in with your tongue on the roof of the mouth and blow out with your tongue on the floor of the mouth. Tell yourself, “I have all the time in the world.” www.lotusguide.com

What You Think of You
Is None of Your Business
M
By Dr.Terry Cole-Whittaker
y first published book, What You Think of Me Is None of My Business, is still selling quite well and this pleases me, because the basic theme is: to trust yourself and your own inner knowing and wisdom, instead of allowing anyone or anything to control, direct, or determine what happens to you. My motivation for writing the book was to offer others—from my own experience of giving my powers of choice and so on over to others in exchange for their love, appreciation, and care—what I did to change my consciousness and change my circumstances. It had always been about wanting people to like me, and this is what it’s about for countless others, especially those seeking likes, thumbs-up, and having hundreds of so-called cyberfriends, who aren’t. What I finally came to realize from my personal experience is that the secret of being truly satisfied is being satisfied in one’s self, tasting the nectar of supreme pleasure of the soul and trusting our divine wisdom. Giving others, regardless of who they think they are, the power over us never turns out well, because we are agreeing that we are not able, denying our connection with our source, and making others more powerful and divine than we are. This is why what you think of you
is none of your business, because these thoughts have nothing to do with you, your authentic self. The key that unlocks the treasure chest of abundance is your own discernment, knowing the distinction between your self and the mind. I suggest, if you aren’t already doing this, to be a witness, an observer of how your mind works and also how the minds of others operate. Notice what happens when you attempt to stop the thoughts. As you know, the act of writing words is called cursive and we spell words. We have replaced the divine, our connection with source, what I call my beloved within, with drawings on paper called letters that have a numerical number from which belief systems, laws, and rules are made. Words are pronounced and the sound vibration, along with the person’s intention, emotional state, and level of faith in his or her thoughts being real and true, trickle down through the dimensions and manifest before us. It’s not a good idea to believe and take to heart, as if true, the words flowing out of the mouth of those who do not have a clue as to who they really are, how this world works, or how disturbing their cruel and depowering words and attitude are to anyone who is unaware of mind programming and the purpose of words in this 3D reality that we call the real world. Making words matter, they take form in materiality/matter. Literally, thoughts are things. It’s all about our choices in each moment of now. The key is to remember that whatever is contained in our memories of the past or our expectations and hopes of future benefits are simply thoughts,
images, and beliefs, when each one of us is an eternal spirit soul creator being. You have a mind; you are not a mind. Most people believe they are a mind and believe and follow their thoughts, thus placing thoughts in command in the place of God within and you. When the word is God, where is the real supreme being source? Where are you? English was deliberately crafted as a spell-casting language in order that humans police, entrap, and engage themselves beyond question in their own prisons of the mind. Free yourself! Now, what about thinking and why is it important to know what you are manifesting, producing with words that are simply made of letters, and with each letter having a numerical value? Let’s take a look at John 1.1, which states, “In the beginning was the word, the word was with God and the word was God.” In the beginning of this creation, before the word, was the someone who created the word and spoke it, gave it life as vibration and light. The word was with God, meaning the word was accepted and believed, making the word “God” absolute in that reality, when in the authentic eternal reality, we are part of the absolute; therefore, our nature is the truth, the absolute. This 3D realm is generated by duality, positive and negative, like and dislike, an energy battery. This generates doubt, confusion, and conflict within the person who is being tossed between opposites, divided against one’s true, divine self and others. Overcoming doubt is the challenge; therefore, immerse yourself in hearing, reading, and speaking truth. You are absolute truth and the outer is always the effect, the reflection of one’s consciousness.

Time is a concept, so creation did not ever happen in the past, only now, and it is going on now, manifesting all around us, through us, by the acceptance and agreement with the mental concepts being broadcast via the mind—dare I say it—machine. Words are sounds, sounds are vibrations, vibrations are energy, and energy glows. Because we emanate our spiritual energy, this becomes electric in this reality. I know this may seem farfetched given what we have been taught to believe about ourselves and what is possible for us, until we dig deep and do our research into who and what we really are. Then all falls into place effortlessly and graciously. We know that this reality is based and built of electricity, sound. The someone or something that made this reality is named God. Which god, I ask? And the word was made and used by this God, and then the word becomes God, the source, the creator, the big deal. No way
are words superior to you in any way, unless you agree that words are true, especially about you, when they are just sounds, letters, or squiggles on paper and meaning given to us. Where are these thoughts originating? Notice what thoughts trigger you and why you are giving these thoughts power over you. Are you making these thoughts, made of words with definitions and meanings, your God? Do you trust yourself and your knowing as true beyond a shadow of a doubt, or the mind? Are you giving in to peer pressure to be normal and like everyone else so that you fit in, belong, and are successful according to whomever is judging you. This is usually your very own mind used as a weapon of terror. Make a list of all the words that you use to describe yourself. Notice the words that get a response from you, that generate fear, that you do not want to hear. Are you worried about being criticized and judged? Well, you are, because this is what minds do, especially your own, stopping and punishing you. Notice your trigger words that get your goat, so to speak, that depress you, that make you angry or even feel good. What words do you use to describe you? What words do you not want to hear from others? What words stop you? What are the core limiting beliefs that have become your obstacles? We have been taught to do what our so-called authorities dictate to us concerning who and what we are, what is possible and not possible, as well as the laws and the rules made by others that we are to follow. Never say, “Someone should make something a law.” Stop giving your powers to others to protect and maintain you while in the material realm, as this
only serves to enslave you and reinforces the lie that you are powerless. When we have been habituated to stop and depower ourselves and others by believing in the fear and guilt-based thoughts spewing forth continuously through the mind, getting control is our greatest challenge, because the mind knows exactly what to say to discourage, depress, and generate fear and loathing. When we take the position of the witness, the observer, all becomes clear. Now the task is for us to dump self-doubt and the narratives being broadcast at us from every media outlet and our own thoughts to make us succumb to fake overlords, whether they are family members, friends, or anyone demanding that we agree with the false narratives of lack, loss, death, and continual suffering, fear, and guilt. Why give your powers to others, including any organization, or anything human made when you are beyond all of this as a godlike eternal being? I did not say that we are the big deal supreme being. It’s that we have to be like our source for what could we be, other than like our source. In the same way, various garments can be made from the same bolt of fabric; each is also different, special, beautiful, and unique. BE-U-TO-THE-FULL. Interview with Kathy Zavada
T
his is an interview with Kathy Zavada, the minister of the Unity Church of Oroville. We’re going to dive right in and I’m going to take a few excerpts from the interview, which can be viewed on our YouTube channel at www.YouTube.com/LotusGuide. I also interviewed Kathy for my Spiritual Activist radio show at BBSradio.com/spiritualactivist. We covered a lot of territory in the interview so I highly suggest you watch and listen to the whole interview when you get a chance. Lotus Guide: So what brought you here to the Unity Church in our area?
Kathy Zavada: I came here to guest speak about a year ago and I’ve been traveling around for about 25 years all over the country. I came here and I love this community; it’s loving and warm and they said they needed a minister. I’ve been touring for years and the idea of being here took hold and here I am. Now I feel like I’m part of the family, part of the community, and we all feel like we’re in this together. LG: It seems to me that the only way you can see what is limited in our world is to push the boundaries of even what we call beliefs. The way I’m looking at the world right now, it appears like we are in trouble on one level. This very well could be the chaos in between systems and if that’s the case, it’s important to embrace the chaos. If you look closely you can see that something is emerging; call it a sacred reality or transformation. KZ: Two of my heroes are Martin Luther King and Gandhi. They both believed in a quiet revolution with a lot of consciousness and a commitment

to nonviolence. I actually spoke on that last month, and how taking action is so important. Putting love into action and talking about social justice is a large part of my message. Part of our work here is uprooting the subconscious patterns, behaviors, and conditioning. If we can do this we awaken our true potential. We have possibilities that we haven’t even imagined yet. LG: And this can really get uncomfortable at times. Some of the patterns that we’re stuck in actually create more unconsciousness. I remember Joe Dispenza wrote a book, Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself with the subtitle How to Lose Your Mind and Create a New One; this can be difficult.
Jewelry Artisans-
Rahasya Uncensored (Here we get into the Fibonacci sequence and how nature itself is stepping into the mystery one step at a time.) KZ: It is uncomfortable to change ourselves and that requires a lot of inner reflection, humility, and the willingness to look at yourself honestly. And to sit down with someone else and ask, “How do you see me?” takes a lot of courage. I have a degree in psychology and I’ve been looking at what is actually stored in the subconscious. This is where our habits and patterns and conditioning are to be found. I like Joe Dispenza’s teaching because he gets into how meditation can actually change your brain waves and calm down our nervous system. LG: I found out while doing Satsang meditations that every time I would find a quiet place in my mind, there was an ego personality, an identity that would step in and say, “Ah, I’m in that quiet place in my mind.” Of course at that point you’re back in the mind again. I realized rather quickly how deceptive our mind can be and why this takes a lot of work. (At this point, Kathy tells about an awakening experience she had while staying at Brighton Bush in Oregon. I truly hesitate to even attempt to put this into words so you need to listen to the full interview. I went on to talk about how I don’t exactly resonate with organized belief systems, so this is where Kathy responds.) KZ: There is such a difference between intellectual understanding and true experience. I actually like Buddhism and did a two-year seminary in which I studied all the world religions. Through my own experience I have seen that truth can be found in all religions. I really like Buddhism because their teaching says, “Don’t take it from me; check it out for yourself.” They lean toward having a direct experience
before you believe in anything. LG: I think as we go through life we realize the importance of every passing moment because it’s within those moments that we have experiences that change the direction of our lives. KZ: I can trace this back to when my mother took me to an audition and the teacher realized that music would be a big part of my life, and that obviously set me off on a course where music was very important. LG: I would like to get your thoughts on this. I’ve been reading a little of the philosophy of Hegel and he says whenever you come up with an idea or thought it inevitably creates the polar opposite. He says that it’s really important to realize that that polar opposite isn’t necessarily right or wrong, good or bad, it’s just the inevitable manifestation of the original thought. He brings up the point that the truth inevitably lies between these polar opposites and how we get to the truth comes about through open, truthful communication, or conversation. Most disagreements are a disagreement based upon a perspective that inevitably traces back to a person’s own personal experiences. (We talk a little about the Internet and the algorithms on search engines that are set up specifically to give us search results based only upon our original questions. This has alienated so many people. We also talked about the analogy of waking from a dream, Christ consciousness, and the need for religions to evolve.)
KZ: Well, we’re to the point where religions need to evolve so they don’t become obsolete. I actually love Unity because it’s not a religion, it’s a philosophy. I feel that religion is evolving and we are waking up. I love it when Joe Dispenza says that to enter the field you have to enter as nobody and no thing and let go of basically everything. I believe the true awakening is awakening to the truth that you are more than this body, you are infinite awareness. We can hold onto our identity and play roles; this is part of life. This is part of the play, Maya, but the problem is that we forget we are playing and we become identified with the roles that we play. Michael Sanger once said that we are a third chakra planet and what we need to do now is evolve to the fourth chakra, which is the heart. A n I nterview with
Lewis Elbinger
California Congressional CandidAte
L
et me say this right up front—I had almost given up on politics and politicians until I heard Bernie Sanders speak in Chico last year. I was once again enthused about the possibility that people can make a change. Of course we all know what happened next; the political machinery stepped in and Bernie was cheated. Admittedly, this was discouraging and once again I started losing hope … until this kind and gentle soul who lives in Mount Shasta contacted me. It would require far too much space in our magazine to list all of the things that Lewis Elbinger has accomplished in his lifetime. What you’re about to read is a short transcription of an interview I did with Louis for my radio show. You can watch the entire interview on our YouTube channel: www.YouTube.com/Lotusguide. You can visit Lewis’s website at www.LewisElbingerForCongress.com. Lotus Guide: How are you doing, Lewis, and what are you up to? Lewis Elbinger: All is well, Rahasya, and I’m running for office. I’m running for
the office of U.S. representative for the congressional district of California. This is after 28 years in the State Department, so it’s been a journey. LG: I have to tell you something, Lewis. I have all but given up on politics. Bernie Sanders came along and ignited a little bit of hope but then the system, I feel, cheated him. But then we have to be reminded of that old saying, “All it takes for bad people to do bad things is for good people to do nothing.” I think that’s where we are today; good people need to start getting out, getting off the couch, and getting active in our society. At this point we’re paying a heavy price because in my opinion, we’ve let the crazies take over the asylum. But the good news is, this is starting to wake people up from their apathy. And I think waking up and evolving to a higher level of consciousness is the only solution I can see. LE: I agree completely. Bernie ignited a fire in us. Bernie won 10 of the 11 counties in our area. He had 50,000 votes in our area, which is 5,000 votes more than Hillary received. What that tells me is that there are 50,000 people like me who don’t feel like they’re being represented in the halls of Congress. At that point I looked around and I thought that surely somebody is going to step up and represent us and quickly realized if I don’t step up and take
action it’s not going to get done. There are a minimum of 50,000 people in this district that are my base and many of them are young people. I’m running on the Green Party because there are many Democrats and Republicans who feel like they’re not being represented either, along with many people who aren’t voting for the same reason. I also believe that Bernie was cheated and this is brought out really well in Donna Brazile’s book, Hacked, which talks about the shenanigans that went on in the Democratic National Committee. For all of these reasons I feel, as you do, that it’s time for good people to get up and start taking action so it can start correcting the problems that we see. LG: So what are some of the first things that you would do, Lewis, in Congress? Because you and I both know that you can’t go in like gangbusters; it seems like you need to start making small changes and most of all, getting people connected and communicating again. LE: I’m glad you asked that question. There’s something called the Congressional Progressive Caucus. There are 73 members and it and Bernie Sanders as a senator is connected with it. I would take my lead from the members in Congress who are already working on the issues that I care about and that Bernie Sanders is putting forward. It’s like

Rahasya Uncensored walking in to a movie that’s in progress; you need to find out what the plot is and who the characters are first. I have lots of experience with this because I’ve worked in embassies and consulates around the world for 28 years. If I go into a new country with new assignments, I don’t start making changes right away. It’s important to know what’s been going on in the past, to know their culture. This would be my approach, to come in as an ally and take my lead from the Bernie Sanders campaign. LG: That sounds sensible, and like the old saying goes, “Seek first to understand, then to be understood.” So Lewis, how many languages are you familiar with? LE: Well, my bachelor’s degree is in Linguistics. I’ve studied eight languages. I studied Russian for one year, which was useful when I was in Turkmenistan when I was the administrative officer at the U.S. Embassy there. I studied Chinese because I wanted to read the Tao Te Ching in the original language. I also speak some Arabic and Hindi and when I was in an ashram in India I learned to read Sanskrit, and of course a little bit of French and German. LG: Learning to speak other languages is really important if you want to understand the deeper essence of what’s meant. I’m in the process of learning Portuguese because my wife is from Brazil, and I noticed that it’s really true; when you learn a different language you actually rewire your brain in such a way that you can understand the people and their ideas much better than just a simple translation to your own language. One of the things we need to do here in the United States is to think differently so we can start understanding the global
community that we’re part of but in so many ways, separate from. LE: That’s absolutely true, Rahasya, and I consider myself fortunate to have been able to travel all over the world; I consider
myself a planetary citizen. I’ve not only been able to speak their language, I’ve eaten their food and been able to listen to them with an open heart. When you’re able to do that it’s much easier to have sympathy and compassion for other people. This is why I see my candidacy as bridging the polarized gap in this country. I have three messages: “Government with heart, vote your conscience, and bridging the divide.” This will enable us to take the best ideas from the left and the right and come up with solutions that satisfy both parties. LG: Lately I’ve been reading a little bit of philosophy from Hegel. He talks about the fact that when you come up with an idea it inevitably creates a polar opposite. And we have the tendency to think that the opposite is wrong or incorrect but more often than not, that’s not the case. He brings up the fact that this is why communication is so important because ultimately, the best answers and solutions come from the communication of opposite ideas. LE: This makes sense to me because we have the thesis in the antithesis and by bringing those together we have a synthesis. This is the harmony that we’re all searching for. Truth be told, people are Sunday Celebration Service 10am - Guided Meditation 9:30am tired of arguing in this constant conflict going on
in government. This is exactly what I mean by “government with heart.” These are the qualities that we want to bring to government, harmony and balance. I know from traveling around the world for most of my life that there’s more that unites us than divides us. Most people are generally kind and compassionate and empathetic, and I know this from my own personal experience. LG: OK, Lewis, let’s say that you are voted into Congress and I think we can agree that the system is broken and to a large extent corrupt at this point. You’re obviously going to be dealing with obstacles, and you’re going to be asked to make compromises. And here’s the problem as I see it, Lewis. The people in Washington are really good at getting new people to make small compromises and inevitably those small compromises open the door to larger ones and can be held against you later. So my question is, “How susceptible do you think you will be to compromise?” Final Thoughts from Lotus Guide: We are a bit limited in editorial space, which is unfortunate because the answers that Lewis gives on this and many other questions clearly show that there is a lifetime of wisdom and experience behind him. The good thing is that Lewis is not alone; we are meeting more and more people in the community who are realizing they need to take action because if we wait to be “reactive” it’s usually too late. We need to be proactive and get out ahead of what’s coming at us, which is a total collapse of government, finances, environment, and if we’re not careful, civilization itself. Lewis and I talked about many topics that are traditionally taboo to talk about in the political and public realms. Normally if you bring up topics such as vaccinations, UFOs, geoengineering, or a long list of other topics that people just don’t want to hear about, you are pushed into the fringe groups, but as Bob Dylan said, “Times, they are a changin’.” Lewis is going to be on my radio show at BBSradio.com/SpiritualActivist, and you can always watch this entire interview on our YouTube channel at YouTube.com/LotusGuide. www.lotusguide.com

A Well-Informed Citizenry Changes Everything
O
nce again I find myself in the precarious situation of writing about what’s going on in the world around us. Partially because of the position I’m in as a publisher and also having a radio show, and partially because of my tenacious desire to know what’s going on in the world, I find myself writing this article to inform our readers who may not have the opportunity or the time to look into these situations. I think Martin Luther King put it well when he said, “You may be 38 years old, as I happen to be. And one day, some great opportunity stands before you and calls you to stand up for some great principle, some great issue, some great cause. And you refuse to do it because you are afraid. … You refuse to do it because you want to live longer. … You’re afraid that you will lose your job, or you are afraid that you will be criticized or that you will lose your popularity, or you’re afraid that somebody will stab you, or shoot at you or bomb your house; so you refuse to take the
stand. Well, you may go on and live until you are 90, but you’re just as dead at 38 as you would be at 90. And the cessation of breathing in your life is but the belated announcement of an earlier death of the spirit.” There are many questions in life that we may never answer, questions such as, “Who am I? and What happens when I die?” but the one question we can answer to some extent is, “Why am I here?” For me the answer is becoming more simple the older I get—I want to make the world around me a better place and to pass on information that I find credible … no matter what the cost. So, here are a few things to think about that are going on and have been going on that I find credible. The first thing to consider is the “fact” that nothing happens by accident; there has been and is a plan and here’s one of many examples. The other day I met a young girl, about 19, who had a copy of Behold a Pale Horse written by William Cooper. She was amazed that
a book that was published in 1991 with detailed information that went back decades could be so accurate in predicting the world we live in today. I asked her to think of this—either William Cooper was a psychic extraordinaire or he was privy to top-secret information that was part of a “plan.” Cooper was a United States Naval Intelligence Briefing Team member and had access to top-secret government files since the 1940s. If you ever have the chance to read this book, which I highly suggest, you will see that everything is working according to a plan; a little research into what’s on the back of our dollar bill should convince almost anyone that this plan has been in effect for many years. But here’s where it gets a little strange. Basically, the plan isn’t working. If you look around at our world you will see that we are in the midst of something that looks very much like extreme chaos. As an example, let’s look at a few things that are

Rahasya Uncensored going on in our world today, and please stay with me on this because believe it or not there’s a positive twist to everything that I’m pointing out. • We officially live in an oligarchy, according to the studies that have been done at five top universities in the United States. What this simply means is that if you have a lot of money, you can even become president. • We have mountains of nuclear waste piling up by the day at the same time we have viable alternative-energy systems that could eventually change everything but that are being suppressed by the fossil-fuel corporations. • Although I can see glimmers of hope, our broadcast and print news outlets are nothing more than entertainment for the explicit purpose of creating great profits, maintaining their ratings, and keeping their corporate masters satisfied. This is not journalism; in fact it’s not even moral. • At the same time that we have 20,000 scientists sounding the alarm over climate change, we have world governments turning a blind eye to the fact that something is going on.
• While the science is clear that fluoride is a toxic substance, there are still several countries, ours included, that dump millions of gallons of this toxic substance into the public water systems. • Now that many people are starting to look up and see that our skies are filled with toxic chemicals such as aluminum oxide, strontium, and barium, the government has finally admitted to several geoengineering programs to combat the environmental situation (that it says doesn’t exist), which is climate change and global warming. • The United States has a military that’s just as large as the 10 largest militaries combined on our planet, and we are still spending billions of dollars on the military industrial complex while millions live in poverty and are homeless worldwide and our soldiers who are risking their lives are not being taken care of while on the battle field or here at home. If soldiers are willing to risk their lives to protect us, we need to do our part and make sure they are fighting for the right reasons and being taken care of when they return home. • We still have well-meaning parents and doctors who simply will not look at the evidence regarding vaccinations, even when people such as William Thompson, the CDC researcher, became a whistleblower trying to warn people of the dangers. We will never know if vaccinations are safe or dangerous if we don’t take the time to do our own research into this
situation and take a critical look at the science. • The oceans are heating up and rising from the melting of the Arctic and Antarctic ice. This list is much too long to include everything but I’m sure you get my point … we are in troubled times and are drowning in disinformation from entertainment media whose product is made to look like news and that are basically owned by five corporations who have a definite agenda. But here comes the good news that I’m sure by now you’ve been waiting for. In my interview with Barbara Marx Hubbard, she said, “We are at the tip of the tipping point,” meaning that every little thing we do now is having an effect in our world. People are waking up and realizing that the days when good people didn’t need to do anything are over. We are in this mess because we’ve allowed sociopaths and people with extreme narcissistic tendencies to take control of our lives. This kind of person tends to have a low level of consciousness, craves people’s attention, wants to be admired, and always needs to be or appear to be in control and have power. So please, read the articles in this magazine from your neighbors and friends letting you know what they are doing, and get out and take action with spiritual awareness, compassion, and armed with good information. I leave you with these quotes: “A well-informed citizenry is the best defense against tyranny.” —Thomas Jefferson “The well-informed citizenry is in danger of becoming the ‘well-amused audience’”— Ralph Nader

Family-Owned BBS Radio Pioneers of Internet Talk Radio Connecting Independent Minds
NOTE from Lotus Guide: I think we all know how challenging it can be in today’s world to run a business; we all face similar difficulties in that regard. But when you have a business that runs on the latest technology, which is constantly evolving, this is another level of challenges altogether. We are very proud to introduce you to a family-owned business that is in our own backyard here in Northern California. Having a “familyowned business” can have yet another level of challenges, but when they are met and overcome … magic can happen. Doug and Donald’s magic doesn’t stop here, though. They are on their way to being the first totally green Internet radio company doing its part in reducing its environmental footprint and, at the same time, giving a voice to so many people who also want to help change the world, myself being one of those people.
-Rahasya Uncensored —The Spiritual Activist Radio Show
By Doug Newsom, Cofounder and CEO of BBS Radio
I
f you could change the world for the better, and it took very little effort, would you? Do you think about it? Do you ever muse over the human condition, the health of the planet, the well-being of animals, the disconnect between government and society, and the fear that so many have, and wonder what can be done about it? Even a little? Would you do something if you could, if it were fun, inexpensive, and life changing? What would that look like? For Donald and me (the founders of BBS Radio), it was Internet radio! It gave Donald and me the ability to change the lives of our hosts, listeners, and ourselves! BBS Radio began in 2003 as Blogin Service, a website where people were encouraged to blog about anything and everything. Yet notably, many of the bloggers seemed genuinely compelled to write only about information that could uplift the human heart and would affect people in a positive way. To facilitate this, a bulletin board system was created in 2003. In 2004, because of a strong desire and a sense of urgency by a few
bloggers to record and broadcast their interesting phone conversations with the founder of BBS Radio (Donald Newsom) live to a worldwide audience, Blogin Broadcasting Services came into being (abbreviated BBS). The world was still coming to grips with 9/11 and great change was afoot. People wanted answers and others were looking to assist. Ultimately, the company was born of a desire by consciously aware individuals to share their knowledge far and wide. BBS Radio now is recognized as one of the very first networks in the world to provide live, remotely engineered, interactive radio broadcasting over the Internet and to take live listener calls. In 2005, the domain bbsradio.com was acquired, and in February 2006 the company was incorporated as BBS Network. All great systems seem to grow from organic manifestations trying to address a perceived need, and twin brothers Donald and Douglas Newsom, both having recently experienced unique, life-changing, metaphysical experiences (after years of meditation), recognized the importance of a media network that was not mainstream, a

I
The Golden Road Radio & TV Show Transforming into the New Paradigm
By Michael DiMartino
n 1992 I graduated and was ordained by the New Seminary for Interfaith ministry in Manhattan, New York. It was an innovative three-year school for religious studies, metaphysics, psychology, and spirit, mind, and body healing. It was a highly advanced curriculum created to give individuals a perennial understanding of the influence of religion and traditions and how they shape people’s beliefs and values. Upon completion of the program, followed by extensive travel, I became even more hyperaware that these philosophies had and how they forged the foundations of global societies and civilizations for millennia. I had an opportunity to experience directly how the different environments people are exposed to actually cultivated their relationships to their universe. It also showed me that the wisdom of these cultures and the constituencies who subscribe to them, or are indoctrinated to that particular perspective or specific truth, tend to believe theirs is the best or the only way to reach the highest attainable state of being. During these various experiences I also came to my own personal understanding that in reality, there are many effective paths to enlightenment or awakened-ness. One Great Spirit/ Creator/God/Goddess but many paths. I also discovered the duality of the two basic paths to that state of awareness. One is rooted in the idea of transcending all obstacles to attain spiritual fulfillment while others use these obstacles/distractions or worldly experiences to transform their spiritual nature and relationship to their world. The transcendentalist avoids or renunciates the worldly to maintain a undistracted and disciplined sense of inner peace or highest self. The transformationalists have chosen the tantric path of believing that the all-encompassing human senses (see, hear, smell, touch, and taste) are the pathways to reach the highest self. Both paths eventually bring the practitioner to the same ultimate unified reality, to fully ‘Be Here Now” and fully awakened. In the present now, I have also awakened to another reality of not just being present and in the moment, but how to notice by insight and intuition the signs of the accelerated changes that are occurring and how to prepare for them. The concept of right place and right time bring forth a portal for another level of envisioning and quantum manifestation. Like in the imaginal cells of the moth turning to a butterfly, we understand a metamorphosis is happening but we are not exactly clear of the outcome. Unfortunately, many prophets and seers claim to know what the future will be but I beg to differ. I do because of the new scientific discoveries and metaphysical teachings that eventually

intertwine in their wisdom. We have evolved to understand the reality of quantum entanglement. That is that every thought, action, and reaction in the Now together create the next moment. Even the most accurate prophecies and predictions are only road signs to guide us to the sane solution as opposed to the apocalyptic or self-destructive alternatives. Regardless of whatever religion or path you perceive as truth, the time to unify is now. In an age of self-absorption and narcissism we need to cultivate the paradigm of cooperation. This can be in our own home, neighborhood, town, or bioregion. We need to wake up to the reality of our interdependence on each other and the natural world that supports and provides for us. What happens to a tree if we water only our own leaf but fail to nourish the collective roots? Has this journey of individuation led us to separation? Alienation? Lack of compassionate communication? Or even the paradox of a technological reality of an integrated global singularity? We must be here now but simultaneously prepare for the afterculture, the global reality after the inevitable and significant changes that will occur in the next five to 20 years. Mother Nature and the planet will endure even if the majority of humanity doesn’t. This message was echoed recently when a low-flying goose flew into a power line and took down the electric grid for a day. Mother Nature reminded us of the delicate web of convenience that technology has provided. Our dependencies and conveniences were crippled by a single bird. That was a real-time reminder of the big picture and the power of nature to change everything in a heartbeat. The point of this article is that we are all heading to the same destiny. Our history is being rewritten based on the present discoveries being unearthed. The important role and balance of the feminine energy and women in society is being honored and renewed. Religions are trying to adapt or perish. Diversity is being embraced, not feared. Health is embracing what is natural. Be aware of the signs all around you that point to great change. Know your neighbors and collaborate to create a sustainable and regenerative community. Know where your food and water come from.We can’t use the same system that creates the breakdown to fix it. For this reason we created the Source Directory that is launching this spring. This online resource will be people and projects focused on community building and sustainability: www.TheSourceDirectory.org. Be here now—Envision the future—Heal your past— Live every day as if it’s your last—Follow your bliss— Express your truth humbly and creatively— Love wholeheartedly—Be kind—Be authentic— Align with spirit—And dance, dance, dance.
