• Kids Comp Camp is a digital literacy initiative that seeks to front the spread of digital literacy amongst kids living in rural and marginalized communities in Africa. • This event is organized by African Centurion - a social intervention initiative that aims at using knowledge transfer as a formidable tool in fighting Africa’s Big 3: Ignorance, Poverty and Sickness, among African youths.

• The project begins in Machakos County. A few kilometres away from Nairobi • Masii Township Primary School has agreed to host us. Masii Christian Chapel has partnered with us to mobilize the community

towards the project. So far 60 Kids have signed up; we project the number to expand to 80. 20 volunteers’ trainers have confirmed their attendance; we project the number to grow to 30. We have

secured 20 training machines.

• KidsComp camp program works with the following goals in mind: 1. Spark interest, among young learners with no prior experience on computers, to digital technology through equipping them with basics of digital literacy skills. 2. With the skills gained, it enables them to access more resources, information, and knowledge via digital platforms whether online or offline. 3. Enable young learners in marginalized communities to effectively use the growing digital technology to create utilities such as productive time of learning and leisure. • This is achieved by the following Job Description that the intern is supposed to work on. • There is also a well planned curriculum for the EPs to follow daily to aid them in teaching

1) Conduct kids comp camp sessions. The targeted age for this program is 10 to 14. 2) Conduct basic literacy clubs. Major challenges facing young learners in marginalized communities include ability to read and write, confidence and self-expression. These clubs aim to instil these skills among the learners. The targeted age for this is 7 to 10. 3) Involvement in Community service. This might include giving motivational talks to high school students, community environmental exercises e.g planting trees, clean ups

START DATE: 6th April 2015. END DATE: 31st December 2015. DURATION: Minimum 6 weeks, Maximum 12 weeks. TN FEE: 50 Euros DISCOUNT OF 10 EUROS FOR EACH EP COMING IN A GROUP OF 5 EPS • NUMBER OF OPPORTUNITIES: 24 opportunities per 6 weeks cycle. • TRANSPORT: The school is 5 minutes away from the guest house therefore the EP will only need transport to move from Nairobi city to the project site. Which will cost 4 Dollars or 4 Euros per trip. Frequency of how much the EP will come to the City will depend on the EP but advised to during the weekends so as to interact with AIESECers. We also will visit the EPs at the town they’re staying. • WORKING HOURS: 9am-3pm (changes according to the daily program).

• In this project, the accommodation is different as stated in the Reception Booklet. • The project is taking place out of Nairobi and therefore the EPs will stay in another town at a guest house, the accommodation will be 500 Shillings a day, which equates to 21,000 shillings for the entire six weeks, translating to 216 Euros. • Food, three meals a day is 500 Shillings as well, but you can choose to buy/cook your own food. NB: THE ACCOMMODATION FEE IS STILL UNDER NEGOTIATION AND WE AIM TO MAKE IT AFFORDABLE FOR STUDENTS.

1) The program requires somebody who is passionate about working with young learners - under 14, living in Mashinani - rural communities. 2) The fact that we work among rural communities requires we conduct ourselves as per their values and expectations. The communities we are working with are conservative and religious - Christian Faith. This means you will be required to watch your conduct e.g. no suggestive dressing, language, behaviours such as public drinking, smoking, shouting etc. 3) The program strives to use this opportunity to enable young professional – Interns – to connect, inspire, motivate and mentor young learners living in underprivileged communities in areas of Mind-set, Attitude and Faith in God.

Ideally, most have never gone beyond their village and therefore their perspective of life is around their village. Therefore, most of the learners look up to the interns as role models and mentors and it is vital that the interns conduct themselves in a manner worth that role. 4) Typically, most of the learners struggle with confidence and selfexpression especially during the initial interactions but as the relationships grow they will start opening up. This requires patience and tolerance. 5) EPs are advised to carry their laptops.

• This is a project under health. We are working in various hospitals which are usually understaffed, or accept extra help needed. • Heart to Health project bridges this path by bringing in quality EPs who will help these hospitals and motivate these patients as this is something that is over-looked by the Kenyan staff. • In addition to working with nurses, the EP is counted on to be a friend to the patients and make them feel wanted and feel like they are cared for, which is something that helps a great deal in the recovery process of the intern. • The project is open to EPs with medical and non-medical experience. • The Job Description into: medical students vs non-medical students.

1. MEDICAL STUDENTS: • The EP will work hand in hand with the nurses of the hospital under their supervision, and a licenced doctor as well. They will also follow instructions given by their supervisors. • The EP will help in managing the pharmacy and keeping the records up to date.

• The rest of the Job Description is similar to that of a non-medical student. NB: PLEASE NOTE THAT EVEN THOUGH THE EPS ARE MEDICAL STUDENTS, THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PERFORM THE FUNCTIONS OF A NURSE SUCH AS ADMINISTERING MEDICINE AS THEY DO NOT HAVE A MEDICAL LICENCE AND WOULD BE AGAINST

In addition to listening they can refer patients’ concerns to staff members, if the patient wants them to. • Offer counselling to rape victims, HIV positive patients among others, under direction of the nurses.
