Motif Jali Pattern Documentation

Location and History

The pattern of the Jali is presently located in one of the main school of Aligarh Muslim University. The present building began to be constructed in 1909 and was named Minto Circle after Lord Minto the Viceroy of India. The School was given the new name of S.T.S High School in 1966 after Syedna Tahir Saifuddin, the Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University

Jali Drawing

Jali is made up of red sand stone dressed in Meerut district with a machine finish and geometrical Motif pattern. Jail pattern housed in the niche with Pointed Lancet arch. Brickwork is of stretcher bond along with the white cement pointing of 7mm.

Following sketch shows the various elements present in the Jali such as well defined Motif pattern, arches, jail frame, and brick layout in the arches. Guidelines define the exact position of elements in the main structure.
