Mimicking the shape and design of fan the three wings of fan imitates primary, pre primary, and activity zones of my school. And the central part of fan emulates the adminis-tration zone of school. Just like how the central bearer controls other wings of fan the other zones of schools are controlled by admin through centre.

2.0 is Kolkata reimagined as a hyper-resilient city that is not

One day i went with baba to see the work. They had a thick disc dropped in a small ground in the city. My baba and others set it up to make a huge 5-storey building.
10
The building was set up within a day. It was like a street that coiled to the sky. The house grids were covered with panels once the building framework was set.
11
I walked all the way to the top of the spring house on the sloped corridor. And the

The walls in my home is made of metal sheets. Baba told me that after he earns more money we will get wood/bamboo panels for our walls. He told the this panel is because they have to provide for a lot of people at the same time. But

Ma doesn’t even have to leave the building to get groceries. I also get to play with my new friends through out the entire building, while ma and her friends do crafts in the baraamda. We get water everyday, and we have proper toilets.

SALT LAKE STADIUM
The central core of the Spring House, contains all the services required for the building. It provides the space for toilets, stores, informal seating space, rainwater hervesting, storage etc. The residential units spiral around this core.

But there were a lot more people who couldn’t get these houses since there were no more land banks available. However there are canals in kolkata!
15
The bridge houses were built within a few days. Dada told me that they place the tower for a row of bridge houses.
BRIEF EAST KOLKATA WETLANDS

The provision of sanitation facilities, awareness and education provided, would see the decline in pollution levels. And as the design is based within the concrete environment itself, the natural systems like the wetlands and rivers are untouched and preserved.

various schemes laid out that target the urban poor to alleviate their living, the design becomes implementable with ease like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Housing for all), Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, AMRUT, National Urban Sanitation Policy, National Urban Livelihoods Mission, National Urban Transport Policy, etc. With the security of tenture and right to freedom from forced evictions,
their lives aren’t rehabilitated
by the design but revamped.

The design intervention sympathises with the displaced, and intergrates these new citizens with the existing urban matrix of the city. The design intends to uplift the lives of the refugees and provide a sustainable solution for the city of Kolkata. The sustainability of Kolkata probably does not lie in improvement of the poverty tenets but more on the legitimacy of patronizing the gentleman class.

Many tourists started coming to see the Spring houses and Bridge houses. While the spring houses were already connected to the city, the bridge houses were not. After seeing the tourism potential, the city provided trams to the bridge houses as well. Now, even i go on the smart trams to see my friends there. These trams were once part of Kolkata’s daily transport now, our housing has brought back its need in the modern commute. Everyone uses these tram to go around the city now, especially the tourists. They come to photograph us and our houses. So even our canals are cleaned and maintained by us. Before there were slum on the canal banks, well.
Now, a month later, all of us have a house to call home. Our new home is very much better than the one we used to live. We get water and electricity everyday. We also have closed toilets, which have proper drainage. Baba goes to work everyday, Ma along with her friends makes handicrafts to sell to the tourists. Dada goes to the training center and i go to school everyday. At the Spring House, it feels like we are on one street and one big family because everyone shares, knows and talks to each other.
G Sen trophy 2018-2019
These residential neighbourhoods portray the essence of the city. The ad-hoc and gradual transformations, they remain strangely static in collective memory.
5
Prioritizing participatory and human rights-based in-situ upgrading of housing; our design also accounts for job training and education which add to the future economic growth with an enabled and skilled human resource. They are empowered to develop their lives and are aware of their rights and oppurtunities.
The brief of 2018-19 GSEN trophy exhorts team to design a hyperresilient city. It was said that a crisis might happen in future which would result in sudden influx of one million people from a place. It is required to select one of the 53 agglomerations of india and understand the physical form, socio economic, socio cultural profile of city to lay down the crisis simultaneously to make the city resilient.

BRIEF The brief of 2017-16 GSEN trophy exhorts us to rethink the concept of city and push it to the most exaggerated form it could take. Team must choose a relevant context of a particular city and formulate an idealogical response based on it. The design is to be polemical, polarize the audience, ignite a debate and start a coversation- pushing the urban experience into much more concrete jungle , but a wide tapestry of ideas.
