HISTORIC THREE WAY TIE FOR LEAGUE TAG BEST & FAIREST

Three players were recognised as the George Tooke Shield Ladies League Tag Best and Fairest players at the CRRL McIntyre Medal night. Harden duo Emma James and Georgia Smith and Crookwell’s Annika Picker tied for the award after the three players enjoyed stellar seasons. Elsewhere, Harden’s Luke Brown claimed the prestigous Gavin Miller Shield as the Best and Fairest player in the George Tooke Shield.

The Hawks captain scored an incredible 27 tries to finish as the top try scorer in the competition during the course of the regular season. In Youth League there was another tie as Bailey Timmer from the Yass Magpies and Nicoloas Stephens from Haden Boorowa were awarded the Colin York Shield as the Best and Fairest players in the competition. It marks the second time Stephens has won the award after the playmaker was the sole recipient last year.

this December. Bissett, who is one of only nine Canberra Raiders life members, served on the CRRL committee for 21 years and was Chairman for 12 of them said that he believed it was the right time to retire. “I consider it a privilege to have served during these years,” Bissett said. “Rugby League people are good people and I have made many friends which I treasure very much. “I want to thank the Canberra Raiders, John McIntyre, Simon Hawkins and Don Furner for their confidence in appointing me as Chairman, I consider it an honour.”

CRRL General Manager Mark Vergano echoed Furner. “Noel has been an outstanding servant of our game over the years,” Vergano said. “It’s been an absolute pleasure to work alongside him these last three years and I wish him all the best for the future.” Bissett refereed 275 Country Rugby League matches, including 11 Grand Finals and was graded into the Winfield Cup, becoming the first Canberra referee to control First Grade in Sydney. As well as this, Bissett was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 2013 for his service to sport and rugby league.
