A Legacy You Can Trust Railey

The Railey family pioneered development and vacationing at Deep Creek Lake. C.M. Railey was one of the instrumental loggers who cleared the land to form the lake bed in the early 1900s. He would go on to open the first lakeside park at the lake and build cottages specifically for visitors to rent. Railey’s Cottages were a staple at Deep Creek Lake, along with the Stone Tavern, a restaurant and night-life hot spot. His son, James Railey Sr., carried on his entrepreneurial spirit, starting Railey Realty with his wife Violet in 1974.
