WORKS IN OIL
"The swirls in my paintings hold a symbolic connotation - there is a universal quality to them and as such, they are somewhat timeless and formless They come and go, captivating our perceptions of them even when they are motionless. To me they reflect the essence of being.”
- Dragica CarlinDragica Carlin is an independent painter who lives and works in London. She studied at Chelsea College of Art where she obtained a BA in painting, followed by a Masters degree.
In 2008 she was awarded the Abbey Painting Award, which led to an artist residency and fellowship at the British School in Rome Dragica works with galleries, dealers and art consultancies. Her artwork is regularly commissioned for prestigious corporate and residential projects globally.

Dark & Light Swirls, Series 2 Oil on canvasSPRING BLOSSOMS
‘I had already completed a degree in Interior Design and I was studying ceramics at London’s Royal College of Art when I broke a piece of laminated glass. Instead of seeing the breakage as a mistake, I was blown away by the results. I began smashing glass deliberately and putting light behind it I’ve been doing this type of artwork professionally for 20 years now, but if not for my accident with the glass sheet, I might well have been a ceramicist.’
- Yorgos Papadopoulos
Cypriot-born Papadopoulos is a true artist, but he’s not someone who fits description easily. ‘Glass is my canvas, hammers are my brushes,’ he says. And, in fact, his breathtakingly beautiful artworks are actually smashed sheets of glass that are treated with sandblasting, glass pigments, gold leaf, enamels, silicone gels and even – by accident
droplets of his own blood.

BEYOND THE EYE I
Victor Pasmore was a British painter, printmaker, and maker of constructions who was unusual in having achieved eminence as both a figurative and an abstract artist. After early experiments with abstraction he reverted to naturalistic painting, and in 1937 he combined with William Coldstream and Claude Rogers in forming the Euston Road School In the late 1940s he underwent a dramatic conversion to pure abstract art, and by the early 1950s he had developed a personal style of geometrical abstraction.
As well as paintings he made abstract reliefs, partly under the influence of Ben Nicholson. His earlier reliefs had a hand-made quality but later, in using transparent perspex, he gave them the impersonal precision and finish of machine products Through work in this vein he came to be regarded as one of the leaders of Constructivism in Britain. Later paintings are less austere and more organic.
Pasmore was an influential teacher, notably at King's College, Newcastle upon Tyne (now Newcastle University), where he was head of the painting department, 1954–61 The ‘basic design’ course he taught there (based on Bauhaus ideas) spread to many British art schools. He was also much concerned with bringing abstract art to the general public, notably as consulting director of urban design (1955–77) for the southwest area of Peterlee New Town, County Durham. His most personal contribution there is the Apollo Pavilion (1963–70), which he described as ‘an architecture and sculpture of purely abstract form’.
In his later career Pasmore was also a prolific printmaker. He won many honours and Kenneth Clark described him as ‘one of the two or three most talented English painters of this century’

NEW WORKS IN SOFT PASTEL
'When I look at unpeopled landscapes, empty rooms, or imagined spaces I am thinking about what has been left out, these omissions are often at the centre of why I make work‘
- Sam WoodGloucester Room is delighted to present a series of new works in oil paint and soft pastel on paper by artist and illustrator Sam Wood.
Since graduating from St Martins in 2012, Wood has established himself amongst a new generation of young British artists who are moving away from the recent dominance of abstract painting in contemporary art toward a new form of allegorical figuration
Central to Wood’s practice is the importance of drawing- both in dry and wet mediawhere broad brushstrokes of diluted oil paint underpin lyrical linework in soft pastel. The immediacy of Wood’s mark making demonstrates a highly responsive eye that captures any given subject with an economy of means Rendered in joyful, saturated colours the resultant works radiate effects of light that ripple across the paper, creating a sense of restless energy as lively as the natural subjects they depict.
Since 2018 Sam Wood has presented solo exhibitions with David Collins Studio and Shreeji News, with a forthcoming show at TM Gallery, Kings Cross in January 2023
Since 2018, he has worked collaboratively with luxury brands including Harrods, Liberty, Bryan O’Sullivan Studio, Atelier 27 – Paris, and Ennismore. He regularly undertakes large scale commissions for both corporate and residential projects and has work represented in private collections internationally.

HERBARIA SERIES
"My abstract paintings are inspired by calligraphy. My process is to dissect words, and their various elements, explore the study of positive and negative spaces and reconstruct them as new works By removing the need for symbols to convey a message, the work then begins to explore free space, time, movement and interconnectivity"‘
- Joanne YulanSince graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2001, Joanne Yulan Jong has worked as a fashion and textile designer, creative director and illustrator, dividing her time between Milan and London. Her design work has always been informed by her eye for simple, elegant forms and a restricted palette of colours.
Her passion for drawing, often with inks and charcoals, has led her back to creating art in its purest form - painting Her paintings and drawings, using traditional media such as inks, watercolours, charcoals and oils to industrial floor varnish, often reflect her Chinese heritage. She identifies herself, as an artist, using her Chinese name, Yulan.
Yulan’s latest series of works in oil on gesso panel, titled ‘Herbaria,’ demonstrate a transformation of her more calligraphic works into abstracted botanical studies that pay homage to the artist’s father- a renowned botanist - and his study of plant genetics from research trips to the forests of South East Asia
