LANSDOWNE HOUSING Course: Arch 292 Time: December 2016 Instructor: Adrian Blackwell Rhino, Vray for Rhino, Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign
The cooperative houisng locates between Landsdowne Avenue and St Clarence Avenue in downtown Toronto. With unique culture atmosphere and strong connection to the city transportation, Lansdowne housing has an amicable neighborhood. Cafe, antiquity shops, grocery shops composed this lively and vitally site. Right under the Lansdowne side, a metro station sits here silently. But the people in and out are hustling to their destination. And also a few people sits on the parterre next to the station and probably waiting their friend. The idea came from this secular scenario. Maybe we can build an Arcadia in the hustle and bustle but has an opening to the outside world of normal people. They all have their stories. Instead of separation and indifference in modern condominium, the building trying to build the patience and human interest between people. People can leave their stories in this building. The condominium not only shared space with the public, but also share their lives in this city.

FORM The form of it originals from Le Cobusier’s panel exercise and gradually formed the dynamic shape and provide privicy and plenty of light for residence . The building is consisted of 2 main shapes: cuboid and cube. The space here is more potential to create some beautiful moments while people moving along the roof garden and corridors.

FLOOR PLANS Scale 1:500 Each box consists of 2 floors. Boxes overlop on each other and created large amount of roof gardens, building adorable outdoor public space in the neibourhood.
FLOOR PLANS Scale 1:500 Families are sharing communal kitchen on the center on their first floor and having their private living room. On the second floor are more private spaces like bedrooms.

The space here is more potential to create some beautiful moments while people moving along the roof garden and corridors. Communal kichen is also another attractive space in the unit, combining people by its own existance and offer them a warm and sweet experience. The unit has a sliding wall and pivot door to fold and unfold the space inside of the family, give the refugee families more chance to grow, change and adpat themselves to the Postfordism probles.

On the ground floor the courtyard is divided into public and semipublic in order to provide residents with security while embracing the larger community. This diving building is a flexible public space for the residents which promotes community interaction. The public is welcomed into the community garden through the courtyard while the residents have access to a semiprivate green space hovering above the courtyard. This resident only space overlooks the public courtyard while the public garden overlooks the residential courtyard providing unity between the general public and the residents.

GROUND FLOOR PLANS In the redesigned units residents maintain the same amount of privately owned space however a portion of that space was moved outside the threshold making it semipublic. This promotes communication and interaction between residents because of the visual access they have to neighboring units. The columns provide a physical barrier without restricting auditory or visual connection between the exterior spaces. Sliding doors also provide a way for residents to change the configuration of the exterior spaces. For maximum privacy they can have their own section enclosed but if the partitions are open residents can walk freely into each other’s spaces.

The affordability is also an important aspect of the success of Via verde. Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s a product of 2 competition, and gained public concern and assistant by the competition. It got fund from social and private sources to support its affordability. There are income limits to the eligibility of the building. 68% of the units are for rent and 32% units are for co-op. The mix income give Via Verde new definition to the community .

ART ATMOSPHERE
CONTEMPORARY ART LIBRARY
The project locates on the Queen Street in the downtown Toronto, a busy place with a good art atmosphere. There are numerous galleries in the neighborhood. The library provides people a chance to undergraduate the contemporary art and the development of it.
STRUCTURE
The overall structure is whirly, but each storey is different. The interleaving platforms could enlarge the visual space and build more interactive spaces between floors. The platforms are designed around a grand hollowed book wall. The outside of the wall displays books arranged chronological and the inside of it provided a dark, cool space perfect for store archives. On the other side of the wall displays books as well, and provides a reading space next to a large glazing, which could see the beautiful view of the park next to the site.

CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER The books are arranged chronologically. The top floor places books about ancient art, and second floor exhibits latest art book. There is a gallery on the ground floor, which means the art we are enjoying now. And there is an art studio in the basement, which means the art of future, or the art which is producing.

Ontario Place has been reimagined in a new way, and in this project, the ideas about water education, Lake Ontario and its aquatic ecosystems have been explored. In order to gain a deeper understanding of the lake, we have modified the edge conditions of the Islands to create stronger programs in order for people to learn about Lake Ontario through their bodies. This is achieved by designing several pools that cantilever over the water, or in close proximity to the lake water, and this relationship varies from edge to edge. The goal was to enable humans to bathe and swim next to the fish and other aquatic wildlife that is present in the lake. Aquatic Habitat Torontoâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s primary efforts involve improving the aquatic habitats on the Toronto Waterfront. In addition, many key organizations such as Fisheries & Oceans Canada and the Ministry of Natural Resources play an important role in Toronto Waterfront Aquatic Habitat Restoration Strategy (TWAHRS).

ZEN BRIDGE Course: Digital Fabrication Time: December 2016 Cooperator: Shivangy Sundarajan
MODEL PICTURES As a continuation to Project 1, to the Sri Sri Radha Shyamsundar Temple that Shivangy designed, and the bridge that Tong designed, we decided to combine both our ideas into Project 2. Therefore, for Project 2 we have chosen to design a bridge that spans over a region of the Yamuna River, that offers stellar and breathtaking views of Northern India. From afar, the Taj Mahal, monumental temples, and a beautiful Indian landscape can be viewed from the bridge. We combine our interests and develop a bridge for Project 2. So, we decided to continue with the same site, and concept of taking in breathtaking views, but instead preferred to design a beautiful bridge.
MODEL PICTURES We relied on Rhino to lay down the massing of the bridge within the river, and then decided to use grasshopper to prepare the laser cutting files to be used for fabricating the model. We implemented the methods of slicing for the site. From Project 1, we each implemented techniques of slicing and waffling respectively, through the use of grasshopper. Therefore, in Project 2, we further developed these skills and relied on grasshopper even more to fabricate the model of the bridge. In conclusion, the Yamuna Bridge is a pedestrian bridge with some of the best vantage points to view some of Indiaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s most beautiful monuments. endunt amendit, conecum volupit abo. RENDERING AND PROCESS As you can see in the series of screenshots that we have gathered from Rhino of our massing model, we have gone from a digital 3D model to computation in grasshopper. In grasshopper, we tried to analyze and decompose the 3D model into components that we could physically assemble and put together. Slicing the model seemed to be the most efficient way to generate laser cutting files to fabricate the bridge, so we went ahead and did that. The two images in the far right show the decomposed elements that would be used to fabricate the canopy or roof element of the bridge. The image on left-hand side in the bottom, shows the full 3D model with all the components.
SKETCHES As you will see on the this page, the bridge has a very curved form, and takes inspiration from many bridges done by Zaha Hadid. By designing some of the bridgeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s form with curves, such as the roof structure, and main support we felt that we could incorporate some Indian forms/motifs into the bridge.

RENDERINGS I went to a construction site in China years ago and I was quite impressed by the rough condition the workers faced everyday. Workers had to live together and share a room which was merely 200 square feet with 4 or 5 people. They normally sleep on bund beds and had to get used to the dark, messy environment. Females often were the wives of the workers, but they could not have the privacy due to poverty, and should tolerate the awkward time with other strange. Some even faced sexual harassment from other single workers. As workers, their contributions to the development of China have been confirmed. However, nobody cares about their harsh condition in daily life.

The project is design for an artist who need a place for both working and living. The site locates on a hill with gentle slope and faces the Grand River, Cambridge. It’s a really great natural environment. In order to protect the tranquility and beauty. So the main idea of the house is the harmony between architecture and nature.

Using the stacking block to maintain the volumes’ continuity and consistency, the overall shape of the house fits the curve of the topography, which made the volume merge itself with the natural environment. For the façade, the natural material wood is the best choice. There are courtyards arranged in the blank space between volumes, which provides communication between natural and people.
REVIT MODELING PROCESS I learned revit in winter 2017. This is one of my practice of my house project. The design was finished at that time and I have plans as the base of the modeling. It took me about 3 hours to build this house. And it is easy using wall, ceiling, windows as construction component. It is fast and efficient.
