5TH ANNUAL

7 PM CST CLOSEOUT BIDDING ON DLMS FARM GATE CATTLE VIEWING ON FARM | FISHER BRANCH, MB
Welcome
Welcome
It’s hard to believe that 2024 already marks our fifth year running our own production sale. This sale has appeared a little different each year as we have been trying to find our groove. We went from selling with sale partners and a management team, to selling without management, then onto selling solo. That third year when we tackled the sale ourselves was the most nerve wracking, just because we weren’t sure if we had the numbers to attract enough interest without our sale partners. Each year has proven to be it’s own little success, thankfully, which has allowed us to keep growing. We are ever so grateful for our customers who have supported us over the years, many of which have become cherished repeat customers and friends. Now here we are, in our fifth year. On November 8, we are excited to be selling our biggest and deepest offering to-date!
Despite the changes over the years, the one thing that has remained the same is our goal behind this sale:
To present our cattle in an honest, ethical and realistic way so our customers trust that what you see is what you get
The majority of the females that sell through this sale are sold sight-unseen, therefore we do not accentuate our females with fancy clip jobs and blown out hair. A good clip job can really transform the appearance of an animal, and knowing that most of our customers won’t see their purchase until after the sale, we choose to present our offering as naturally as possible. We do not push the feed into the heifers to plump them up and make them look like more than they really are. Instead, we keep the extent to which we present them dialed back to more real world standards. That is why we enjoy doing our own thing in this online production sale rather than selling our cattle in a consignment sale. We like to avoid the “feeding competition” that inevitably happens with those multi-consignor sales. A few years ago at Agribition, I was talking with a very reputable breeder about his sale cattle and got on the topic of how they are fed in comparison to his own. His comment was “oh, we don’t like to feed our replacements the way we feed our sale heifers”. That comment has stuck in my mind over the years. I’ve never understood why you’d want to feed the cattle you sell in a way that you wouldn’t trust with the heifers you keep.
That mindset applies to both our open heifers and bred females on offer. We realize that the breds will need to lay down and calve in a matter of two to three months from sale day, so getting them over fat now would do no one any favours. The breds on offer were on native pasture all summer until October 6, at which time we moved them home to mix with the open heifers, preg check and get them clipped. At this time they were introduced to alfalfa grass haylage, native grass hay and a texturized ration. By video day, the breds had only been on feed for two weeks.
The heifer calves were weaned on September 6. We gave them two weeks to settle in to life without mom, and adapt to their new diet and bunk feeding routine. At that time, I made my final picks for the sale and we sorted them off of our replacement heifers. They are being fed a very similar diet to our own replacement heifers and are in ideal body condition.
We were blessed with one heck of a set of heifer calves in 2024, so the 12 opens on offer are deep in quality from end to end. On the bred heifer side of the offering, this
is our largest set of breds that we have ever sold. We are officially over the 200 head mark with our herd, and frankly, we’re not so sure we want to calve out that many with just Dustin and I (and a toddler) running the show! Hence why I dug a littler deeper into the bred heifer group this year. Perhaps we have finally broken the ice for future sales and maybe you’ll see a bigger bred heifer offering continue going forward.
In terms of frozen genetics, we have a little bit of everything and for every budget. Embryo matings that are proven, or exclusive, new and fresh. A flush opportunity, which we have never offered before. Then let’s not forget, we are also opening the vault with our biggest offering of Mandate semen since we acquired him for $160,000 two years ago.
Finally, the grand finale for this year’s sale is something that we have been working quietly on for the last number of years. Those who know us best know that we utilize guardian donkeys to keep our cattle safe from predators during pasture season and we have developed a small donkey breeding program. Into the future, we intend to offer one or two donkeys in our production sale each fall, and depending on their individual characteristics, they may be useful as guardian donkeys or as halter breaking donkeys. This year’s “donk” on offer is a sweet little halter breaking donkey that I will be sad to see go!
We hope that you enjoy looking through our offering and can find that special new female or genetic opportunity to advance your program. We want you to know that we are confident in the quality we are selling. We have scruitinized the offering from the ground up and we stand behind them. We would love for you to come to the farm ahead of sale day to check out the heifers and our donor cows in the flesh. We are certain that you’ll be impressed with what you see and it will be worth the trip! If you can’t find the time to come see the offering in-person, don’t hesitate to reach out to me and we can talk through the offering. I would really enjoy getting to chat with you and helping to guide you through making some selections. At the end of the day, honesty and integrity are our main driver always and we just want happy customers who enjoy our cattle as much as we do.
We like to breed good cattle. We like working with good people. We take pride in doing good business.
Cheers, Jennilee

Never before have we offered the opportunity to flush one of our donors. Lass is a beautiful, young cow with an impeccable udder and a lot of future ahead of her. Her first natural calf for us was a Walk The Line son that was popular in our bull sale this March. Several ET progeny were born here this year from her first two flushes; the bulls and heifers look equally good. We held Lass open and flushed her a few times last year then rebred her to Black Gold Preacher for an early January calf. Across five flushes last year, she gave a high of 12 and averaged 7 freezable embryos. We have not sold any embryos from Lass to-date.
Selling the right to flush to the bull of buyer’s choice. We will guarantee a minimum of 6 freezable embryos with an open top. All flush, semen and shipping costs are to be paid by the buyer. Flush will take place on farm with our trusted ET vet, Dr. David Hamilton (Embryo Genetics Ltd.), and can take place in April, May or June 2025, or next fall after weaning. Embryos can be made exportable to the US or AUS. To sweeten the opportunity, we will give the buyer the option to access our semen inventory of exclusive sires including the $210,000 Tangleflags, $160,000 Mandate or the $42,000 Black Gold Preacher.
RAINBOW RIVER LASS 115M
Check out this dark cherry red sweetheart! One of the traits that we love most about Lass 84H is her dark red colour. It’s hard to find, and even harder to find one that breeds it on, but Lass has been doing a pretty good job of sticking the dark colour onto her calves. 115M was born in our second set of ET calves, which means she is one of the youngest calves born in 2024. Her age means nothing though when you consider her performance and how she’s keeping pace with her older contemporaries. When you look at her dam and her pedigree I think it’s easy to envision what she’s going to mature into and the quality of maternal characteristics that she should have in her future. I’m retaining two flush sisters to build on and I’m expecting good things from them.

I don’t really know what got into me when I added this heifer into the sale. She was on my untouchables list since the day I put the straw of semen into her dam! She exhibits all of her dam’s best traits, with that cookie cutter stamp that Sprinkles puts on her progeny. As Taylor Richards said a few years ago, “not many donors can stamp them as consistently as Sprinkles does”. After six calf crops and many ET calves later, I can confidently agree with his comment. To see the dam of this heifer in the flesh is to love her. If you’re like me and your eyes start analyzing from the ground up, the first thing you’ll love his how extremely good footed Sprinkles is. She has passed that tremendous foot quality onto every one of ther offspring to date, and the udder quality and easy doing ability in her daughters has been excellent. 5M resembles her beautiful dam in every way . She’s pretty, soft made and has lots of width and capacity. She’s got a hair coat that is fun to clip on and a sweetheart disposition. I’d expect her udder to be very good. Only because her dam is open and currently being flushed does this heifer escape my grasp. I’ll flush her dam to make more of her kind to build off of, so here is your opportunity to add a Sprinkles to your program. Take this one to the show ring, let a junior have some fun with her, or just turn her into a cow, either way you can’t go wrong!
RAINBOW RIVER SPRINKLES 49H
RAINBOW RIVER SAGE 36L
49H sold in our first Online Production Sale to our friends in Australia at Valley Creek Simmentals. We have flushed 49H a few times for Stu and Sam and she is a big number embryo producer. They have ET progeny born from her in AUS now and I have kept 49H in production over the years. She raised one of my favorite red bulls this year. Life is full of changes and Stu and Sam have announced the reduction of their entire bred cow herd at the beginning of December. With that comes the decision to let 49H go as well. This young cow has a picture perfect udder, is very docile and her foot shape is excellent. Unfortunately we had some trouble with a poor mineral program last year and 49H got a couple cracks in her front outer toes. She’s not lame at all, but if you’d be willing to get those cracks cleaned up she’d be as good as new again. 49H has many productive years left in her. CONSIGNED BY: VALLEY CREEK SIMMENTALS, AUS
AI bred to LLW Card True North G71 on March 27/24. Preg tested safe on Oct 8/24.
This heifer presents a rare opportunity to acquire a direct daughter of RF Impact 601C, the best all around bull we’ve ever had the privilege to use. I can count on one hand how many daughters I’ve let go from him. The Impacts are strong footed, moderate in frame, tanky, soft made and easy doing. They have all had very good udders. I have many Impact daughters in production. They pass on their short gestation and therefore can handle being bred to some power. 36L holds true to all of those typical Impact traits and comes from one of the highest regarded cow families in Simmental history. I really like the WTW x Impact cross. It has produced the right kind consistently. Her dam just cranked out another awesome heifer in her second year in production, which is why I have decided to offer 36L. She is bred early and has those big, fluffy ears that you can’t help but fall in love with!
These flush sisters come to you from one of our young donors that traces back to the great WFL Red Sage 506C. Their granddam is the dam of Lot 7, she is a full sister to Betts and is also a donor in our program. The dam of these heifers brings in some different blood being sired by the highly exclusive American bull STF Crimson Tide. Sage 11H is a big framed, long bodied, powerful cow with an excellent udder that milks well. She has been special since the day she was born. I knew early in her life that she would be destined for our donor pen. We had two sets of ET calves born from her this year; from Walk The Line and Tycoon. Plus, Sage 11H raised a really good WTL bull calf this year that weaned off as one of our heavy weights. Our most impressive red bull is also one of her ET sons by WTL. She has really put her stamp on both sets of calves - that prepotency is so valuable. 46M has always been a stand out with her dark red colour and presence. She has a big, solid foot under her already. I’ve been trying to collect these dark red females so letting one like 46M go is hard to do! Lot 5, 72M, was probably even more popular on summer tours. Her softness and natural dimension combined with some extra presence have made her an eye catcher. Tycoon daughters make nice cows with excellent udders and milking ability.

This heifer was not supposed to sell. Only when we had to pull one bred from the sale and my hand was forced to keep our number of bred heifers up, did we go back to the pasture and bring 49L home. I sold her maternal sister to Crooked Creek Farms last fall, thinking I was going to keep 49L in-herd. I guess lucky for me, her dam gave me another heifer and a full sister to 49L this year, making it a little easier to let her go. She is very sound and correct with a beautiful little udder dropping, so quiet and easy to handle, and very feminine. Her dam, 44G, is one of three full sisters to Betts that I have in production. 44G is my favorite of the three due to her type and kind. She has big, square perfect feet, a great udder and is so deep, tanky and soft made. 44G is my kind of cow and one that is worthy of entering our donor program. 49L has a lot to offer with her pedigree stacking up breed greats, a beautiful phenotype and her early service to Top Tier. A red baldy heifer is what I’ve been hoping for!

Lot 7 is a full sib in blood to Lot 6. Their dams are both full sisters to SVS Betts, and the dam of this heifer, Sage 37F, has been flushed in our donor program. Her natural calf by Mandate sold last fall in the Keystone Konnection Sale to LaBatte Simmentals as one of the high sellers of the sale. 37F is a power cow that has put many sons through our bull sale and has two daughters in production, one of which is also a donor and is the dam of Lots 4 and 5. The other daughter is a young, two year old Can-Am daughter that is gorgeous and looks to have a bright future ahead. We sold a trio of flush brothers to 71L in our bull sale this spring - they were very well received. I also have one flush sister that I am retaining in-herd. 71L is the biggest, most powerful bred on offer. She was actually orphaned last summer at the very beginning of August, but still fared well on her own until we weaned in September. She will be a power cow like her mother and is bold sprung with extra capacity through her middle third. Her udder development is looking as good as expected, but my favourite part about this heifer is her big, square feet. All of the heifers on offer are very good footed, but this one is definitely the best at the ground. Big foot, good heel, square toes; the way a foot is supposed to be.

I purchased 42M from the R Plus Dispersal as a frozen embryo. Imagine my surprise when her recip dam laid down and popped out a set of twin heifers due to the embryo cleaving after implanting! It was a happy day for me! 42M entered this world looking flat out awesome. Stout topped, deep and thick and with her cool red baldy face. It took me all summer to decide if I wanted to hang onto both heifers or let one go. There is a lot of performance packed into this heifer despite her calving ease pedigree and EPDs. She intrigues me knowing that her maternal sister sold for a whopping $130,000 at the R Plus Dispersal and her maternal brother is the $150,000 Yuma, who is the sire of our very own $160,000 R Plus Mandate herd sire. I had seen 3007A in the flesh a few years before Marlin’s dispersal and she was a good footed, bid bodied, tank of a cow. I can certainly see her stamp on 42M and her twin sister. To let this heifer go is me digging deep to offer our best. Lots of potential here!

The dam of this heifer has been a very reliable cow. She simply does not age. Classy 5C looks as youthful today as she did 7 years ago, still with a show quality udder beneath her at 9 years of age. Her only two sons born to date were both high sellers in our annual bull sale. I have sold two beautiful Riddler daughters from 5C over the years, one to Swanz Ranch, MT and the other to Crooked Creek Farms. I had some misfortune with Classy’s last daughter, so I was banking on keeping 22M to continue the cow family. However, 22M gained some popularity over the summer, so I very reluncantly decided to let her go. I did breed 5C back to Walk The Line for her 2025 calf, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a full sister! We’ve been switching things up with our donor program over the last couple years, starting to flush more of our own top producing cows. Classy is very much deserving of being flushed. To be honest, the only reason I haven’t flushed her yet is because she is hetero polled, but I’ll admit that’s a pretty poor reason to not flush one of your best females! 22M is what her picture and video shows. She is moderate in frame and correct in her build. She is a curve bender with some decent performance in a calving ease package. Her pedigree says she should make a beautiful cow! Her homo polled test is still pending but the results should be in before sale day. If I had to guess based on the shape of her poll, I’d predict that she’s homo polled.

Our tanks are literally full and I need to make some room! These embryos will be priced to sell with starting bids well under $500.
Reeba is our most under rated donor due to her lighter colour, but she out produces most cows in our herd and is still going strong at almost 9 years old. She is a bull producer! Pick from the three matings with black sires or go for the proven, high ROI mating with Captain Scream. If you’re getting started with ET work, are looking to raise your own herd bulls, or just want some really good calves, this is a great opportunity.
I have a flush sister to 104L in production that stands at the top of my two year old group. She raised a very nice Shamrock heifer this year and has excellent feet. The Captain Scream x Reeba cross really works well time after time. These Captain Scream cattle are very docile and 104L is no different. She is very laid back and easy to handle. 104L was always a stand out as a calf and still is with her softness and depth of body. I really can’t say enough good about Reeba 41D; she’s been a great cow in every way. She is an easy keeping tank and always puts extra thickness and power into her progeny. 104L comes by her capacity honestly. The calf inside 104L could be interesting. She is bred to our feature bull from this spring who garnered a lot of breeder interest. He is an Impact x WTW x WFL Red Sage 506C bull. A quick ROI might be waiting for you.
RAINBOW RIVER REEBA 104L
Observed
25L is Reeba’s natural calf from last year. Check out that September WW of almost 900 lbs! That’s Reeba for you. She milks well and knows how to raise them. 25L is a good sized bred and is part of our first set of Mandate daughters that are about to enter production. I’m very eager to see how they’ll do as momma cows. Like all of our Mandate offspring, 25L is very docile and easy to handle. Her mating to the hetero black Impact 4L bull could be interesting. He is a very soggy made bull that offers a lot of natural shape in a big time calving ease package. We were fortunate to get to use him for clean up this year. Red or black, that calf could have some potential.

16L is the second of only two Mandate breds that we are selling this fall. We dug deep and sold a lot of Mandate daughters as open heifers in last year’s sale, so we really want to hang onto as many Mandate breds as possible in order to get a feel for how they’ll be once they enter production. So far their udder development looks good. 16L is very docile, which she has inherited from both Mandate and her dam. 11D is a moderate framed, big bodied tank that maintains body condition very well. She put a feature Riddler daughter through this sale a few years ago. The Storm cow family has been strong for us, anchored by 16L’s granddam who is a 56U daughter and was flushed for the first time this year. 20B has a son working for Todd Simmentals in Quebec. 16L offers a little extra calving ease with a more outcross pedigree and should mature to look much like her dam.
Here’s the first of two Mandate open heifers in this year’s sale. She is powerful, soft made like her dam, and exhibits her dam’s bold sweeping rib cage and extra shape. 28F is one of the most visually appealing cows in our herd as she carries so much natural base width and dimension. 28F has perfect feet as well. A maternal sister to 11M raised our best black bull this year. She’s only a first calf heifer but she has really set the bar high for her capabilities in production. The granddam of this heifer, Beauty 33U, was a powerful cow that produced very well. She left me two very good daughters before we had to put her down due to a spinal injury. 33U’s first daughter, which is a year older than 28F, is a very good Spark Plug cow that is also working here. Our most impressive bred heifer this year is her daughter. There’s lots to be said about the productivity in this cow family.

Like Lots 2B and 9, here is another one of my untouchables! I sold her full sister in this sale last year. 35L was our high selling heifer going to Cossette Simmentals in Quebec. I had 127C bred back to Mandate and was hoping for another heifer to replace 35L. I got what I hoped for with 13M and she has been at the top of my heifer group all year. When I got the sort done on the heifer calves for this sale, I noticed that I didn’t have any Mandate heifers in the pen. I wanted to show the industry how nice his daughters are, so I went back into my keeper pen and pulled out 13M and Lot 14. I purchased Amanda 127C in a private treaty deal a few years ago. When touring the pastures at Spring Creek that summer, she stood out in the bull pasture and I fell in love with her. She was already a proven donor and I bought her with intentions to flush her as well. Her Fireball daughter that came in-dam has been producing extremely well, having raised one of our best bulls last year and one of my top Caliber heifers this year. 127C will finally get flushed this spring and I plan to hold her open to build an embryo inventory for future years. She is a beautiful cow with extremely good feet and udder, very docile and feminine. We finally took an updated photo of her this summer at 9 years of age. Much like her dam, 13M is a feminine, wedge shaped heifer with strong feet and extra length. I can already see that maternal look in her. I think she’s going to end up being pretty special.

Clair 31G was purchased as the high selling black bred from Simmsational in 2020. Geoff Anderson, who worked for Bohrson at the time, helped me get her bought and he commented that she was his pick of the sale. Geoff is an awfully good cattleman so those were some strong words of endorsement. Her pedigree is loaded with maternal greats with 56U, Temptation and MRL 836W. I like the shot of El TIgre in her pedigree, as he was a bull who Barry used heavily for years. Clair is a big capacity cow with excellent feet and udder. She has put two good sons through our bull sales and I sold a feature daughter from her to MSE Land and Cattle Co. last fall. Her 2023 son by Mandate was special from the moment he was born. He sold as Lot 1 to Lawnview Simmentals this spring. He was one of the soundest, most structurally correct and attractive bulls we’ve ever raised.
Playmate was one of the feature heifers and high sellers in the IRCC Quality Control sale the year we bought her. We partnered with our friends from Valley Creek Simmentals in Australia with intentions to enter Playmate into our ET programs and export embryos to AUS. Fast forward a few years and Playmate now has progeny in three countries, since her first natural calf sold through this sale in 2022 to Kaelberer Simmental Ranch in North Dakota. Stu and Sam have a pretty good full brother to these embryos in their bull pen right now. My tanks are maxed out and I need to make space so I have decided to price some embryos to sell. Like lot 12, this is another opportunity to get some very affordable embryos and maybe a big ROI. Bidding will start well under $500.

9144G is a moderate framed, deep ribbed, big capacity cow with very good feet. Her depth of heel is a noteable trait. Her dam was a long bodied, black baldy cow who lived a long, productive life in the R Plus herd. 9144G comes from the same cow family as the black baldy 5015C heifer calf that sold for $46,000 in the R Plus Dispersal. Her first calf was a good Sochi son who we sold to Triangle Stock Farm in our annual bull sale, then bought back a couple years later. We have two strong ET sons in our bull pen this year that are full sibs to these embryos. They both have blaze faces and the one bull could easily wear a halter to compete in a show ring. The bulls from this mating are proven to be good but I still think the heifers will be the most exciting.

RAINBOW RIVER SABRINA 29M
RAINBOW RIVER SABRINA 49M
In my quest to make females, I decided to flush Sabrina to Boomshakalaka. He needs no introduction if you’ve been following the Indian River program over the years. Other than Liner 56U, I’m not sure that there is another seasoned bull that consistently makes such beautiful females. After I did the flush, I found out that Boom can throw extra chrome. It was a split flush with IPU Bentley, so when the splashed up calves were born, I was pretty certain that I knew which sire they were from! The extra chrome takes nothing away from how good these heifers are, though. I am keeping one sister for myself and I am excited about the type of cow she’s going to mature into. 29M is bold sprung through her rib and it looks like she might end up with a perfect udder. 49M is a little softer made and has a nice sweep to her lower middle third. They are dense haired and very quiet. DNA results for polled, homo black and parentage should be done by sale day.
These two heifers come from the same split flush as Lots 19 and 20, but I expect them to parentage verify to IPU Bentley. Again, I am keeping one full sister and giving you access to the other two. Bentley has made a name for himself over the last few years, siring stout, soft made cattle and daughters with nice udders. Sabrina adds the extra size to the equation. 55M is one of the biggest and highest performing heifers in our entire heifer calf crop this year. She offers the extra frame and length just like Sabrina does, but sacrifices nothing in terms of thickness and overall quality. 55M is the fancy sister and 63M is the broodier one. 63M is more moderate in size and she is stout with extra muscle expression. We have been so pleased with the dispositions and overall soundness in our Sabrina progeny to date. These heifers are all sweethearts and would make fun 4-H projects for juniors. DNA results for homo black and parentage should be done by sale day.

I purchased Marlee for $26,000 as a heifer calf from the Meadow Acres Dispersal. Despite the money I invested in her, I still insisted on turning her into a cow before flushing her, so I bred her to Impact for her first calf then held her open to flush after she proved her worth as a momma cow. That heifer she raised in her first year, Marlee 78L, is the most impressive Impact daughter ever born here. Marlee’s maternal instincts are truly impressive at calving. She is extremely docile and easy to handle, and has big, excellent feet. Her dark red colour is something to appreciate, as is the strength of the cow family backing her. Marlee is a third generation donor and a direct daughter out of the rare and now deceased Tycoon. Stacking up Liner 56U and Brooke through Launch onto a Tycoon x Venom female should result in some highly maternal offspring. We have several ET calves expected from Marlee in January, I’m looking forward to them!

SEMEN IS STORED AT BOW
Mandate’s semen has been held highly exclusive for the last two years. I promised my syndicate partners that his semen would never be sold on the open market, and that is still the plan. However, we are intending to crack open the vault a little bit wider this fall and offer 100 doses of semen for the very first time. If you don’t have plans to use the semen this fall, it can stay in my inventory until spring if you wish, to save you storage fees. I have been using Mandate on power cows and first calf heifers with great success. His EPDs for CE and BW are improving with each calf crop and in my experience, he is much more heifer safe than his current numbers suggest. The Mandate’s are like fine wine. They just keep getting better and better with age. The bred heifers here have continued to evolve over summer and have a really broody, cowy look to them now. His bull calves all had large SC and tested extremely well for us this spring. If you’re wanting to break free from mainstream and get some different blood into your breeding program, here is your chance.
HALTER BREAKING DONKEY “TINA”
DONKEY
Tina is a very sweet little 5 year old standard Jenny. She came to me in the spring of 2022 tie broke and with some halter breaking experience, but otherwise fairly unhandled. She was very shy initially, but has come a long way over the last two years. We have developed a bond, to the point where she will now beg for attention (she loves getting her rump scratched). A gentle hand goes a long way with Tina. Once you earn her trust, she’ll be in your pocket. She is easy to catch in a small pen, leads, ties and stands very well for a farrier. She has very good feet. She will be due to see the farrier by the end of November/ beginning of December. Her gentle nature makes her a good halter breaking donkey, but she is not a good guardian. Tina has raised me two beautiful babies and is still nursing this year’s baby. She will be weaned sometime in the second half of November and then she will be ready to go to her new owner. She was not exposed to a Jack this year. I’ll be sad to see Tina go but it’s time for someone to put her to work!

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE WHY WE CHOOSE FARM GATE
1.Visit dlms.ca and follow the link to the DLMS FarmGate timed auction site www.farmgatetimedauctions.ca, click the LOGIN/ REGISTRATION button. First time users will select the REGISTER button from this page. Fill out the registration form to signup for a free user account. This program will send you text and email messages whenever there is activity on your favourite lots or someone challenges your proxy bid, and this is why you will be asked for both your current email and cell phone number. If you are a past participant in the Farm Gate Timed auctions, simply enter your user name and password to continue. This takes you to a list of both current and upcoming Farm Gate Auctions.
2. You can choose your favourite lots in this sale and the program will allow you to open either all sale lots or just your favourite lots on your screen. Any time there is active bidding on a lot you have identified on your favourite list, you will get a text and/or an email noting this activity.
3. The program allows you to place a proxy bid on any sale lot. This protects your interest in any lot of interest for you to a specified dollar value you set, when you may not be able to give 100% attention to the sale. For example, if the lot has a $2000 bid on it and you place a proxy bid of $3500 into the system, the computer will bid $2100 for you. But if some one else bids $2200, the computer will again bid for you, this time at $2300. The system will look after your interest to a maximum of $3500. If another bidder is on at $3600, your proxy will no longer be effective and you will no longer have the winning bid on this lot without once again logging in and manually bidding again, or moving your attention to a second lot of interest.
4. At closing time of the sale, the entire sale will extend bidding if a bid is placed on any lot in the sale. Any bid received after close time will extend the sale by the time listed on each sale. In most cases, the time gets shorter the longer in to extended bidding the sale is. When no bidding occurs for the extended time, the computer will declare the sale finished.
5. Following the sale, the Owner or Sale Manager will invoice all buyers in the sale. Please contact the seller with questions or to arrange delivery, pick up or shipping of your purchases.
For more info and assistance with bidding contact any of the sale contacts listed on the DLMS website.
FAQ:
WHAT IS RACEHORSE STYLE SALE CLOSE?
Racehorse style sale close is when the entire sale stays open in extended bidding. This type of sale allows you as the bidder to either continue bidding on one or more specific lots, or change to a different lot within the same sale if the bidding has gone in to extended bidding.
HOW WILL EXTENDED BIDDING WORK?
When we get to the close out end time, the clock for close extends by 5 minutes with any bid placed on any lot in the sale within that 5 minute window. This type of extended bidding turns the end time into more of a soft close. Extended bidding allows bidders to compete in lots like a real auction and gives all bidders the same time to make a decision. If you get outbid on your first lot of interest during extended bidding, you can switch to bid on your second lot of interest if desired. Always follow the countdown clock to see how much time remains in the sale you are interested in.
As our sale has grown in size over the years, we have contemplated different sale formats such as sticking with the Farm Gate Timed Auction, or switching to a live sale. After weighing our options, we still feel that the Farm Gate sale is our preferred method of selling. Here’s our top reasons why:
1. NO SALE ORDER
The racehorse style sale allows us to eliminate that dreaded sale order that causes so much stress on sale day! We have all been in that position where our #1 pick is listed after our #2 pick in the sale order. Decisions... decisions... do I risk not bidding on my #2 in order to wait to try on #1? We’ve all done it, and when our #1 choice goes way out of budget, we are kicking ourselves for not just buying #2 when we had the chance!
With Farm Gate, all lots sell at the same time and you have the flexibilty to start bidding on your favorite lot, then switch to your #2 pick (or your #3, or #4, etc) if your #1 pick goes out of budget. This gives all of our customers the best chance at owning the right female or genetic opportunity for their program.
2. MORE ONE-ON-ONE INTERACTION
When I first started selling bulls, I sold via private treaty from our yard. My favorite part about private treaty sales was getting to know my customers on a more personal level. Learning about your program and individual preference in cattle in turn builds a closer relationship between the customer and myself, and also gives me the insight to recommend females that would be best suited for your program. This is especially valuable with sight unseen purchases.
I found that when we switched to a live sale format, much of that one-on-one interaction was lost. Sale day was always such a blur and I really disliked not having enough time to talk to customers about their needs prior to the sale starting. Not all customers choose to interact directly with me prior to the sale with using Farm Gate either, and that’s perfectly ok! But I find that it does increase the amount of interaction between my customers and myself, which I really like.
3. BETTER FOR THE CATTLE
Less stress on the cattle is a major advantage of the online sale format. The heifers get to stay at home, in their environment, on familiar feed and don’t risk getting sick or injured while being moved or sorted for a live sale. Compared to live sales that take place off-farm, there is also no biosecurity risk with the cattle picking up an illness or disease that might exist at a public sale barn. Happier, healthier heifers are better for me, my cattle and my customers.
4. CUSTOMER FEEDBACK HAS BEEN POSITIVE
The old saying, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” applies here. Covid forced us to start with the online Farm Gate sale, but we have received so much positive feedback since making the switch that we want to stick with a good thing! The flexibility to come view the offering at your leisure, to bid from the comfort of your home (or while on the road, or at a meeting, a party or your kid’s hockey game) and even just the fun of the thrill when you never know if an opposing bid is going to give you that “You’ve Been Outbid” warning!
TERMS & CONDITIONS, CONT.
TERMS: The terms of the sale are cash, cheque or e-transfer payable at par with settlement to be made immediately after the completion of the sale. Settlement is to be received in full by the seller upon pick up or delivery of the purchased lot(s), or within 30 days of the invoice date, whichever is sooner, unless other arrangements have been mutually agreed upon between the buyer and seller prior to sale day. SHIPPING: Assistance will be given in arranging shipping or pickup after the sale, but no risk is assumed by the seller.
BREEDER GUARANTEE: All animals are sold under the standard terms and guarantees as set forth by the Canadian Simmental Association (CSA). The CSA Breeder Guarantee Guidelines can be found on the reverse side of any registration paper belonging to a bull or female registered with the CSA, or on the CSA website at www.simmental.com. At no time will the seller’s liability exceed the purchase price of the animal.
EXCEPTION TO BREEDER GUARANTEE: This guarantee does not cover death, injury, sickness or mismanagement. No guarantee is given that a bull’s semen will freeze. In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques (i.e. embryo transfer) after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void. Animals cannot be returned to Rainbow River Simmentals if not in a sound, healthy condition.
HEALTH: All animals have been on a total herd health program since birth. Specific details are available upon request. It is the buyer’s responsibility to determine health requirements for importing any animal into their province or state.

LIABILITIES: All persons attending the sale, or viewing cattle on-farm prior to the sale, do so at their own risk and the seller assumes no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents occurring in or about the premises.
RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS: The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and seller, and be equally binding to both.
