Rainhill Gala Treasure Hunt

Can you find the locomotives that took part in the Rainhill Trials in 1829? Look around the village and write down where you find them, hand your entry in at the information kiosk or at the Gala Hospitality Tent on Monday for a chance to win a special prize

ROCKET, built by Robert Stephenson & Co, don’t recognise this? This is the original locomotive and how it looks now

Perseverance, built John Reid and Timothy Burstall however it was damaged on the way to the trials and only competed on the sixth day however only achieved a top speed of 6mph

Sans Pareil built by Timothy Hackworth nearly completed the trials even though it was 16kg overweight however suffered from a cracked cylinder before it could complete the trials.

CYCLOPED, built by Thomas Shaw Brandreth, was the first to drop out of the competition

Instructions: Look around the search area from 19th May to Gala Day and find the 5 locomotives. Write down where you find them and bring this page to the Hospitality tent at the Gala for a small prize. Remember to ALWAYS take a grown up with you!!!
