Purpose of the Document The purpose for this document is to outline the functional specifications and requirements for Society for Gerstmann's Syndrome's website that will provide information on Gerstmann's Syndrome.

Description of the Project Goals Since there is very little information on Gerstmann's Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder, the Society for Gerstmann's Syndrome will create a website for the said disorder. The objectives of this project are: 1. To provide information and resources on Gerstmann's syndrome, 2. To create a community for patients, family and friends of patients, 3. To provide useful, timely content in a compelling, easy-to-use design Audience The target audience or users for this site are:  

Primary - Gerstmann's Syndrome patients, family and friends of patients. Secondary - medical practitioners treating Gerstmann's Syndrome patients, researchers

They will be between 18-60 years of age. They will be a novice web user who understands email and how to use a web browser. This user also accesses the Internet every day. Target users will also come from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.

Hosting Domain Name The domain name for the project is www.gerstmanns.org. Server and hosting HostPapa, a green web hosting company that uses renewable energy, will host the website. The Their high performance Linux servers will host the web site. Bandwidth and Hosting Environment:   

Unlimited bandwidth and disk space Multi-homed OC-48 and Gigabit fiber connections Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) backup

Site Map Overview This is the proposed detail site map for the Society for Gerstmann's Syndrome website. It shows how the key areas of the site fit together and how site navigation works. Main Navigation. Content that is the focus of the users' attention and drives interaction with the site. Users navigate to this content via the main navigation. Global Navigation. Content that is still important, but has less of a focus in terms of driving sales leads.

Side Bar Sliding Menu - links to specific pages according to user (patient, friend/family member, general public) Footer - same for every page: 6. Site Design Aesthetic/HTML Requirements and Guidelines The Society for Gerstmann's Syndrome must deliver a compelling website for a heightened visitor experience. Usability and accessibility should not be compromised, to be able to reach a diverse audience. The web site "look" must conform to the following requirements:         

The site should be HTML 5.0 compliant All pages (except for videos) must download in less than 10 seconds. The site must be compatible with Internet Explorer 10, Firefox 24, Chrome 30.0, Safari 6.0, and Opera 17. The site must conform to the Web Accessibility Initiative Guidelines. The site must also be accessible from mobile devices. All site pages should be accessible to search engine crawlers for good on-page search engine optimization. The Society for Gerstmann's Syndrome corporate identity colours must be used as dominant elements. The interface must be clean and demonstrate the Society's status as an up-to-date organization with broad appeal. Fonts used are Frutiger LT 87 ExtraBlack Cn (body, footer), TheSansExtraBold-Caps (logo, heading 1, heading 2, and heading 3), TheSansBold-Plain (links), TheSansExtraLight-Caps (copyright). Images used will be both stock photos and photos of the Society's member, with their permission, to demonstrate to the visitors that they will get warm, welcoming support from the Society. There will be a large slideshow on the homepage.

Project Timeline This schedule allows a phased implementation of the functionality in this specification. Budget The Society for Gerstmann's Syndrome is a non-profit organization; the budget for this project is not much. This budget will not include regular expenses to operate and maintain the site.
