Herts for Learning (HfL) recognises the importance of offering pupils a rich, broad and balanced curriculum. Getting this offer right is not easy. We aim to provide you with the latest information, new teaching tools, ideas and strategies to help you deliver a great education to your pupils. This summer we are launching our new Primary Curriculum Symposium which offers senior leaders from participating schools the opportunity to learn from leading academics, theorists, exceptional school leaders, leading classroom practitioners and subject specialists. Alongside the familiar courses and conferences you tell us are important, you will find a number of new courses. The combination of proven CPD and new education and business programmes is designed to support you in meeting the challenges of managing change in your school or academy. We continue to develop new ways for you to access our training in an affordable and convenient way. Our growing portfolio of governance e-learning courses can be accessed by mobile, PC and tablet and we are introducing webinars and remote training. This summary booklet provides you and your staff with a top level overview of HfL’s summer term opportunities. Our full programme can be found online, with additional courses and events added as we respond to demand and changes to the educational landscape. We always welcome your feedback and if you, or members of your team, have any specific requirements that you do not see in our programme, please contact us to discuss bespoke training that can be tailored to suit your needs. We look forward to welcoming you to one of our forthcoming training courses. Primary Curriculum Symposium 2019
Ensuring access to a rich, broad and balanced curriculum is at the heart of effective school provision. School leaders should rightly invest time and energy into making sure that the decisions they make are well informed, and right for their school. However, making decisions in this key area of school development can seem daunting. The Curriculum Symposium offers a safe space for school leaders to come together to engage with information from a range of professionals who have considerable expertise within this area of school development. Schools can choose from the conference programme or the extended development programme.

Conference Programme Across three conferences, delegates will gain insight from well‑respected speakers ranging from academics and theorists, practising headteachers and senior leaders, and subject and phase specialists who are able to discuss how the curriculum debates can be interpreted within their specialist’s age‑ranges and subject domains. The cost of the conference programme is £475 per delegate. Additional delegates from the same school are charged at £236 per delegate.
Extended Development Programme Schools on the extended development programme will attend an additional session at the end of each conference day, where their allocated school effectiveness adviser will guide leaders to deliberate upon the information presented in light of each school’s particular needs and contexts. This will provide a further opportunity to consider the information presented, as well as develop supportive networks with other schools. Following the conference days, participating schools will have a half‑day consultancy visit, which will allow them to continue the conversations back in their school setting, as well as consider next steps. The extended development programme will conclude with a half‑day showcase where participating schools will have the opportunity to share how they have progressed in their journey towards evaluating and developing their curriculum offer, as well as hear from colleagues on the programme who have travelled along the same learning path. The cost of the extended development programme is £1,120 per school for two delegates, which includes attendance at the three conference days, a half‑day consultancy visit and the final showcase event. It is recommended that the headteacher attend with another senior leader, or chair of govenors. Additional delegates from the same school are charged at £355 per delegate.
